We are experiencing a particularly hot summer this year. No wonder this Elkhorn Fern's outer fronds are dried and discolored.
Elkhorn ferns (also called Staghorn ferns) are ‘epiphyte’, meaning that they grow on tree branches and trunks naturally. They can grow fairly large, although they require at least 10 years to achieve their maximum size.
These plants make two types of fronds. The shield, or sterile fronds, wrap around the tree or rock on which the plant is growing. These shields usually form a basket which collects debris, providing a medium for root growth, and aiding in moisture collection and retention. The fertile, or normal fronds, grow out from the bud, and the spores are borne on these. Some species make fertile fronds much like the antler of a deer. Others are nearly round, or wedge shaped.

Love's no pressure
When it's with someone who tends to
All of your emotions, don't you
Want someone who's there for you
Want someone who's there for you
Love always feels better when it's true
Love tastes way too bitter when it's you
I'm all out of love, you gave it away
I'm hoping that experience can get you to change
I'm hoping that experience can get you to change
I'm hoping that

Sometimes I ride my bicycle through the places of strange calmness. It will force you to stop and unmount and observe. The forest communicate on strange levels with the soul. It keeps your counciousness out of the game, leaving only the weird sence of spiritual experience...

Par. 237: Coming back to herself, she retained in her memory the sweetness of this contemplation, delighting in it, without, however, experiencing it again. And remembering what she had seen and understood, comforted by the indescribable divine sweetness, she reposed peacefully in the arms of the Beloved, burning with the fire of love. Then she understood the sense of the words cited above, but less by intelligence than by experience, with the purified eye of the spirit, and she became aware that she loved herself perfectly for Christ’s sake, but that there are few who reach this summit of perfect love.”

There is only one place in Victoria that I know of where you where can walk right into the canola fields and immerse yourself in the glorious and bright golden yellow flowers, and that is at the 'Cornella Canola Walk'. In conjunction with the Shiraz Republic Winery and Cornella Brewery just outside of Heathcote in country Victoria, a canola walk has established complete with a viewing platform and walking track through the flowering yellow crop. And this is where I went on Saturday.
Now in its third year, the 'Cornella Canola Walk' is a wonderfully immersive experience that is full of colour! It was a wonderful way to spend the last day of winter this year, surrounded by a seemingly endless field of golden yellow flowers beneath the blue sky!

One of the many money shots of Horseshoe Bluff in the Mines of Spain State Park near Dubuque,IA. This historic park stems from the areas beginnings when Spain owned the area and lead mining was king. The Park, which contains many areas that are listed as National Historic Landmarks, was first developed as a lead mining site by Julien Dubuque. His grave site is on a scenic bluff overlooking the Mississippi River within the park....
The Rossfeld Panoramic Road is one of those roads that you don't just drive on – you experience it. After the first few bends, the view opens up and suddenly the world lies beneath you: the Berchtesgadener Land, the Salzburg mountains, the Hoher Göll.
The road winds its way through the landscape like a ribbon, and every stop offers a new panorama that you want to capture – with your camera or simply in your heart.

Jordan, en route to Petra. A city built symmetrically around a temple. One road into the city, one road out. I do note a lack of park lands also I suspect there is a camel in the shot somewhere. Every house we passed in this land seemed to own at least one camel. I was warned off taking pictures of people a number of times. Not an area I would care to revisit but grateful we had the unique opportunity to visit it once. It is a rare experience to touch land that dates back to Jesus. The furthest we go back in North America is buying a hamburger at the original McDonald's Restaurant in San Bernardino, California.
Anyway - back to camels - let me know if you spot one.
Here is a scene from one of the area that resembles a creepy movie scene, of the Southern Bayou region. It was one of the most amazing area I ever photographed, an experience that will stick in my memory forever.
Visited a very quite Moraine Lake ("above" Lake Louise). the parking lot at L. Louise was full again so we decided to try our luck at Moraine. No problems parking there. You should have seen it last year, people lining up at the road entrance at 5:00AM to get up to the lake. Like it a bit better this way. ;( though mixed feelings about the reasons !! see date if you remember those times.

Hello friends,
Something new from me. I was hesitant about posting this as this my first attempt at this type of photography and edit. But when I saw the back of my camera after taking it I knew I had to try. I should get better at these types of pictures since I never seem to sleep at night anyway. First time for everything!
I was listening to Stairway to Heaven when I started the process of posting this and had it titled as such. But the more I thought about it the more cliche it sounded. It does remind me of something similar to that though. Perhaps some of you will catch the reference to the title :) Even though it is imperfect in a million times I think the only way to see growth is by posting pictures along the way. It's astonishing to look back and see how we grow. I do that often with people here I follow. Some of you have been with me since the very beginning in my very humble efforts. Flickr will always be my first love when it comes to community. I have never experienced the same type of encouragement anywhere else that I experience here. Thank you for being with me on this journey, for growing with me and never failing to inspire me.
Love always,
Rachel
