Collage of all cometary nuclei imaged by spacecrafts and planetary radars. Resolution is 25 meters per pixel. Updated version which contains all imaged comet up to 22.12.2018 (last one is 46P/Wirtanen).
There is also more correct size of the comet 8P/Tuttle as the original size in previous versions was highly probably invalid.

Comet Shoemaker - Levy 9 (D/1993 F2) was a comet that broke into at least 21 fragments and collided with Jupiter in July 1994, providing the first direct observation of a collision between Solar System objects.
I watched this extraordinary event for a few days, also getting some recently digitized VHS videos. These images are the result of current successful imaging techniques 25 years later.

Már olyan régóta szerettem volna kicsit makrózni, de az önszemmakrót nem sikerült live view nélkül megoldani (és sennnn kolega remekműveinek hála már valószínűleg nem is fogom :P), a golyóstoll ötletet inkoo barátunk szintén megvalósította, lepkét nem tudok, mert mindig elmegy, legyet meg nem fogok (bleee), stbstb, szóval mire eljutottam odáig, hogy "na akkor végre makró", addigra ellőtték az előre jól kigondolt ötleteket mások :P :D
Így kezdtem el gondolkozni valami egyedin, s egyszercsak beugrott a gyufafotó víziója :) Persze nekem abból is a legnehezebb pillanatra volt szükségem, amikor lángrakap a cucc.... na nem baj, telére 55ös obit becsavarni, telét vázra felcsattintani, gépet állványra fel, távkioldó be, gyufát elő, ééééés itt jön csak a nehézség :) Mert ugyebár a szememmel nézek bele a keresőbe, átkarolom a vázat az állványon kétoldalról, és a méretes obirendszer előtt próbálkozok a helyes pár miliméteres élesség-tartományban gyufát gyújtani, izgulva a fordított obi hátsó lencséjének épségéért... ha minden esetleg szerencsésen össze is jön, akkor még ott tartok, hogy kellene egy 3. kéz az exponáláshoz, de ez meg sajnos "nem van" :)
Ebbéli szenvedelmeim közepette jöttem rá, hogy ha a távkioldót együtt fogom a gyufásdobozzal, akkor amint begyullad a fej, azonnal vagy még előtte megnyomom, így sorozat módban (az előre beállított manuális értékek és fókusz mellett) csak a helyes tárgytávolságra kell figyelni, s el lehet kapni a legjobb pillanatokat. A végére minden gyufaszál meggyulladása jókor, jó helyen történt, úgy tűnik, gyakorlat kérdése az egész...
4 doboz gyufa legjobb pillanatait (persze anya legnagyobb örömére :P) úgy 900 képen sikerült megörökíteni, ebből a felén csak sötétség látható a sorozatlövés miatt, de összesen 132 tökéletes begyulladás lett a végeredmény. Ebből már csak klisé- és tucatfotó-kerülő képeket kellett válogatni, így maradt bent a döntőben ez a 4 "fantáziadús"-nak mondható kép :)
Remélem tetszenek, másfél óra kemény piromániázás eredménye! :D

It's a great movie, came out when I was seven.
I took this photo because of the interesting fact I'd realized in the movie: When the comet is split up in to two, one smaller half and one larger, their trajectories are interesting: The smaller half in the movie is expected to hit the Atlantic Ocean, which it does hit (this photo is the result of that, with the wave advancing on New York).
The larger half, although destroyed before it could do so, was expected to impact elsewhere. Guess where? Canada. In the movie, they determined that the larger half would impact the western prairies, particularly Saskatchewan and Alberta.
The tragic aspect aside, if it did hit, it would, in the movie, fill the entire Earth's atmosphere with dust for two years. What's so interesting is that it would mean that the entire plant and animal life would be killed off within months, all due to Canadian soil. The stuff farmers till near Regina would be responsible for blocking out the sun for the entire planet!
If that happened in real life, I could certainly not be thankful of my position - while Ottawa is nowhere near the prairies, we'd likely be destroyed by the tsunami wave created by the smaller asteroid - and that actually hit Earth in the movie, while the bigger comet was destroyed before it could hit. I'd much prefer to be in places like Vancouver, Edmonton, Regina, Calgary, or Saskatoon. Nothing happened over there, they were saved, the wave didn't get that far inland.
