24TH JUNE, LONDON – The London Python User Group meetup at Skills Matter for a talk by Antonio Cavallo introducing debug in Python. Introducing three debuggers pdb, winpdb and gdb and their use to debug simple crashing python applications at both python code and C level. Twinkle Tartiflette a Lilypad Arduino driven interactive artwork that plays appropriate notes to song by touching words with stylus. This took me weeks to work out how to make, put together, write the code, test and debug!

“This is a very nice app for learning/developing/testing Javascript code snippets and aps. What I really love about this is the debugger.”

A system debugging is operated on a medium-low speed maglev train in Changsha, capital of central China's Hunan Province, Feb. 2, 2016. China's first domestically designed and manufactured magnetic levitation line, linking Changsha's south railway station and the airport, will be on a trial run with passengers in the first half of the year. It takes about ten minutes to complete the 18.55-km journey.

The top signal shows the premature death of the ATtiny24's TIM1_COMPA_vect. In hindsight the explanation is trivial, but I didn't suspect that cause until very late in the debugging process - as usual.

Chasing a stubborn problem with CC2500 radios last night. Eventually it turned out to be a problem with compiler settings for the cross-compiler generating code for a slightly different platform. Because of the similarities the firmware image didn't fail outright and made the mistake that much harder to detect.

It would be impossible for me to overstate how frustrating today was. Effectively I spent 9 hours debugging a problem that was (as far as I can tell) completely non-deterministic / irrational. I swapped out everything, software and hardware. I reset everything. I jiggled the thingy. I rebooted stuff. I rebuilt. And then, just as magically as the crash had shown up, at about 5pm it just disappeared. The most horrifying thing is that for every thing that I did in the 30 minutes leading up to "it works", I can pretty decisively argue that thing as being NOT involved in the problem.
There are days that really make me question how cold and rational computers really are. If I was just slightly more superstitious, I would point at today and say, "There was a demon sitting on my desk today."
This is take-out dessert from the local bakery. In shooting this, I decided to consciously try the opposite approach that I would ordinarily use. So instead of starting with a wide-open lens, I'd shoot as narrow as possible (this is f/36), and instead of bringing out a big diffuser like my favorite umbrella, I'd shoot with two bare bulbs and see if I could tame the light with reflectors and in post. I'm not wholly convinced it worked, but it was at least fun to try.
Victoria is flying out to visit her folks for a few days starting tomorrow. So even if long hours continue, I'll start being a proper flickr friend again tomorrow night.
