The first leg of my incredible train journey across Western Canada has started, taking me on a beautiful overnight & day trip throughout the Rocky Mountains from Vancouver to Jasper. From there, I have added photographs of the famous Jasper - Banff highway, including photos of Banff & around. Amazingly scenic places, and easily one of the best road trips in the world !!

Because my ankle still isn’t feeling well (pretty sure I sprained it), I decided to end my walk one day early and instead spent a day relaxing in St. Ives. I visited the Barbara Hepworth Museum and the Tate St. Ives and the latter especially was absolutely amazing. I especially fell in love with the work of artist Peter Lanyon and spent ages observing the three paintings of his that were part of the current exhibition. It’s been years since I’ve last visited a modern art museum, but today has reminded me that I always find myself endlessly inspired by seeing modern art. I know nothing about art and am not particularly artistically inclined myself, but there is just something about looking at art that makes me feel invigorated. What is your favorite art museum?

After 4 days of packrafting down the Maclaren River, we reached the Susitna River and decided to camp on this big island. We cooked our dinner very close from the river (tarps and paddles barely visible under the sun) to minimize our impact and gear transport. Part of our bear protocol was to travel only in groups of minimum 4 and to sleep ~100 m away from the kitchen site where we left most of our gear. So most of the time it was just easier to set up the tents right before going to sleep.
Having the extra weight from the packrafting equipment, we eliminated as much gear as we could at the start of the trip and didn't take any tent stakes. Here we tied the tents to the bushes and improvised stakes with dead sticks.
The sun seems to be very close from setting, but at almost 63° N it was still 45 min away from sunset. I love the long summer daylight in the north!

I’m on a bit of mad rampage against bots and fake/ghost followers on my account at the moment. One of my images was shared by a few big accounts earlier this year which has brought me a large amount of new followers, but has sadly also lead to a massive decrease in my overall engagement. When many of your followers never engage with your images - whether that’s because they’re not all that active or because they’re bots -, the algorithm considers your content to be of low interest and as a result promotes it less and less, even to people who are actually interested in seeing your pictures. And so I’ve decided to take matters into my own hands and have been blocking fishy accounts left and right for the past few days. I don’t use Instagram to brand myself as an influencer, to promote a business or whatever else it is people use Instagram for professionally. I use Instagram to share pretty pictures, to express myself creatively and - most importantly - to make genuine connections with other like-minded people, but that’s a goal that’s rather hard to achieve when I often feel as if my pictures just don’t reach the people I hope to reach. Anyway, I know that this is all very much first-world-problem and I don’t even know if this is going to help at all and I do worry that me doing this will look like spammy bot behaviour on my part… but this is what’s been on my mind lately, so I thought I would share it openly! +
