C/2023 A3 is a periodic comet that visit Earth every 80,000 years. At the time of this image, on 16/10/2024. Its distance from us is 80 million Km (0.5 AU). Surprisingly, the extremely long dust tail is around 21 degrees (42 Full Moon). Also, In the lower left corner, we can see the Anti-tail that appears toward the Sun when Earth passing comet’s orbital plane. Gear setup: WO Redcat51, iOptron GEM45, Optolong L-Pro, ZWO 2400MC. Light subs 201 x 10 sec, total exposure 33 min Captured by NINA, Stacked inAPP, processed by PI & PS.

Gulikan: although it is not entirely clear where the name Gulikan comes from, it is generally accepted that Gulikan is a local form of the Hindu god of death, called Yama in Hindu scriptures. Gulikan is known as Lord Siva’s most important warrior. Gulikan’s dance steps are some of the most intricate and interesting of all theyyams. There is a story that says that everyone, even the gods, is afraid even to look at Gulikan. On one occasion, Siva was walking with his consort Parvati who expressed to Siva her fear of looking at Gulikan. In a rage, Siva turned to Gulikan and threw him to the ground. This is sometimes enacted during the performance of a Gulikan theyyam. Spectators at villages in Kerala often express the same kind of fear as Parvati when faced with Gulikan theyyam.

North Carolina Estuarium
Festival Park

Dating from 1998, North Carolina Estuarium is in the Washington Historic District, across Water Street from Myers House (1780), the oldest building in Washington. WHD (National Register of Historic Places, 1979; entry 79001661) includes 512 "contributing buildings"; as new as the estuarium is, it is not among those contributing to the historic character of the area. North Carolina Estuarium was the first estuarium in the world; the website linked above says it "describes North Carolina's estuaries and how they have shaped the history and culture of this region." It is adjacent to the Pamlico River, at the east end of Festival Park. Washington is the seat of Beaufort County.
