Happy Fence Friday!

These are beachfront properties on the south coast of England, a few miles from Brighton. I am stood on the beach taking this photo. The owners of this property change the windsock throughout the year. When I was here in November there were two ghosts flying in the wind. I love their sense of humour…..

Thanks for visiting.

McKenzie House, 86 Talbot Street

The heritage attributes of this Neo-Classic Colonial architectural styled building include ashlar-cut pine siding, characteristic hip roof with plain eaves, side-lighted front door placed at the side of the three-bay front, six-over-six windows on the second story, and the original columned porch which wraps around the front and east sides, inset into the foundation of the building with the second story extending over the porch.

This important landmark dates from the time when the area was called Kettle Creek Village and helped define the historic character of the area.

"Everglow"is about the feeling of warmth or happiness that comes with the sadness you feel when you think about a relationship, situation, or friendship that has now ended or will do someday, but I truly believe that the seeds of love, hope and peace we plant in this world will follow us into the next and the end is not the end, but the beginning of something new; something beautiful and when we look back, we will see that what we have sown we will reap … “ - excerpt from a short story, “Goodbye to H” - AP

Dedicated to my dear friend, Julie who brought me back … you and your Mum are in my thoughts and prayers xx

EVERGLOW - COLDPLAY

The closer we look the more we find

each precious drop; a diamond from Heaven

each tiny thorn; a poignant reminder

that all have a purpose in this world of ours

sitting in my enchanted garden

a snail coiled beautifully next to me

his iridescent glowing colours

a reminder of life's constancy

overhead the wind blows softly

the pink quince flowers on the bowers

softly blushing against the blue

clear skies always a kind reminder

that Heaven is near and all around you

each step we take a subtleness settles

on gentle shoulders filled with love

your countenance like the beautiful flowers

you photograph; bring peace like a morning dove

no need to thank me for my words

it is I who should be thanking you

and I do my friend with all my heart

for it is your words that brought me back and through

you see the darkness had descended on me

a betrayal by a very close friend

and I could only find words of sadness

but you changed all that; with the words you sent

so here I am in my Heavenly garden

writing these words that you deserve

and praying for you and your dear beloved

mother who brought an angel here to earth

each day is a miracle; each moment a blessing

and no-one knows how our stories end

but while we are here, we should be kind and loving

just like you my sweet, caring friend

I suffered betrayal at the hands of another

but I won't lose hope; I keep open my heart

for an end is not the end of our story

we go on; we live; we love; we start

right back at the beginning

when innocence was bliss

like the first Spring flower on a misty morning

and the sweetness of our very first kiss

our journey in this life may draw to a close

but the suffering we learned from

like the very first rose

we overcame and we blossomed

we gave it our all

and this day hope resurfaced

and we didn't fall.

I've only been down to the edge of Crater Lake once, but it was an unforgettable experience. This was taken with my Zero Image 2000 pinhole camera, a couple of years ago. I've forgotten the exactly month and year... these memories of Oregon are becoming so plentiful that they tend to run together.

"Jewish House" of València

This building known as "La Casa Judía" (The Jewish House) was commissioned by its owner José Salom who is thought to have been of Jewish origin. This may explain why there is a Magen David above the doorway.

It was built in 1930 by valencian architect Juan Guardiola Martínez who also designed an Indian inspired Art Deco building in his native town of Sueca (south of València City) known as "Ateneo Sueco del Socorro" and a Chinese inspired Art Deco building in Barcelona known as "La Casa China" (The Chinese House).

Unfortunately, you can only admire this building from the outside as it is private property but you just can’t help letting your imagination run wild with all the other extravagant and over the top features it must be hiding on the inside.

Japanese Itoh hybrid peonies (intersectional peonies) are a cross between tree and herbaceous peonies, offering the best traits of both: large, 8-inch, long-lasting flowers (yellows, reds, pinks, corals) on strong, 3-foot shrubby stems that don't need staking. They are extremely cold-hardy, disease-resistant, and bloom for 3–4 weeks.

Coral Sunset Intersectional Itoh Peony .

A sunset in a flower! Aptly named for its awe-inspiring transformation from a radiant, vivid coral through a range of peaches, and finally, a creamy white colour, the flower is a masterpiece at every step of this sunset, and one might argue a bloom only improves with age. Unique from other coral varieties in that it opens with the most intense coral colour and has petals that are more ruffled, which perhaps contribute to a fuller appearance. Has a lower, more compact growing habit than Coral Charm. Mass plantings are recommended as flowers at different colour stages provide a visual riot in the landscape.

Side buds are possible, extending the bloom period. A favourite of the peony garden, this outstanding peony produces intense sunset coral, semi-double blossoms with rose overtones and a fluffy deep yellow stamens in the center. The lightly fragrant flowers are long lasting in fresh bouquets. ‘Coral Sunset’ blooms early in the peony season, around late spring in Ontario It is highly prized for its exemplary plant habit. and by florist as cut flower in bouquets.

At long last, made it to this infamous location on the NC500 route with that red roof - simply a matter of driving around the road far enough, something I've never done before. I would like to think that the owner of this property is having a bit of a laugh at all the tourists wanting its photograph and he has attached a ladder to the roof!

We couldn't locate the small patch of wild garlic in our local wood this year so one here is one of many from last year taken at a National Trust property at Bodmin - Lanhydrock House and Gardens. We would normally be on holiday this week as it was my birthday on Wednesday but like so many others that is on hold for whoever knows how long...

According to tradition, the abbey was founded in about 617 in the course of the Hiberno-Scottish mission by Agilus and Eustace of Luxeuil, two monks of Luxeuil Abbey. It is believed to be the oldest monastery in Bavaria.

Reportedly during the first half of the 8th century, the abbey adopted the rules of the Benedictine order. By 932 at the latest, the abbey was under control of the Bishop of Regensburg. Following the confiscation of the abbey's silver church treasure and a ban on accepting novices, the abbey was officially dissolved on 18 March 1803 as part of the secularization of Bavaria during the process of German mediatisation.

On the initiative of King Ludwig I, Weltenburg was re-founded as a priory of Metten Abbey on 25 August 1842. It renovated the convent and repurchased other properties, including the brewery. It has been a member of the Bavarian Congregation of the Benedictine Confederation since 1858 and was raised to the status of an independent abbey in 1913.

These silos near the waterfront of San Francisco Bay are no longer used for storing cement. Previously owned by Santa Cruz Portland Cement Company, they received cement from near Santa Cruz and shipped it out from Alameda via train on the Southern Pacific Railroad, or by truck or ship. Now owned by a construction company, the property is underutilized due to an environmental cleanup issue involving an underground tank, per an online article. The cement company ceased operations in this location in 1966.

the question is who it really belongs to - to the birds or the human owner? .-)

Take a pound of table salt like it is sold in a cylinder. There are five million grains of salt in that pound. Then take forty tons of table salt. Count the grains in that forty tons and the total equals how many stars are in our Milky Way Galaxy alone. (I hear we are up to 260 billon stars. To be revised when I have time figure it out. How about 52,000 tons of table salt @ 5,000,000 grains per pound.)
