The most exciting thing is always at the border. Be it the boundary between light and dark or between cold and warm or between fog and sunshine.

Don't just criticize, encourage.

Don't just think, ponder.

Don't just take, give.

Don't just see, feel.

Don't just tell, show.

Don't just exist, live."

Another Halloween and another collaboration with Gwyn. As usual, I am asked to do a photograph but with little else given, so I show up and suddenly I am chased by a deranged witch, with a knife!

Such are the moments of SL.

Northern class 150 unit 150104 (partnered with 150138) departs Blackpool South with the 3.16pm to Colne (2N78).

With a scheduled 4 minute turnaround at this terminus, there's barely time for the driver to walk from one end of the train to the other before setting off again. On this day the turnaround was even tighter seeing as arrival from Colne was 2 minutes late.

Blackpool South, with its single platform and evidence of former glories en route, is very much the Cinderella line into this popular northern seaside town. In fact a significant part of the remaining platform has been abandoned to nature, as seen in this shot. By contrast Blackpool North is vibrant, recently electrified, and boasts fast direct services to London Euston. No surprise It also handles the vast majority of passenger arrivals and departures.

I arrived into this station on a sunny Sunday afternoon and walked the two miles or so along the bracing, enjoyable and ever vibrant promenade before waltzing back inland to North Station for the rather faster ride back to Preston.

A bit of a record shot so I'm not expecting a ten from Len. Sure I spotted Madge though.....

“Semi lost place“ shopping mall with almost all shops abandoned. It is housing an art exhibition for two months at present. The beach scene must be part of that - or a remnant of the bankrupt travel agency?

The Garden sits nestled in the West Hills of Portland, Oregon overlooking the city and providing a tranquil, urban oasis for locals and travelers alike. Designed in 1963, it encompasses 12 acres with eight separate garden styles, and includes an authentic Japanese Tea House, meandering streams, intimate walkways, and a spectacular view of Mt. Hood. This is a place to discard worldly thoughts and concerns and see oneself as a small but integral part of the universe.

Born out of a hope that the experience of peace can contribute to a long lasting peace. Born out of a belief in the power of cultural exchange. Born out of a belief in the excellence of craft, evidence in the Garden itself and the activities that come from it. Born out of a realization that all of these things are made more real and possible if we honor our connection to nature.

St Giles’ Cathedral, founded in 1124 by King David I, has been a working church for over 900 years. A backdrop to Scotland’s turbulent religious history, it has seen the seeds of civil war sown and been John Knox’s parish church during the Reformation. It is still an important centre for civic services such as the Kirking of the Parliament and services for Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle.

St Giles’ Cathedral is open to all, to worship, to visit and to experience music, art and history within its walls.

Happy Bench Monday!

Every journey hides scenery, and every experience contains revelation.

Back in June 2005 I met two Canadian backpackers who seemed like nice guys, and indeed they were. They had never been to a sub-tropical rainforest, so I helped them fill that gap in their life experience. This shot shows one of the guys climbing in the buttress roots of a Strangler Fig tree in the rainforest.

Quiet, misty morning over Frankland River in the southern parts of Western Australia. Sun was only just beginning to break through the thick cover of fog on a mellow autumn day.

This will be my last photo for a couple of months. I am taking a break to do a bit of travelling. I hope to be back posting towards the end of November (although, knowing me, it will most likely be a little bit later).

Visited a very quite Moraine Lake ("above" Lake Louise). the parking lot at L. Louise was full again so we decided to try our luck at Moraine. No problems parking there. You should have seen it last year, people lining up at the road entrance at 5:00AM to get up to the lake. Like it a bit better this way. ;( though mixed feelings about the reasons !! see date if you remember those times.
