You never know what lies ahead, as the saying goes.

strolling, stunning, crossing

At either end of the platforms of the East and West loops the rails cross over, allowing the Mail Rail trains to pass each other as they delivered the mail.

The Mail Rail tunnels were used to transport mail all around London on a network of automated underground electric trains. It opened in 1927, and only ceased service in 2003.

Back in the woods again. Patchy sunlight illuminated this dark corner of Ferns, I found the colours and shapes very attractive.

A westbound autorack train passes the twin cantilever signals that guarded the crossovers just west of Wellton. Unfortunately, these were replaced just a few months later.

This timber bridge spans Penticton Creek and was built by the Canadian National Railroad. It's valued as a symbol of two important transportation systems in Penticton in the early 1930s. The bridge linked the CNR docks to the industrial spur lines on the Penticton waterfront to the Kettle Valley Railway line, a Canadian Pacific Railway subsidiary. In the early 20th century, with trains and shipping docks, the city of Penticton became an important transportation hub for the Okanagan Valley. The building is an art gallery.
