As a child, I was very comfortable picking up worms and frogs I'd find before gently replacing them on the ground. I'm assuming my fear of spiders was something I learned from the grown-ups in my life. For something that small to make an adult shriek and run in terror must mean that spiders were dangerous. This learned fear gradually changed over time....and now I find that spiders are some of my favorite macrophotography friends. It is good to make new friends!
Tiny Terror - After mating with the female in the previous image, the male flew to a low branch very close to me before heading out to hunt again and bringing back a Western Fence Lizard. I always wanted a close up of a pygmy owl on a clear perch and finally got my wish 9 years after my first sighting in Oregon in February 2014. As with all my owl images, no playback ever used, this male was just that indifferent to our presence.

Taken inside one of the 'Housing' units at Auschwitz II or Birkenau, as it was known as. These shelves, were used by families as their quarters.
It is so hard to try and understand and imagine what conditions were like for those held here. Today, these buildings sever as a reminder of those dark days.
Lets hope the message is never forgotten.

ENG: A visit to the "Day of Remembrance of the Victims of National Socialism" in the documentation center "Topography of Terror" near Potsdamer Platz in Berlin.
The Topography of Terror is a project in Berlin that has existed since 1987 to document and deal with terror during the period of National Socialism in Germany, especially during the period of rule from 1933 to 1945.
This picture is not intended to make a political statement, it serves only as a photographic work of art.

Tokyo’s Tower of Terror has you visiting the fictional Hotel Hightower. The hotel used to be occupied by Harrison Hightower a rich collector who traveled the globe obtaining and sometimes stealing precious artifacts. One day on a trip to Africa he found a mysterious idol who eventually came to life causing Mr. Hightower’s elevator to come crashing to the ground.
I had one of those nights when you just can't fall asleep because of the feeling that there is somebody in the room....This is what i get for watching 2 horror movies in a row! It was fun though :) Have a nice day everyone!

Tiny Terror - Northern Pygmy-Owl heading out to hunt. Had an amazing encounter with a pair of this species hiking the Los Padres National Forest at dawn this past Spring. Thought I'd mix things up with all the Bobcats I've been posting lately. After wildcats, owls, eagles, falcons, etc. are my favorite subjects.
