‘All hope abandon, ye who enter here …’
This is the entry to Alfredo Jaar's The Divine Comedy looking at Dante's great work. It is described as, "Mona’s answer to the afterlife: a journey through hell, purgatory and paradise (via Dante, of course)."
Given the constraints of time on this short visit, I was not able to experience what was behind that door at the top of the stairs. So I am unable to verify whether or not people ever return from visiting here. But the entrance does look suspiciously like a Mark Rothko painting.
Return to The Silly Series with another visual take on an english idiom . Hope you like it and thanks for any smiles ,giggles, laughs, grins, faves and comments : )
But already my desire and my will
were being turned like a wheel, all at one speed,
by the Love which moves the sun and the other stars.
Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri
1.i have date night every friday night, even if no one else is here to share it.
date night involves me taking a bath and lighting about 50 candles in the living room.
i put on some groovy tunes and something satiny and drink something alcoholic and cuddle up to the softest
blanket ever and yeah, that is about it.
2.i have another date night every saturday night, with my best friend jessica.
it usually involves kung pao tofo and peppers and some crappy romantic comedy
and a crafty creative project.
3.i have 2 bathrooms in my place. one of them has doorknob issues. everyone who
has ever used it freaks out because they think they can't open the door. actually,
you just have to turn the knob the other direction ( to the left ) ... but trust me on this
... almost every doorknob is supposed to turn to the right.
4.i don't watch that much tv anymore but i have noticed that my favorite shows over the
years are ones that involve major sexual tension between the main characters ( i.e. moonlighting,
who's the boss, x files etc.)
5.i have temperature issues in bed.
i am usually naked or in a slip at night.
if i am really cold, i love tons of warm blankets
and if i am really warm, i love one super cold sheet wrapped around me.
6.i have a fascination with Starbucks Iced tea Lemonade concoction.
i have yet to find a barista make it the same way twice and i know they have
directions for all their drinks.
i finally found a man who made it perfectly
it used to be my favorite drink there
...
he quit and now no one makes it good anymore.
7.i have serious light bulb issues in this apartment.
with all my ceiling lights, bathroom lights, kitchen lights, bedroom lights, etc.
i probably manage to kill 2 light bulbs a week.
even on a step stool i can't reach them, so i have to wait until saturday night date night
to have my tall best friend change my bulbs.
i spoke to her earlier tonight and told her she needs to come over tomorrow
because if i wait any longer, i am going to be sitting here in the dark.
8.i've been thinking about quitting my job and moving.
something very unlike me but i really feel as if i need a change.
i don't know where i'd go. i have ideas, but not really.
all my friends and family are here.
i have a good job at a company i have been with now starting 8 years.
i just need something different somewhere else.
9.one of my favorite ice creams is Nestle's King Size Drumstick ice cream cones.
my friend just came by and i made him drive me to 7-11 to get one and i gobbled that fucker right up.
yum!
10.i've been really poopy all year.
i am not used to this feeling of gloom.
i find myself crying far too much and it kind of sucks.
i don't really have it in me to go on more about that, so pffft.
11.i have a magnetic dart board on the back of my front door.
i suck at it.
with practice i am sure i could get better.
these magnetic darts are what suck, not me.
12.which reminds me, i used to love to shoot pool.
i grew up with a pool table ( my parents own one)
and i used to frequent a coffee house in high school that had one.
sadly, the coffee shop table had this horrid tilt and i had to learn the tricks and secrets
of how to play on that table..but when new comers would play, i managed to kick and ass
or two.
13.i collect wrapping paper, but not in a Dyxie way :P
i have this tall clear glass vase with rolls of beautifully printed wrapping
paper sticking out of it. i use it as art or something.
once in a while, if i am feeling crafty, i cover a coffee can in it, or frame it, or cover
my refrigerator in it, or wrap a pringles can in it for my ttv contraption.

Early evening settles over the Curran Theatre, where the Theater District briefly exhales and lets the architecture take the lead. The sky is pale and unresolved, flattening the roofline into a quiet backdrop while the lower façade deepens into cool blue-gray shadow. Three arched bays hold steady at street level, their lamps glowing just enough to suggest activity behind closed doors.
The building’s Beaux-Arts discipline reads clearly here: cream-colored stone framing warm brick, ornament deployed with restraint rather than excess. Medallions, carved faces, and evenly spaced windows reward close looking without demanding it. Above the canopy, repetition takes over—cornice, oculus, brick, stone—an architectural rhythm meant to reassure. Below it, the street stays deferential, allowing the theater to stand uninterrupted, composed, and complete.
The words “Comedy” and “Tragedy” inscribed into the canopy feel less theatrical than observational. In downtown San Francisco, those ideas have always lived side by side, sometimes within the same block, sometimes within the same evening. The Curran has hosted spectacle and intimacy in equal measure, but this photograph avoids performance. No crowds, no marquee glare—just the building at rest, between acts.
Scenes like this reveal a different San Francisco noir: not shadowy figures or flashing lights, but permanence holding its ground. The Curran waits patiently, confident in its proportions and its past, ready for the city to catch up when it’s ready to take a seat again.

A pair of ancient Greek theatre masks reflect the ups & downs (joys & sorrows) of our human lives . Also called the Sock & Buskin as an actor in a tragic role wore a type of boot (buskin) to elevate him above the other actors who only wore socks on their feet. Grapes on the comedy mask suggest the joyful influence of wine & the horns for devilish fun !!
Be a bit of a devil & look at my masks album .
"TIME named the National Comedy Center one of its 'World’s Greatest Places,' — one of only '100 new and newly noteworthy destinations to experience right now' and one of only nine attractions to visit in the United States." It opened in 2018.

Joseph Frank "Buster" Keaton (October 4, 1895 – February 1, 1966) was an American comic actor, filmmaker, producer and writer. He was best known for his silent films, in which his trademark was physical comedy with a consistently stoic, deadpan expression, earning him the nickname "The Great Stone Face".

My biggest photoshoot to date (15 people, 6 hours) and I loved every second of it... save for the hurting back I experienced after the shoot. LOL

A wonderful night at the Comedy Store on the Sunset Strip. Always gonna love these neon caricatures and, yes, I do recognize all of them!
Comments always appreciated, as long as you keep it clean - I love to hear your feedback! xx
We were in Leeds a day early for Leeds First Friday weekend. We went to see a comedy night at Leeds Library on the Thursday night.
First we had tea at Pieminister and unexpectedly there was a power cut while we were there. This meant the tills stopped working and so we got our meal for free! :-)
The comedy night was hosted by the very funny Chris Lumb of Shoe Cake Comedy, we had 3 great stand-ups to see - Brennan Reece, Seeta Wrilghtson and Ben Norris, all of them hilarious!
Gemma and I did a very brave thing, and quite deliberately. We sat right at the front where comedians will often pick people out! Although I suspect it's more difficult ground for a comedian to pick on a trans girl. And as it turned out, none of the comedians did pick on us, though they did pick on plenty of others in the audience, ha ha! It was a good test of our self-confidence doing that, and I really enjoyed the whole experience.
Afterwards we went for a drink in Queens Court before heading back to the hotel.
Hotel selfies.

Special thanks to apprentice Alex Orillo for filling in for me during my smoke breaks. I needed that!
Eric is a public speaker, host, MindMap trainer, known to heaps of Pinoys as the husband of actress/ex-MTV VJ Donita Rose, self-proclaimed "dork + dreamer", and an all-around nice guy with lots of charisma.
Eric will be hosting Comedy Cartel's big show at the Music Museum, happening the 27th of November, featuring 12 fab standup comics of comedy Cartel. I did the shots for the promotion and all. (How cool was that? :-P) Will be posting more of them photos as soon as I have the time. For now, I am posting this and will say hi to my Flickr friends cause I missed y'all and your fab works. ^^
[As for the title "e-vill" is a portmanteau of Eric's first and last names - which he uses as a nick. ^^]
