The church that stands today was completed in 1717. This church was built on the rubble of the 1625 church destroyed in the Pueblo Indian Revolt.

Enjoy the week!

Completed in 1903, this Victorian Romanesque building houses the Department of Art. Like nearby Kingston Hall, it was named for the level of government that funded it: it was built by the provincial government to house the Ontario School of Mining and Agriculture, which later became Queen's Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science.

The Kingfisher has been pretty interesting (but also hard) to capture. Next time I will try harder and maybe get closer for even better results.

I thought it might be nice to show you the finished product. The forms were removed the very next day.

The sequence was: footings were poured and leveled and rebar set vertically to tie in the walls. That was done a week or so prior. Then the metal forms went up with rebar between them. The concrete was then poured. After 12 hours the forms could be removed. So this is the result the very next day. This is the basement and garage. A two story house will be built on top of these walls. This is the back view.

ODC - complete obsession

I obsess about finding interesting light, this was taken as the sun was starting to peek over the mountain this morning. The flower is from my chive plant sitting on my front porch.

No trip to the Highlands would be complete without stopping off to see and photograph the Caol wreck. That being said I have visited the Scottish Highland dozens of times and this was the first time I had found time to stop off here.

The 1975 built trawler MV Dayspring was washed up on the shingle at Caol back in 2011 and has been a sight I have kept intending to visit. The 26 metre boat is gradually decaying so the overcast moody weather on the day of my visit seemed so appropriate.

For those who don't know the area, the UK's highest peak, Ben Nevis can be seen directly behind the wreck looming up out of the loch and into the cloud.

I'm sorry for the delay but I was very busy at work... Finally I can show you the transformation from tadpole to toad complete. A centimeter of beauty!

In the easter day I freed 3 of these in the field near the pond where I found them and I'm waiting that the last two tadpoles have finished the metamorphosis to free them also!

I first took a picture of this house in April of 2021 when it was undergoing renovation. See the photo in my first comment. It looks beautiful now. What a fine job of restoration. I would love to sit on that lovely porch. HWW!

On our trip around Vancouver Island, we started in Victoria. While there, I took some time to travel down to the waterside to see the ocean. It struck me how calm it was at low tide. After composing and taking a shot of the now visible rocks, and smooth waters, I left thinking one comp was in the bag.

However, two kayakers soon appeared giving me an added idea that would contribute to that same image. I quickly returned to the same spot, and waited for them to enter my precomposed scene. Later it occurred to me how much more complete the shot was with these travellers than without them. And how thee narrative changed to something more interesting.

Completed in 1931, the Pittsburgh & West Virginia’s mainline to Connellsville became the final link in creating the famed “Alphabet Route”, which was designed to attract through-traffic off of the big time railroad empires of the century. After the fall of Robert Gould’s empire, the plan to expand had faded off. Years later, under new receivership was the mainline revitalized.

There was nothing wasted when it came to designing and laying this route, bulldozing through every hill and filling every land gap with these enormous steel viaducts. Having seen so many photos growing up and shooting it dozens of times, this line remains to be a favorite in my books, and in my opinion, one of the most photogenic lines on the East coast.

In this picture, Wheeling’s 618 job stretches their consist over Mingo Creek, probably the most iconic location on the entire route.

Interestingly enough, in April of 2025, this exact scenario had occurred. The 6348, 6354, and engines for SWP led this same job, in similar conditions, almost a year ago. Though I was not present for the April run, it’s an odd feeling to see this scene repeated almost verbatim, in a time where uncertainty rests upon this railroad. These coke trains really do have a special spot in my heart, and so the addiction to shooting them continues.

I used to think peace would arrive dramatically. Like a door finally opening somewhere.

Instead it comes quietly sometimes in moments like this — where you stand in the middle of nowhere with flowers brushing against your legs and suddenly remember that being alive is not a task to complete.

Urgh, I took tons of photos of her and none of them turned out well. Hopefully I can find time this week to get some better shots, 'cuz she's really a pretty gal.

Completed in 1810 by John Rennie, the spectacular Dundas Aqueduct carries the Kennet & Avon Canal over the River Avon and is a Scheduled Monument. It was the first canal structure to be designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument in 1951.

Named after Charles Dundas, the first chairman of the Kennet and Avon Canal Company, the aqueduct forms the junction between the Kennet and Avon Canal and the largely derelict Somerset Coal Canal. The short stretch of the Somerset Coal Canal still in water forms Brassknocker Basin, used for boat moorings, cycle hire and a cafe. A short walk further there is the Dundas Wharf where the small tollhouse, warehouse and crane still stand.

No Alaska bingo card would be complete without whale watching - or "chasing tail" as our captain called it. The deeper a whale dives the higher they raise their tail to get momentum. And whale tails are like people fingerprints - all unique and used to identify individuals. Fascinating, but hard to capture a well-composed, interesting photograph. Whale tail spray helps.

This pano is so wide it is looking up river and down river simultaneously.
