The Kingfisher has been pretty interesting (but also hard) to capture. Next time I will try harder and maybe get closer for even better results.
Fall 2015...week 3, photo # 2...Peaks of Otter, Blue Ridge Parkway, Va
This one was also taken at the Peaks of Otter. The Fall colors are slowly coming to life. The view from this walkway is always a favorite, with Sharp Top prominent in the background. This time, Sharp Top was completed obscured by fog. But the walkway still provided a good opportunity for a creative view. Love the Peaks!
I thought it might be nice to show you the finished product. The forms were removed the very next day.
The sequence was: footings were poured and leveled and rebar set vertically to tie in the walls. That was done a week or so prior. Then the metal forms went up with rebar between them. The concrete was then poured. After 12 hours the forms could be removed. So this is the result the very next day. This is the basement and garage. A two story house will be built on top of these walls. This is the back view.
ODC - complete obsession
I obsess about finding interesting light, this was taken as the sun was starting to peek over the mountain this morning. The flower is from my chive plant sitting on my front porch.
I'm sorry for the delay but I was very busy at work... Finally I can show you the transformation from tadpole to toad complete. A centimeter of beauty!
In the easter day I freed 3 of these in the field near the pond where I found them and I'm waiting that the last two tadpoles have finished the metamorphosis to free them also!
Handheld stack taken with 6D, MP-E, at about 2,7-2,8X, diffused flash MK320. Wide of image is about 13mm.
I hope you like it and I thank you for your visits, faves and comments that are always very appreciated!

I first took a picture of this house in April of 2021 when it was undergoing renovation. See the photo in my first comment. It looks beautiful now. What a fine job of restoration. I would love to sit on that lovely porch. HWW!
This is my first completed image with the new ODK10 telescope from Orion Optics. It has taken a little tuning all round. but I think I'm there now!
NGC 7635, also called the Bubble Nebula, Sharpless 162, or Caldwell 11, is a H II region emission nebula in the constellation Cassiopeia. It lies close to the direction of the open cluster Messier 52. The "bubble" is created by the stellar wind from a massive hot, 8.7 magnitude young central star. The nebula is near a giant molecular cloud which contains the expansion of the bubble nebula while itself being excited by the hot central star, causing it to glow. It was discovered in 1787 by William Herschel. It is located approx 7800 light years away.

It's taking way too long, people. They shut this road down some time during trump's tenure. The Germans could have completed this in six months, at twice the thickness of a standard American road. On most days, no work is being performed here. On 9-21-2023, the bridge was finally completed and is open to traffic.
St George in the East
Situated in Cannon Street Road, Whitechapel, London E1 0BH.
It was built between 1714 and 1729 with the funding from an Act of Parliament. It is one of the six London churches designed and built by famous architect Nicholas Hawksmoor.
The church was very expensive to build, at the cost of nearly £20k, it was designed to seat over 1,000 people.
In and around 1800, major work was done on the entrance steps. In 1820 a new vault was added, also the churchyard was drained. In 1829 the church was re-roofed. In 1871, box pews were removed in order to install new seating.
In 1880, 5 Venetian glass mosaics were installed in the apse, illustrating passion and resurrection scenes. The organ which was in poor state had to be rebuilt and between 1881-1886 this was completed by the firm Gray and Davidson.
In 1941 during the blitz the church received a direct hit from a bomb. The interior was destroyed by a severe fire that swept through the building. Fortunately the walls and towers survived intact. The mosaics were also saved but had to be restored.
A new interior was completed in 1964, designed by Arthur Bailey. The design, a much more simple plan.
Scenes from the film ‘The Long Good Friday’ were filmed in and around the churchyard.
Completed in 1931, the Pittsburgh & West Virginia’s mainline to Connellsville became the final link in creating the famed “Alphabet Route”, which was designed to attract through-traffic off of the big time railroad empires of the century. After the fall of Robert Gould’s empire, the plan to expand had faded off. Years later, under new receivership was the mainline revitalized.
There was nothing wasted when it came to designing and laying this route, bulldozing through every hill and filling every land gap with these enormous steel viaducts. Having seen so many photos growing up and shooting it dozens of times, this line remains to be a favorite in my books, and in my opinion, one of the most photogenic lines on the East coast.
In this picture, Wheeling’s 618 job stretches their consist over Mingo Creek, probably the most iconic location on the entire route.
Interestingly enough, in April of 2025, this exact scenario had occurred. The 6348, 6354, and engines for SWP led this same job, in similar conditions, almost a year ago. Though I was not present for the April run, it’s an odd feeling to see this scene repeated almost verbatim, in a time where uncertainty rests upon this railroad. These coke trains really do have a special spot in my heart, and so the addiction to shooting them continues.

Completed in 1886, the Second Empire-style John Bremond Jr. House is the most outstanding home in the Bremond Block Historic District - a collection of eleven historic homes in downtown Austin, constructed from the 1850s to 1910. The block was added to National Register of Historic Places in 1970, and is considered one of the few remaining upper-class Victorian neighborhoods of the middle to late nineteenth century in Texas. Six of the eleven houses were built or expanded for members of the families of brothers Eugene and John Bremond, who were prominent in late-nineteenth-century Austin social, merchandising, and banking circles.
Located on the corner of Seventh and Guadalupe, the John Bremond, Jr. House is a graceful and exuberant example of Texas Victorian architecture. Its crested mansard roof has elaborate dormers, polychrome slate shingles, and concave bracketed curves on the front gable. The cast-iron work on the wrap-around gallery is outstanding. This house and several of the others were built by George Fiegel. All the buildings within the Bremond Block are beautifully maintained. The John Bremond, Jr. house is currently owned by the Texas Classroom Teachers Association, who have made it the association headquarters.
As of 2021, Austin had an estimated population of 964,177, The city is the cultural and economic center of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan statistical area, which had an estimated population of 2,421,115 as of July 1, 2022. Austin is home of the University of Texas at Austin, one of the largest universities in the U.S. with over 50,000 students.
