Orange Tip butterflies rarely settle but this one, albeit at an awkward angle, did. This spot in York was teeming with them and several paused.
Looks like someone backed their chariot up to this part of the forest and dumped these stones which they had left over from building a viaduct somewhere

Thanks Daisy for the correction. You are quite right that this is the Falcate Orange-tip. My book points out that the Falcate has a hook on its wing tips which is clearly visible.
shhh. can you hear it? well...if the crane wasn't running, you could hear the boat creaking, the birds calling and the water lapping.
