Love the colors in this grouping. Makes me want to hop right back on the torch to make more! Ergh, if only making Etsy listings weren't so time consuming.
The recipe was called “Best Chocolate Courgette Cake“ … but in previous iterations I’ve also used zucchini or marrow - in this instance I had none of the above, so a butternut squash was substituted.
Conserving cooking oil? Use ⅔ or less of what is called for, and a bit extra squash!
Conserving eggs? Use 2 instead of the 4 listed, and a bit of extra squash!
Conserving sugar? Use half, it’ll be plenty - really!
Saving the cocoa powder? Use the last of the organic hot chocolate drink mix instead!
Can’t be bothered to make a chocolate ganache to top things off? A sprinkle of icing /powdered sugar does the trick!
Don't want to use two pans? Divide the bigger one into two and only have one to wash!
This is how recipes evolve - the ones I use anyway … and improve if I dare say so … necessity really is the Mother of Invention.
BTW, the cake was a hit … none left now!

Wearing my blue Beignet skirt by Colette Patterns. I love this skirt, but it really only goes with this thrifted bodysuit/sweater combination out of my entire wardrobe. I need to work on that. I love that it's high waisted, but I don't tuck shirts in (too much to fiddle with) and it looks odd under a shirt untucked (adds bulk to my waist). Looks like I need more bodysuits!
This skirt was made over 20 lbs ago. Meaning, since I've shrunk in the waist, I'm not sure the proportions suit me. This is a size 16 and right now my waist fits into the size 12 for this pattern. It is quite comfy to wear since it doesn't fit so snug at my natural waist. It actually sits about an inch below my belly button now.
The fabric was a great find at Joann's, cotton canvas by Nate Berkus- love the graphic look in black and white! It's been washed a few times and is slowly softening.
I was meticulous in the details and making sure everything was done just so. Bartacking on the loops, top stitch thread on the hem and waistband. Serged the seams to prevent fraying, etc. This is probably one of my most professional looking makes, finish-wise.
Maybe something with a slight wedge or heel to wear instead of flats? Or is it ok, as is? I know that I'll never take the time to adjust the waist, raise the hem, etc.
My new (not-yet-blogged) Cake Patterns Red Velvet knit dress with scissor pleat in front, finished just last night. Worn with accessories I bought for the Mad Men challenge I never completed two years ago (don't you love that vintage purse?!).
Fabric is ITY jersey from a sewing club fabric swap—yes, it was FREE!
Not hemmed, cause, well, I didn't feel like it.
I am the lightest of lightweights, so while I am participating in Theme Friday, this is just apple juice.
Will post to my blog soon at Polka Dot Overload.
Simplicity 1590 sewn up in quilting cotton for Rochelle's #springforcotton sew-along by Bonita of Lavender & Twill

Thought I had finished the quilt... just finished the binding. Doing a cursory check for string bits and found that multiple places where the light green woven fabric met seam of another was disintegrating. Grrr! I wound up handsewing about 9 small patches on, and putting fray check on other areas. Fingers crossed this poor quilt will hold up for its new owner.
MMM14 Day 3. Lazing about, wearing a striped (3 different fabrics) merino top made during MMM13. Next photo shows the me-made jacket worn over this when I went out later in the day. This outfit and links to the original blog posts for the top and jacket are includedin my MMM14 Days 1-3 post. www.upsewlate.blogspot.com
Ah, one of my favorite makes. Liesl and Co. Weekend Getaway Dress. You can also make a top/tunic, as well.
I've been meaning to make a summer appropriate top since I always miss wearing this when it gets hot. Actually cool enough to wear leggings with it today!

Oh, these Vogue Elements 9745 wide-legged trousers just make me want to cry. When I first made them in January 2012 I was super into them—they are a beautiful shade of blue, they are corduroy, they are my first pair of successful non-pajama me-made trousers and they fit and they are SO COMFORTABLE (partly due to the hidden elastic waistband).
Yet, they really are just sad, troubled pants as you can see from this photo, which is why I haven't worn them since Me Made May 2013. Fresh off the ironing board and already the crease in the leg is fading and they are just... saggy and baggy. UGH. They just look WRONG. It doesn't help that my husband who usually loves everything I make hates them and says "they aren't very... flattering."
Should I just ditch them and move on to new pants? I think I had better stick with more fitted straight leg or skinny jean styles... they seem to work better on me.
By the way, my daughter is wearing her Tomten Jacket I knit for her a few years ago—she's finally growing into it.
I was challenged to do 10 days with 10 photos of my daily life, in black and white, without explanation, without anyone in the photo.
I was challenged by my sister KJZly.
Today is Day Three.
