Best wishes to all my Flickr friends, I wish you a new year full of love, creativity and in good health...
I want to thank you (again!) for your stimulating and creative presence... it means a lot :-)
Met 17 dogs and a Dog Hiker on the hiking trail. The dogs were so well behaved, not a single sound was made, did not get distracted or showed any curiosity of our presence.
If you look closer, the smallest dog was not on a leash. All dogs must be per park's regulation, so why wasn't he?
I really am afraid that he had slipped away from his family to follow the group. I wish I had noticed it on the spot and informed the Dog Hiker.

"Professional dog hikers are becoming increasingly popular and for good reason. Many owners are reaping the benefits of having their dogs join group hikes. While dogs benefit from high intensity exercise, small pack socialization, and mental stimulation, owners come home to a tired, happy dog."

Much appreciated for your time and support, stay safe and be healthy!

Gewone smeerwortel (Symphytum officinale)

Ordinary comfrey (Symphytum officinale)
The species designation officinale (from the pharmacy) indicates that the plant has traditionally had medical applications. Especially the carrot was collected.
The plant has been and is mainly applied externally, in the form of covers for fractures, wounds and joint infections. Research has shown that allantoin can indeed promote wound healing by stimulating new cell formation. Comfrey is not recommended for internal use due to the high dose of pyrrolizidine alkaloids. This affects the liver
Needed some colour in my gallery.
Aren't macaws just the rock stars of the parrot world? Not only do they have vibrant colors that would make a rainbow jealous, but their personalities are just as vibrant. These feathered Einsteins are known for their problem-solving abilities and can learn complex tasks. If you are thinking of getting one for a pet be warned though, they require mental stimulation to prevent boredom and destructive behavior, it could be the end of your nice furniture ;)
Happy Friday !

Smile on Saturday!:-)
Bee-eaters spend around 10% of their day on comfort activities. These include sunning themselves, dust bathing and water bathing. Sunning behaviour helps warm birds in the morning, reducing the need to use energy to raise their temperature. It also has a social aspect, as multiple birds adopt the same posture. Finally, it may help stimulate parasites in the feathers, making them easier to find and remove.
Due to their hole-nesting lifestyle, bee-eaters accumulate a number of external parasites such as mites and flies. Together with sunning, bouts of dust bathing (or water bathing where available), as well as rigorous preening, keep the feathers and skin in good health. Bathing with water involves making shallow dives into a water body and then returning to a perch to preen
Blue-and-gold macaws typically weigh about 2-2.7 pounds and are 30-34 inches long, more than half of which is the tail.
Their faces are relatively bare, white in color with sparse black feathers, and a large black beak strong enough to break open nutshells.
They have zygodactylous feet, with two toes facing forwards and two facing backwards. Each toe has a long, sharp claw at the tip. They have vibrant blue feathers
on the dorsal side of their wings and tail, with yellow on the undersides of each. They also have a patch of dark blue or black under the facial patch and a green forehead.
Macaws are particularly curious, intelligent, and social birds. They require constant stimulation, whether entertaining themselves or in the company of other birds. They
form strong bonds with their mate and flock; when these bonds are broken they exhibit signs of stress, including chewing or plucking out their own feathers. In the
wild, they live in large families or colonies called flocks. To communicate, they make very loud vocalizations, which can be heard echoing in the forests.
This one comes from my archives and was taken at Gatorland in Kissimmee, Florida.
For some reason I just absolutely love the pictures of my flowerbed this time of year especially after the snow added just a touch of winter to the mix. I don't know if it is the textures or the colors or what, I just really love the way they look together!
Have a great Tuesday everyone!

Stimulate your senses....
Nah but seriously the wedge takes a second shot at clearing the drift at Mossley as it continues it's way West to St. Thomas.
The most important source of inspiration for Dirk De Keyzer's sculptures is nothing less than life itself. The world is transformed into an alternate parallel world in which major and everyday problems are compensated. Without falling into childish naivety, positivity and cross-border thinking are given a very important place. This is all the more apparent from the fact that the characters do not seem to belong to any culture, or even to all cultures. By extension, one could say that it is a quite singular interpretation of the concept of "universal man", elevated above external characteristics, cultural differences and temporal tendencies in order to emphasize on the individual and diversity.
Humor is another important aspect of Dirk de Keyzer's art. He strongly believes that humor, as opposed to negativity, can spearhead social criticism. Disarming humor rather than chatter to stimulate perspective and tolerance. In these busy times, the work of Dirk De Keyzer calls us to reflect on the unbearable lightness of our existence. A moment of introspection to call for a small escape from everyday reality.
The sculptures are a snapshot of Dirk's alternate world and invite the amused viewer to enter the sculptor's personal universe. In this way, the spectator has the same experience while watching as the artist while creating. Dirk sees the creative process as a kind of therapy that helps him see the world from a different perspective and tries to project it onto the viewer. Despite its own unique form language, universal data such as the human pursuit of happiness, beauty and harmony are given a prominent role. In this way, the artist attempts to enter into a dialogue with his audience, in which, just as in life itself, the focus is not always on preconceived goals, but rather on the path to achieve them. to arrive at.

Everybody calls me the quiet one
But you just don't understand
You can't listen you won't hear me
With your head stuck in the sand
I ain't never had time for words that don't rhyme
My head is in a cloud
I ain't quiet - everybody else is too loud
Still waters run deep so be careful I don't drown you
You've got nothing to hear I've got nothing to say
Sticks and stones may break my bones
But names can never down you
It only takes two words to blow you away.

BLACK COFFEE – LACY J DALTON
We couldn't get in at the restaurant we wanted
we didn't think to book
so we were re-directed across the road
and found a cosy comfy nook
this poster caught my eye and so
I pointed shot and took
a little boy from olden days
who caught a big fish on a little hook
the carvery was excellent
I met and congratulated the cook
we piled our plates as high as we could
we signed our names in the visitor's book
the place was a little dark but not shabby
it had it's own style; conversation babbled like a brook
we felt relaxed and satiated and happy
as we left for the theatre for which we DID book
an amateur production of Agatha Christie's
play called Black Coffee; well worth a look
the performers were brilliant; very professional
we couldn't second-guess who was the crook
Hercule Poirot arrived looking a bit dishevelled
in a well-worn well-creased linen jacket he forsook
to press it as well as Captain Hasting's trousers
the audience laughed; our shoulders shook
the stage was set; the lights were dimmed
until the interval came and everyone took
a break for an ice-cream, fresh air and ablutions
returned for the final half of this lesser known book
I thoroughly enjoyed my dinner and visit
to the Palace Theatre as we undertook
to applaud the wonderful players of this play
sad to say goodnight as the room fell dark as a rook.

«Aesculus is a Latin name of a type of oak sacred to Jupiter cited by the Romans and therefore attributed by Linnaeus to this species, even if, as he well did know, included in a family well distinct from those of the Fagaceae. After some Authors, it should get its origin from the Latin “escare” = to eat, due to the fruits eaten by some animals (especially sheep and goats).
The name of the species hippocastanum, comes from the two Greek terms “hìppos” = horse and “kástanon” = chestnut (chestnut tree or horse chestnut) in reference to the fact that the Turks used the seeds, rich in starch, for feeding the horses suffering from broken-wind and for stimulating them.
The genus Aesculus includes, after various Authors, 20-25 species of the temperate regions of the Boreal Hemisphere, in particular Boreal America.
The original home range of the horse-chestnut is located in the south-eastern European-Illyrian region (Balkans). It was introduced in Central Europe and in Italy in 1557 by the famous Sienese botanist Matthiolus, who got its seeds from Constantinople.
Despite its vulgar name of “Indian Chestnut”, in its natural habitat (Greece, Bulgaria, Albania) it forms mixed woods with ash, alder and maple. A meticulous historical reconstruction of the researches of the pre-historic range of this enigmatic species was published in 1936 by the Prof. Antonio Baldacci edited by the Academy of Sciences of Bologna Institute “Sull’ Aesculus hippocastanum L. – A proposito di un relitto dendroide eurasiatico della flora balcanica e specialmente illirico-ellenica”.

12-February-2024
One of the mildest winters ever in southern Europe with the fixed presence of the African HP and everything still and stagnant for long periods.
A winter that is essentially very boring and sad for those who love atmospheric liveliness and winter as it was until the end of the last century.
The few fronts that have passed have left snow only in the upper parts of the Alps, while in the Apennines and Dinarides the snow is even completely absent.
This is a very serious climatic and naturalistic problem and in my small way a loss of stimulation for my passions, as can be seen from the only 5 photos posted so far during over 2/3 of this non-winter that is ending.
Among other things, 4 of these were taken in the only 2 winter days across the entire area.
In general, from past winters, although modest, but still more alive than this rubbish here, I managed to post several dozen photos, while this year I only have a couple more (of fog... the only phenomenon and hydrometeor given by the African anticyclone), while it is possible that others could arise in the next few days between the meteorological spring (late February-early March) due to a livening up of meridian exchanges and therefore greater tropospheric dynamism.
In conditions of flat calm for at least 65 of the 90 winter days, little can be photographed, including vast areas without snow and therefore barren, even in the Alps, stagnant and therefore gloomy air, graying lights...so you have to invent something to find some worthy landscape at least one shot attempt.
This is the new normal now and I can't accept it.
