I spotted this train with F units as we were driving during my April 1973 of the Twin Cities and we were able to pull over so I could get a photo.

A new kid in the bag.

Although this coral, is nothing to write home about, I thought I would share it anyway. I find the composition quite pleasing, with a nice dappled light coming from the surface, late in the afternoon.

I took the same coral a minute later, when the sun had just disappeared behind clouds and all magic had disappeared.

I made this as a presentation to my genetics professor. She was so impressed by the craftsmanship, that she hardly noticed how little I knew.

All the bases are colour-coded and at the bottom there is a nucleotide model with phosphate group (P), sugar (S) and base (B) marked. The pyrimidines and purines are distingueshed by the lighter/darker gray part. The model represents the B configuration, but can be reworked, although with much effort, into any other. I would enjoy keeping this built forever, but sadly it literally only uses my favourite pieces (minus the baseplate).

L'abbazia di Viboldone è situata a Viboldone, frazione della città di San Giuliano Milanese, in provincia di Milano. Per la bellezza della sua architettura e dei suoi affreschi trecenteschi è uno dei più importanti complessi medievali della Lombardia.

Fu fondata nel 1176 e completata nel 1348 dagli Umiliati, un ordine religioso formato da monaci, monache e laici che, attorno all'attuale chiesa, conducevano vita di preghiera e di lavoro, in particolare fabbricando panni di lana e coltivando i campi con sistemi di lavorazione assolutamente innovativi. Dopo la soppressione degli Umiliati ad opera di Carlo Borromeo, l'abbazia passò ai Benedettini Olivetani, successivamente soppressi dal governo austriaco e costretti ad abbandonare l'abbazia.

The Abbey of Viboldone is an abbey in Viboldone, a frazione of San Giuliano Milanese, in the province of Milan, northern Italy.

The abbey was founded in 1176 and completed in 1348 by the Humiliati, an order of monks, nuns and lay people who worked in the abbey producing wool cloths and cultivated the nearby fields with innovative techniques.

After the suppression of the Humiliati by Pope Pius V (1571), the abbey went to the Olivetan Benedictines, who were forced to leave the abbey in 1773, when Lombardy fell in Austrian hands.

Being a social worker isn't an easy job and it was a honor to present to and have a conversation with these bright, smart people who will be making a positive difference in the lives of countless others.

This early Smith & Wesson rimfire revolver is engraved, "Capt. S.F. Willard presented by the Scranton Guards." Capt. Willard died at Antietam 9/17/1862 (see flic.kr/p/MdTM4J). The revolver carries serial number 3346 on the butt and has patent dates of 4/3/1856, 7/3/1859 and 12/18/1860 on the revolver drum. According to www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Category4_..., "In 1856 Smith & Wesson formed their second partnership to produce a small revolver designed to fire the Rimfire cartridge they patented in August of 1854. This revolver was the first successful fully self-contained cartridge revolver available in the world. Smith & Wesson secured patents for the revolver to prevent other manufacturers from producing a cartridge revolver - giving the young company a very lucrative business."

Empire

I was at the New Haven Camera Club in Connecticut on Monday giving a presentation on my astrophotography, so I figured if I was going down that close to New York City I might as well make a weekend of it and visit the city for a few days. I didn't want to carry around a ton of camera weight so I brought my Sony A6000 mirrorless camera and a bunch of lenses that fit in a small bag, and a lightweight almost-full height tripod. I hadn't been to New York City in over 10 years, and this was the first time I was there as a real photographer.

This shot is from the Top of the Rock, the observation deck at Rockefeller Center. This is looking downtown towards the Empire State Building. One World Trade Center is visible to the right of the Empire, and if you look really close you'll see the Statue of Liberty in the mouth of the Hudson River to the right of One World Trade Center. We went up for sunset and stayed until after dark. All three observation decks were mobbed, it was an insane experience being with a zillion people outside on the top of a skyscaper. They don't allow tripods on the property so it took a lot of patience to wait for a spot on the edge to open up so I could set my camera down on the wall to get a steady shot in low light. If you're going, I'd suggest not going on the evening of Mother's Day, and bring a Gorillapod or other small tripod or a clamp style tripod. I didn't think to bring my Gorillapod.
