Today I turned 37.
I hadn't planned of doing any celebration at all. Simply because I felt that I really had nothing to celebrate about. After all, my life can be said to have fallen in a steady decline over the last few years. The number 37 simply meant that I have made nothing of myself for the last 37 years.
I even shunned a few offers by kindly colleagues who invited me out for a drink. I really tried my best to explain to them that I really didn't feel like doing anything except to get back home and sleep.
But I came home to my Ex, who reaffirmed the reason why I love her so much. She waited to see me coming up the street and went to the kitchen to light the candles on a cake she bought earlier.
She sure surprised me. She got me some chocolate, flowers, a card and a top. I didn't expect something from her and it totally surprised me.
Funny thing is, I don't expect people to be nice to me. Even my Ex. I always feel that I have to 'do something' to get something in return. My Ex disproved that.
As I write this, a pizza is baking in the oven. I feel confident enough to eat half of it. With a little cake and some chocolates to go with it.
Perhaps today, I won't go to bed with a hole in my chest.

Mommy: you know, years ago there was a very nice man. he was an older white man (INFJ), who’d come to our house and mow our lawn for a very good price. Daddy hired him because he already mows a lot of peoples lawns and since he was here, it was perfect. The man mowed our lawn for a fair price. He was always on time, did his work well, and helped us a lot. i don’t think he needed the money, i really don’t think he needed the money. he did it as a good use of time. most people charge a lot for lawn mowing, especially with everything getting more and more expensive.
[in Kim’s head]: it also probably made your Daddy feel special because he’s a black man and there was a white man mowing our lawn. on the next episode of your dad’s going to yell about how he’s still a black man in a white mans world. or yell at me about something i did in the past BEFORE i even met him. UGH!

Mommy: that’s fine too, then you guys are his great-grandchildren!

Mommy: he was a very nice man. he was kind and helpful to Daddy and Mommy.
