Three bull elephants going about their business one sunny morning at Kanana in the Okavango Delta, they walked right by without so much as a "by your leave" or nod of acknowledgement. This is the last of about six shots I took of them; it's my favourite.

Special acknowledgement for my friend Gary (www.flickr.com/photos/34897692@N04/) for the big hand in improving the quality of this picture. He thankfully bring out the beauty of the wing movement as well create a more motion feel. Thanks Gary!

I applaud anyone's need to move on from their past and the things they've done. I heartily congratulate anyone who has found genuine self-forgiveness and happiness.

I would only hope that as part of their journey, they pause to reflect on the actual harm they caused others. I know I do.

Real forgiveness requires acknowledgement that a wrong has been done. The words "I'm sorry" are overused, tired, but always welcomed.

Until then, you can never truly let it go.

Thankful for the continued support!! 🌼

You are my small green friend

You are always available for admirations or arguments

Shivering in the wind like an old human

Hoping for sunlight to fall across your many bumpy shoulders

As you lift up the weight of worlds.

Some humans think that plants grow stronger and faster

When they are spoken to in a gentle voice

With love and with a touch of acknowledgement

They are the only ones who can keep all your secrets

And still manage to survive

The Red Kite

My favourite Bird of Prey

Stunning colour., Big and Powerful but with that something else...

They play., they're curious., and when they look at you there's that hint of intelligence you just don't 'get' from a Buzzard or a Marsh Harrier

The Crows (most intelligent of them all) will tease a Buzzard like some big dumb oath., We've witnessed similar behaviour with Eagles., but they'll show far more respect to a Kite

Perhaps an acknowledgement., This is no dumb killing machine

This is a 'bright' and special animal

A funny thing happened to me today in that I was doing a search for the best website links for Bill Callahan, a musician I really love and have loved for about 20 years first when he was with Smog and then solo and I found that quite a few publications are using photos I took of him without asking me or crediting me. Isn't that just wonderful?

Not so much...

Here's the biggest publication, The Guardian, using my photo without credit or asking:

www.theguardian.com/music/2011/mar/31/bill-callahan-apoca...

And here's where that same photo from 2008 appeared on Flickr:

www.flickr.com/photos/kirstiecat/2714024070/in/photolist-...

I mean, I guess that counts as a donation to their website? I do love their reporting and they are one of the only publications left out there reporting the truth and who got me through the dark period of Trump. We need publications like this! But ... it just feels wrong. They didn't even ask or credit me. I realize this is a from a long time ago and likely not the artist's fault but just like any musician wouldn't want someone to take one of their songs without even the basic acknowledgement, photographers should rightfully feel the same way. Certainly a journalist wouldn't want their work plagiarized, either. We're in a time of AI taking over fields of art and I have to wonder if it's because we never actually valued the human identity attached to the art work anyway.

In any case, I don't want all that to take away from a birthday photo for a musician I do dearly love and here's a link to Callahan's music:

In celebration of my birthday, here is one of my early attempts at rescuing a nothing photo using Photoshop 5. That program opened up a whole new world of frustrating challenges, a steep learning curve and wonderful possibilities to me. It also extended my horizons and broadened my experience of photography; I've never looked back.

The original shot was a snap of a man on a jetski, it was poorly composed and the horizon sloped impossibly to the left. It's still not a good shot, but I'm happy to own it in acknowledgement of how far I've come.

Being different shouldn't be treated as something wrong or bad. Nor should we be afraid of it. It's not a decease or a fault. It's natural. We 're all different in so many ways, yet we are all humans, right? And in what a contradiction this leads us to...

Yet being different is not wrong. It can be a good thing like a trait of a leader for example. Or it can be an embracing to change. It can signal a transition. Like the first yellow leaf among its green siblings in the end of a summer, signals Autumn's impending arrival. A change of season. A transition or a transitional period.

Same can be said for us. We are born as babies and become children. Then we stop being children and become teens. And later on we grow to adults. Those are transitions and most often than not, signs are there. You can see it happen if you know what to look for. Like that first yellow leaf I was talking about before. Yet we all were babies and then children and then teens and then adults right? So in a way we are all the same...? And again, how is that for a contradiction? But if we focus on contradiction, we are missing the point. We are missing the transition, the change that will happen with or without our acknowledgement anyway.

We are missing life on the making. Cause in the end of the day, being different is part of life itself. And life never asks for our permission or acceptance. It just... happens. Like John Lennon said once, “Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans”. So, if by now you are thinking, how can we be the same yet different from each other and what life, leaves or Lennon have to do with it, I wouldn't blame you. Most probably, I'm to blame, confusing you with words. But here's the thing. There is one big (and I mean really big), small distinction that may help you understand where I'm going with this.

There is Same and then there is Similar and there is Equal. Same is not Similar nor Equal. There is no difference in Same. It cannot exist in that realm. Never could or ever will. If it could, then Same would not be, by definition. But there can be a great deal of difference in Similar and Equal. That's the key. No one can be different if we are all the same. But we are not the same. No one is the exact same like someone else. Similar maybe, but not Same. But all else aside, we all are born as equals. And that's why we can be different from each other.

Different among Equals...

The other day I went hiking to a local state park in Connecticut to do an estimated 3-4 mile round trip hike. A trifling hike if I was twenty five years old but enough of a challenge for my almost 67 year old legs. Never the less spending the day in a very nice and beautiful woodland ambiance was quite enjoyable and I came across many people who had their canine companions with them. Woodland hikers I say are some of the nicest people you can ever meet with friendly greetings from other senior hikers who know what our legs are going feel like the next day to respectful nods of acknowledgement from the younger hikers seeing someone who is old to be their parent or even grandparent persevering on a hiking trail as for many of my peers because of their physical decline through health problems, bad health habits and or lack of exercise the days where they can do miles on a hiking trail are long gone never to be seen again.

One of the greatest acknowledgements of the appreciation of Spanish Muslim architecture was the construction of the Alcázar of Seville (Reales Alcázares de Sevilla), a royal palace built under the orders of the Christian Castilian king Pedro in the mid-14th century. Heavily influenced by the grace and beauty of Alhambra in Granada, the Alcázar includes similar architectural styles, ornamentation, and patios as the Alhambra.

The Courtyard of the Maidens (Patio de las Doncellas) exemplifies this tradition well, though interestingly its look has evolved through time. This version of the courtyard reflects its original construction around 1334, but around 1580 the pool and gardens were buried and replaced by marble tiles and a fountain. An archeological excavation revealed the original gardens and pool in 2002, and in 2005 the original plan was restored as seen here.

The first floor building surrounding the patio is original construction of the Alcázar in the 14th century, while the upper floors were added in the mid-1550’s using a mix of Italian Renaissance and mudéjar styles during the reign of Charles V. A portion of the Alcázar is still used by the Spanish royal family as a seasonal residence.

While taking this snap a car stopped and the driver asked for directions. He was actually driving away from his desired destination! He was very glad he'd stopped to check if he was on the right road. Making a U-turn, he headed off in the opposite direction.

There's a word in the Bible that essentially means to make a U-turn. That word is "repentance", which is simply a turning from sin and a turning to God. It requires an acknowledgement that our sin is not just a problem for us, but it is an offence against Him.

Someone once noted that in order to go to hell, we just need to keep doing what we're doing. We simply need to stay on the road we're on. The problem is, that road will take us to hell and hell is not somewhere we really want to reach. In order to avoid it, we need to make a U-turn.

God... now commandeth all men every where to repent: because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world...

(Acts 17:30-31)

The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.

(Mark 1:15)

Smile on Saturday - Red Rules

Although this was sitting in my photo staging area, I thought it best to use for this week's theme. I was going to just go with some previous very red photo, but thought it best to get these ones that have been in wait a chance for some acknowledgement. That is a big word to type out.

Smile On Saturday

No true peace or prosperity until acknowledgement of and reckoning for genocide, slavery and racism.

Better days ahead?

The winds of change are blowing.

Time will tell.

Last chance to get it right.

Seems like I've been in the dark for a while, haven't picked up the camera since Christmas. Was fighting a pretty bad cold/flu that kicked the crap out of me.... but now I see the light and hopefully that will change with all the snow we are getting lately.... It is really piling up outside and you all know how I like snow. Taken with the 40D. Stay warm!

You don’t know what type of shoes the stranger next to you is riding in today. A simple acknowledgement of their presence and a smile could be all they need to turn their day around. Truth is most people are hanging by a thread—and our simple kindness can be that thread. Go easy, be kind to each other.

Previously unpublished shot from December 2019. Don't forget that my shots represent a split-second moment and are most often nothing more than a briefly passing expression of emotion. Most of my subjects exchange a smile or acknowledgement after I take a shot. Unease, however, is a fairly accurate word for the state of balance across Europe just now. Peace to all.

For me a walk around the city of York on a very wet night was a fine experience as it offered lots of shiny pavements and glistening lights. For passengers on this bus and the breakdown staff I don't suppose it would nave been too pleasant for them.

Not knowing anything about lorries or trucks I looked up a few basic details of this Scania on the DVLA vehicle registration record site. It was new in March 2008 and to be honest looks as good today as it would have done when it was first registered. What surprised me was the engine capacity, it is 15,600 cc. I know that trucks are huge compared to our personal use cars but that is a massive engine under that bonnet. Acknowledgement must go to the operators RRS Heavy Recovery for the condition of this 14 year old vehicle.

Boxing Day is a holiday celebrated on the day following Christmas Day in the United Kingdom and Commonwealth nations. Boxing Day occurs on 26 December,

The term "Christmas-box" dates back to the 17th century, and among other things meant:

A present or gratuity given at Christmas: in Great Britain, usually confined to gratuities given to those who are supposed to have a vague claim upon the donor for services rendered to him as one of the general public by whom they are employed and paid, or as a customer of their legal employer; the undefined theory being that as they have done offices for this person, for which he has not directly paid them, some direct acknowledgement is becoming at Christmas.

Wishing all of my flickr friends the very best in 2014, Thanks so much for all of the wonderful support you have given me in 2013, Thanks for all the group invites, awards and acknowledgements! Looking forward to being on this journey with you all in the year to come!

She'd known beauty, unconditional love. She had her place, stability in the spring. As the maiden, she'd known joy in the seeming endlessness of the unknown. It was only when she faced that vastness that she could truly grasp her womanhood. It's not just a step into the dark, but the acceptance of it. Acknowledgement of the duality within herself, as well as shedding the security of those comforts she knew so well.

I went for a very long walk along these rail tracks in Storkow, why? Because I wanted to know where they went and for the reasons that I allow curiosity to rule my world, there’s no law against that and I usually ignore signs stating this land is private, good for you pal, I’m about to make it famous!

However, I couldn’t believe my luck when I came up this very straight track, with the Sun setting EXACTLY in the right spot, plus the sky, I didn’t manipulate that, the clouds that evening were bizarre and frankly reminiscent of recent acknowledgements, that we are shifting to a new way of energy and the sky was responding to it. My only wish for the people of this realm is to join me on the right timeline, you’re running out of time!

I hope everyone is well and so as always, thank you! 😊

Excerpt from the plaque:

Railway City Little Free Library Kettle Creek Village: Before the name ‘St. Thomas’ took hold, the small settlement in this area was known as ‘Kettle Creek Village’, a reference to the waterway in the nearby valley. Daniel Rapelje was one of the original settlers and had a farm here, later laying out the plan of subdivision and making land available for the Church that was completed in 1824. Today, the Church is still standing and is referred to locally as the ‘Old St. Thomas Church’. After the Church opened, some visitors began referring to the community as “Saint Thomas’, which may have served also as an acknowledgement of Col. Thomas Talbot, the founder of the Talbot Settlement. Eventually, the post office in the area was named ‘St. Thomas’, and the name stuck. ‘Kettle Creek Village’ is the perfect name for this neighbourhood, recognizing the past as well as connecting to the waterway and ultimately the Great Lakes.

“Acceptance is not a sign of weakness. It's not a question of giving up or giving in. It is an acknowledgement that we all have our crosses to bear … our human struggle. What we choose to do about it is up to us. We have the gift of free will. As a child I was very accepting of the abuse and losses that I suffered. I knew no different. As a teenager I withdrew into myself and then I rebelled and fought against it all, but what I am learning now is that acceptance causes me less personal pain … it baffles those who seek to destroy my composure and in turn makes them question everything they thought they knew. In truth, if we discard everything we think we know and focus only on what we know to be true, we find we know so very little. There is much to learn and each of us has a different purpose … a personal spiritual journey. I believe we are here to learn from others and others may learn from us. In this quiet way we may arrive at mutual understanding and as my dearest Friend, Khaled, once told me, understanding is the first step towards love.” - AP

THE PROMISE – TRACY CHAPMAN

I promise I will return. For now I say au revoir, but not goodbye, all my love, Poppy xo

The purest heart among us

can play sweet music on a harp

with variations and vibrations

an angel's tenderness imparts

The smallest flower or tiny creature

can stay forever in our minds

with connotations and abstractions

impressing us with ideas kind

The lovingness of all mankind

seeps through our veins and warms the coals

with tremors and delicious trickles

it stokes our fires; our embered souls

The steps of time; the parallels

are drawn before we're born

the plan is made; the cavalcade

storms the castle and leaves us torn

The outcome is not always foretold

there's often something we can do

no need to suffer or seal our fate

the life that comes; it's up to you

The two things that spring to my mind

are patience and compassion

to exercise and exorcise

the former to practice; the latter not rationed

Love and only love my friends

can stop disease and hate

I want to give it unconditionally

Love is infinite; intelligence is not necessarily innate.
