Her eyes penetrated the text. She went over every letter of every word spelling, sounding out each, caressing every curve, every angle, every line, dots, strokes, going up, going down, imprinting each word, memorizing the feeling, touching every word of that text, so far away from her, so far away, like a distant memory of the voice of a woman sitting at a table next to hers, at the coffee shop, saying out loud things she could hear in passing, codes flying the distance between her mind and her ears, casual, ordinary.
It was as if she had just learned how to read or she's been deaf so long she couldn't remember when last she heard and now for the first time her nerves were tickled with the vibrations, vibrations of something slithery, something forbidden, a promise, perhaps, something promised beyond time, inhumane, farther, much farther, something familiar yet never permitted for her, ...perhaps secrets revealed from a long lost civilization, forgotten before known, unreachable to her, exclusive, as if she'd found herself uninvited in a location, dreamt.
Midway through she realized how her eyes were committing every nuance, not of the words, not of the sounds even, or only..., no..., not only words nor only sounds even, something deeper, every nuance of every curve, the shapes the letters, each, made on the line, in sequence, a code, not the spaces, not in meaning only even, no..., not even, odd, definitely oddly deep, ...deeper, her eyes were committing every shape of every letter, every nuance the lines immersed the sheet with.
It had broken her heart. Her heart had broken as it was meant to.
Being a bit old-fashioned there is nothing better than a handwritten letter. For this I have a beautiful carton container as you see. Unrolling the bow to open up the letter role feels so nice.....similar to having pen friends in my teenage years.
My contribution for the theme "contained" Happy MM!
I was surprised to find this White-letter Hairstreak on the bracken early one morning in the middle of the Common with not an Elm tree in sight.
Well, the letter H occurs twice here. It's a Hover fly and it's correct Latin name is: Rhingia campestris, but these are also known as Heineken flies. When it comes to flowers, the long snout can 'reach the parts others can't reach'. Some flowers have concealed nectar sources that other hover flies can't get at. The original Heineken ads said something like 'refreshes the parts other beers can't reach' and it was close enough for the Rhingia hover flies to pick up this widely used nickname. Happy Smile on Saturday.
The illusive White Letter Hairsteak has an irritating habit of staying at the very top of Elm trees. This one was seen at Woodgate Valley Country Park high up 600mm lens. Birmingham UK - 26-06-23
Meaning "Sheep Islands", the Faroe Islands owe much of their unique identity to these hardy, tangle-haired creatures.
If visiting the Faroe Islands National Archives in the capital Tórshavn, you will find a cardboard box with an ancient book bound in leather and burnished by hundreds of years of handling.
It is known as Seyðabrævið (the Sheep Letter). It's a collection of laws enacted in 1298 and the Faroe Islands' oldest surviving written document. Among other things, it details the level of compensation to be paid if a man lets his dog chase another man's sheep; takes grazing land away from a neighbour's flock; or drives a wild sheep into another shepherd's herd, thus disturbing the "calmer" animals.

A letter that my mother wrote to my grandma when she was little..a long time ago..i just loved her writing and what she says..i used to be able to write like this too in the past..they made us practice at school..i do not think they do that anymore unless you get into calligraphy class later on ;-D
Thanks to my bro Thierry in Paris for sending me this recently...i just wanted to share ~
This one goes back to King George VI or even V, so is at least 70 years old. This box does more than receiving letters. It is also a symbol of the continuity of state and society and, perhaps, a marker where we think we can deposit our trust in the reliability of the British institutions. I wonder what happens when they remove these old letter boxes. Fuji X-E2 plus 7Artisans 35/1.2.
