After spending the entire day hunting fall colors around Big Bear Lake I noticed that the only trees that looked to be at peak were the non-indiginous ones that were purchased and planted. I found this tree along the main drive and it looked to me to be confused and yet glorious in all it's shades of color which were highlighted by the piercing blue of the sky behind. I sat and stared then after a while I felt at peace and understood. Humanity has entered a time of profound change and we are all pushed by necessity and pulled by opportunity.
The push is a growing systems crisis, evident in the breakdown of financial institutions, climate change, resource depletion, unsustainable populations, and more.
The pull is the opportunity to rise to a new level of human maturity, partnership, and freedom. The combined push and pull at a global scale make this truly a time of profound turning and transformation for humanity. These powerful trends are all represented here in this one tree.
Thanks for taking the time to take a look at my photos, and as always, your views, comments, faves, and support are greatly appreciated!! Have a great evening everybody!! :)

In Victorian times, Shad Thames included the largest warehouse complex in London. Completed in 1873, the warehouses housed huge quantities of tea, coffee, spices and other commodities, which were unloaded and loaded onto river boats.
During the 20th century the area went into decline as congestion and containerization forced shipping to unload goods further east, and the last warehouses closed in 1972.
Many artists lived in the area in the 1970s (presumably due to the low cost of living there), reportedly including David Hockney and Derek Jarman.
Shad Thames was regenerated in the 1980s and 1990s, when the disused but picturesque warehouses throughout the area were converted into expensive flats, many with restaurants, bars, shops, etc. on the ground floor.

The Journey by Mary Oliver
One day you finally knew
what you had to do, and began,
though the voices around you
kept shouting
their bad advice–
though the whole house
began to tremble
and you felt the old tug
at your ankles.
“Mend my life!”
each voice cried.
But you didn’t stop.
You knew what you had to do,
though the wind pried
with its stiff fingers
at the very foundations,
though their melancholy
was terrible.
It was already late
enough, and a wild night,
and the road full of fallen
branches and stones.
But little by little,
as you left their voices behind,
the stars began to burn
through the sheets of clouds,
and there was a new voice
which you slowly
recognized as your own,
that kept you company
as you strode deeper and deeper
into the world,
determined to do
the only thing you could do–
determined to save
the only life you could save.

The ocean and the art of transformation ~ Given something broken, it will make it something beautiful
from the bud to the flower in Eustoma plants. The buds and the flower are on the same stalk. Photographed indoor. In the wild the Eustoma species are known as lisianthus or prairie gentian and belong to the Gentian family. They are native to warm regions of the American continent. Bath, England
The black turnstone is slowly getting its Summer plumage. I noticed among other things that the white patch they have in their face is getting much prominent. I have been able recently to photograph them in "mutation" but I have not had a chance to process these pictures yet... I am way behind in my processing and posting... but will try to dig a picture with the Summer markings before the end of Summer or perhaps I should say before the beginning of Summer, which ever comes first :)

The wind is constantly blowing at the dunes. Each day, the footprints on the dunes are smoothed away. Each day, the dunes are reshaped. It is dusty, but beautiful. 20230618SossusvleiDune.jpg
Pancake ice fascinates me. An example is this capture taken at the end of a Ross Sea crossing (beyond latitude 77º south) as we approached the Antarctica land mass. Almost immediatedlly the frigid sea ice began to freeze and forming pancake ice.
"Nature will bear the closest inspection. She invites us to lay our eye level with her smallest leaf, and take an insect view of its plain."
Henry David Thoreau
While taking an early morning walk today, I spied this leaf at my feet. I promised I'd return and the leaf waited for me. Bliss!

We had the first nocturnal storm and a sharp drop in temperatures.
It seems that August has kept its promises, arguing a bit with September coming in tonight ....
September for me is like the first month of the year.
The new year begins today ....

"Transformation is a process, and as life happens there are tons of ups and downs. It's a journey of discovery - there are moments on mountaintops and moments in deep valleys of despair."
Quote - Rick Warren
She was once a sparkling Rosebay Willowherb
In all her pink and purple skirts she has been living her happy life
Dancing in the wind
Being cherished by the ones that passed her
Now, it's colder days and she is transforming
Can you see it?
She has become a bird
Folding her wings around her
Her beak is shut
Her feather is fluffy
Looks like the breeze is all around her
She is satisfied with this life
She has accomplished everything she wanted
Love has surrounded her
She has been so cherished
She can fly off now
The light is there
Ready for her
Welcome
Fun fact; one Rosebay produces 20000 seeds
