Big old tree of Japanese Clethra looks gnarled & fantastic.

Botanical name: Clethra Anatolia; English name: Japanese Clethra. This tree grows slowly at this barren land.

With bright, striking colors, red dahlias symbolize perseverance and the ability to overcome. They serve as a reminder of the inner strength everyone possesses, even in dark times.

Back to reality!!! My brain is still foggy and resisting the idea of going back to work. I hope everyone enjoyed the holidays.

Found baby sea turtles last Christmas. I like the message of hope and strength they represent. Last year was certainly challenging but pushing through this year with a mindset of perseverance against adversity 😊

We were out in the garden filling up Randie's little watering can

to water the flowers. We must have filled it up 3 times before I noticed

this little guy trying to escape sudden death trapped in the can filled with

water. A moment later another little fella followed :)

Sunshine in the past week; it felt like Spring and sometimes even like Summer!

Rain and nothing but rain last weekend...it felt like Autumn...

And lots of snow and again since yesterday: Winter, so we have it all within one week! :-)

The male mountain bluebird pictured here, perched on a poplar branch, was facing into a fairly strong wind during a downfall of freezing rain and snow. This was only the beginning. The area now has a thick blanket of snow and has been below 0 °C for days. Relief from the cold is still a few days away.

When I was checking on the bluebirds this morning, it was -6 °C with a bitter wind. I have seen only two on my last two visits. Earlier, when the weather was better, there were three. Last year there were six in the immediate area.

It is possible the weather has put a damper on some of the migration and more will show up when the weather warms up. I sure hope so!

"Perseverance" - As the resilient leaves of the caladium endure the persistent rain, so shall I in capturing its triumph.

Did you think this fool could never win?

Well, look at me.

I'm coming back again.

I'm still standing better than I ever did.

This photo is an expression of my crazy week. So many little things have gone wrong! Plenty of panic this week.

It is also a representation of the many elements that were required to get the image I wanted: Practice, Patience, Perseverance... and LOTS of Preparation. HMM!!

Despite all the fallen leaves and browns, yellows and rusty colors, this maidenhair fern and its little companion cousin are steadfastly hanging on to their spring-time colors. Photographed on a rainy day in the Hass Tract of the Mississippi Valley Conservancy, La Crosse, Wisconsin.

I have always seen images from this location. It is called secret beach, a funny name given that it is not so secret. It did take a while to find the location though. Its quite a trek from my house, a good 5 hours. Once I found the location, I was determined to get this image.

I packed the family in the truck, put the trailer on the back, and headed out. We got to Bandon and it was foggy, very foggy. Ah, it will blow off, right? I mean, you can really only shoot the Milky Way during a new moon, so the weather was going know that I needed this image and it would blow off, right? Nope. Fog city all weekend. Well, I did get a chance to go to the beach and scout out where I would shoot from, some day. So I guess it was not a total waste.

I set up another trip, on another new moon date but this time I watched the weather a little more closely. The weekend came up, and fog again. This time I did not even go to the beach.

But then the stars aligned, a new moon, and the whether said it would be a clear night. I made the trip with the family again, but this time tried to make it more fun (and faster) by making it a tent, trip. That worked well, it had been years since we camped in a tent. Everyone liked it and had a great time. Even the two big dogs. So I set out on Friday night to the beach. Guess what. Fog. Totally fogged out. I waited for hours and hours hoping it would clear up. Chatted with a few other photographers who laughed at me sitting there in the fog waiting. Good thing I brought a camp chair. There would be no image this night. I was not about to give up, this place was not close, and a pain to get the forces all in my favor.

I went back out the second night. This time I won, sort of. I like to use a star tracker to shoot stars, but I did not realize that because of the forest, you could not see the North Star from here, so the star tracker could not be aligned. So I shot this one old-school, long shutter, higher ISO. Glad photoshop can address the noise better now.

Anyway, got the image. Let me know what you think.
