I really have the civic name Farmer. But in my youth I needed money. That's why I'm in nuclear power as a programmer and that's why I'm closed 12 hours a day in a dark office. There are 2 computers and 3 monitors. I do not know if it is day or night. That's why I envy the farmers in the fog. He knows it.
I've been in the corporate programming biz since graduating from college with a degree in computer science in 1982. During my ten year tenure at Lever Brothers, I wrote at least 600 interactive and background CICS programs, most of which communicated with VSAM indexed files as well as TS and TD Queues and a 3270 emulator screen. I always found it somewhat strange that such a large corporation didn't use IBM's relational database DB2. Oh well... back to the Newsweek magazine.
Katherine the programmer takes advantage of a quiet moment at Central Perk to finish some of her coding. She has to hurry before the "Friends" cast arrives and finds her sitting on their couch :-)
I took this photo in December 2019.... it's so weird to see the photos that I took right before the pandemic. It's like a time warp.... everything that happened before the pandemic just feels so long ago and in a galaxy far, far away. Like a distant world or something.....
Is anyone going to get the new "Friends" Apartments set? I think it looks awesome but it's very large and I'm running out of space :-)

TeamLab Borderless is a world of art without boundaries, a museum without a map. Artworks that form one borderless world. Artworks that move out of rooms, communicate with other works, influence, and sometimes intermingle with each other with no boundaries.
TeamLab is a consortium of artists, programmers, engineers, CG animators, mathematicians, architects and graphic designers.
This reminded me of the 19th Century oil painting ‘Wanderer above the Sea of Fog, by Caspar David Friedrich. A bit of artistic license on my part :)
I highly recommend a visit to this place. If you go, don’t miss the En Tea House. Make tea and a flower blooms inside the teacup. Flowers bloom infinitely as long as there is tea. The tea in the bowl becomes an infinite world in which the flowers continue to bloom. Drink in the infinitely expanding world.

Once again we are at a juncture where the programmers have forced many and especially those that use the English version and paid for premium pro accounts to use the "New Flickr Experience"
The programmers and leadership at Yahoo (i.e. CEO Marissa Mayer) failed to pay attention to the flickr users back on December 8, 2013 (flickr Black Day) and simply ignored the many fine photographers that made flickr what it was.
For the flickr programmers and especially the staff that monitor the forum please know you have once again ignored the users and pandered to advertisers. Really bad idea for flicker to change the old format. We don't mind changes that make it better, but this time your programmers got it WRONG!!!
We all enjoyed this site the way the format was without having the square pictures to the left of the info. The info blocks do not provide us with many of the options we used to have should be left as it was without messing with them and the photo format should NOT have been changed.
I would encourage everyone to only post Red for the next 36 hours and especially on 6 April and I would also encourage folks to use the flickr and Yahoo forum to ensure their voices are heard load and clear to the programming and corporate staff that their changes are making a once great web site horrible.
Simply Flickr staff and the Yahoo CEO (Ms. Mayer) pandering to the advertisers and not to the millions of great photographers that made (past tense) Flickr what it was. Flickr will go the way of AOL and MySpace if the flickr leadership doesn't listen to the photographers that provide the CONTENT and basis of what this web site was supposed to be. We will find a better platform if you make the changes stick or don't fix the multitude of bugs quickly!!!!!!!
Maybe it really is time to try 500px. What say you? What say flickr staff? What say you Ms. Marissa Mayer (CEO of Yahoo)!!

The Amiga, was a 'proper' computer with lots of interesting hardware, which made it interesting to program. It was the first computer I programmed professionally, and helped cut my teeth in the games industry.

Automan is an American soft science fiction superhero television series which aired for 12 episodes between 1983 and 1984.
"Automan (the "Automatic Man") follows the adventures of a police officer and computer programmer named Walter Nebicher (Desi Arnaz, Jr.), who has created an artificially intelligent crime fighting program that generated a hologram (Chuck Wagner) able to leave the computer world at night and fight crime.
While in the real world, Automan posed as a government agent by the name of "Otto J. Mann." This was a secret to all except Walter's close associate, Roxanne Caldwell (Heather McNair).
Nebicher could merge with Automan to become one being, sharing consciousness and skills, while retaining Automan's invulnerability.

The Emoticons are a Post Apocalyptic Gang of former computer programmers who emerged from their think tank after an extreme weekend of gaming and hacking to find the end of the world. Not known as the most powerful or lethal gang, they count on numbers over skill to carry them through to the next day!

Today the weather programmers must have been taking me for a ride. I had to go out for a walk - had not gone out for a few days - and accepted it would be a walk on a dark day. Got this chaffinch - a good bird, posed from not so far (4-5 meters). Just a few of about 100 shots in a few series got stable, this being the best (no surprise here, at 1/20-th of second).
Then I went downtown for the rest of what I wanted to do and guess what - they turned all the lights on, not a cloud in the sky.
Flickr Protest 19-27 April 2014 (Blackout Week) "Read this Flickr Programmers & Yahoo CEO"
Unfortunately this is a rehash of the protest from 6 April and from 8 December as Yahoo seems intent on destroying the web site as we know it without fixing the multitude of bugs plaguing the "new experience".
For my contacts and those that sometimes view, fav or comment on my photos, please know that I will not be posting again until after 27 April and only limited after that unless Yahoo fixes the bugs or reverts back to a fixed older format. Please don't be offended if I fail to comment or favorite your art work during this time frame as I am not ignoring your photos, but simply trying to have my small voice heard by the folks that run this web site. In the mean time please know that I have started populating most of my photos onto 500Pix as they seem to cater to photographers and not simply folks that take snapshots via IPhone's looking for attention on just another social network.
The following is what I posted two weeks ago and it still stands (although slightly modified):

It is with the utmost satisfaction & gratitude that I post this wonderful obituary in honor, recognition & preservation of not only a lifetime of contribution, but of a - sadly, heretofore - unknown legacy.

Looking a little lonely and with the calm Firth of Forth to the rear Dennis Trident, Plaxton President number 691 (SN04 AEE) is waiting for its driver to start duties on Service 19. The 19 is one of few workings where the terminus is actually in the depot itself, with passengers being dropped off a few hundreds yards away at Wakefield Avenue.
Passengers are starting to notice a new and sharper destination screen display on some of Lothian's buses. Some of the oldest double deckers in the 650 public service fleet are being fitted with a new LED digital typeface, by McKenna, which appear more bright and clearer, both in the daylight and in the dark.
It's always been the custom for Lothian's buses to be fitted with roller blinds, and in recent years these operate mechanically through a programmer within the cab. Only Lothian and London maintain this tradition with most other companies in Britain now using digital LED screens.
Lothian, and its predecessor names ECT and LRT, has always experimented with new types of screen - the fonts, sizes and type-set lettering and this measure, being introduced on the Dennis Trident double deckers, will make clearer the location and service number detail, especially for the visually impaired.
With the Tridents being the oldest buses in the fleet the blinds were becoming dirty and sometimes a little difficult to identify. The brighter LED ident is more efficient, more quick in changing at termini and where intermediate changes are required. Roller blinds on the older buses very often become faulty, slip or jam and thus creating confusion for passengers.

I was on a photo walk in downtown Toronto and was not finding inspiration. I had seen a few intriguing potential subjects, but somehow I didn’t react so they passed by, leaving me wondering why I was not reaching out. I returned to my “home base,” the university campus, where I got a coffee and sat on a concrete ledge to simply enjoy the late summer day and peope-watch. This man caught my eye on the deck outside the Image Arts building which, appropriately enough, houses the photography department of the university. His funky hat, beard, and casual bearing intrigued me and he didn’t seem in a hurry as he stood next to his bicycle, looking at his cell phone. It was time to reach out. I carried my coffee over and introduced myself and my project and he listened attentively with a friendly smile on his face – good signs. He liked the sound of the project and the photos on my contact card and said he’d be willing to be photographed but he was waiting for his friend to come out of the coffee shop. We chatted as we waited for his friend. Meet Nick, who told me his real name is Nektarios which not everyone can pronounce.
Lex appeared and I explained my intent to borrow his friend Nektarios for a few minutes for a project photo if he wouldn’t mind keeping an eye on their bikes. He said he was fine with that. I thought the light would be nice in the study lounge of the Image Arts building so I led Nektarios to the ramp leading into the lounge and positioned him so the light would be favorable and took a few photos as students came and went.
Photos taken, we exited the building to chat some more and Lex was kind enough not to rush us. I explained that Nektarios’ hat and general look had intrigued me from across the street and I thought he would be an interesting person to meet. Lex said “He’s got a bit of a Johnny Depp look going on with that hat, doesn’t he?” I agreed that he did. I suggested “But I bet Johnny Depp has a bit more money, right?” Nektarios laughed and said “He probably does, but I bet I’ve got more bicycles than he does.” It turned out I was chatting with a true bicycle fan. When I asked how many bikes he has he said he hasn’t counted recently but it’s a lot.
Nektarios was born and raised in Toronto but his 84 year old father is from Greece. Nektarios is a dual Canadian and Greek citizen and has property in Greece. He would like to spend more time in Greece and that might in fact be in the cards. He is 35 and when I asked what he is doing in life it turned out he has been an athlete but is now a musician and computer programmer, using the computer mainly to create music. He is also a man of faith. He pointed to the Orthodox church across the street and said it is the church he belongs to. He was very friendly and proceeded to explain why he follows the Orthodox church and not some other religion and it became clear that he was well-versed in the history of religion, an topic I know little about. He sees the Orthodox church as having more authenticity than other churches.
When I asked what advice he would give his younger self he shook his head and smiled. “Don’t trust women. Or, at least don’t break up with them until you’ve already secured your belongings.” He explained that his life is all about traveling through the darkness in search of the light. He said his biggest challenge is “resisting the lure of the dark side” and he said “Most of us are sinners without even realizing it.” Noting that the light was nice on the patio where we were chatting, I took a couple more photos before we said goodbye, using the coffee shop windows for the background.
As we parted each of us had a feeble handshake. My right wrist is still taped up and sore from a fracture which is still healing and he explained that his right hand has been numb for the last couple of days and he doesn’t know why. He just woke up that way and it hasn’t sorted itself out. I encouraged him to get a medical opinion in case it’s something that needs to be addressed and we wished each other well. He and Lex rode off on their bikes and I wished them safe cycling.
