"I think I shall never see a poem as lovely as a tree."

Joyce Kilmer, U.S. poet ~ 1886-1919

***

Walking yesterday in my neighborhood I had to run back to the house for my camera....subdued photographic light...

The colorful sugar maples are slow to lose their leaves..

Warm autumnal temperatures still....this is a glorious year!

Thank you for your visit, may the week be going well for you....

The leaves of the Sugar Maple (Acer saccharum) in their autumnal glory. The sugar maple is native to eastern part of the North America and is the primary source of maple syrup. Old Arboretum, Westonbirt near Tetbury, South Gloucestershire, England, UK.

I saw this tree while out running errands today, and it was so pretty that I drove a loop to come back to it & get it's portrait.

Happy Fall 'ya all 🍁💛🍂

(song by the Clash, 1981)

Trees were just beginning to change to fall colors in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. This sugar maple tree had a few patches of multicolored leaves, (as if it was unsure that it was time to change ; -)).

Seen at Lower Tahquamenon Falls, Michigan.

This Sugar Maple, infested with spindle-shaped leaf galls, was beginning to show fall color.

The "Maple Spindle Gall" condition is due to an army of mites (Vasates aceriscrumena) that have set up housekeeping on the upper surface of the leaves. Each gall, produced by the leaf in response to the feeding mite, contains one female mite that feeds on the leaf and lays eggs within the gall. Though the galls are very unsightly, the mites do not usually kill the host plant.

Michigan was ablaze with fall color. There were the reds of Sugar Maple, yellows of Birch, and Maples, browns and coppers of Oaks and deep green of various conifers. And, the best way to enjoy them was to get off of the main highways and onto "country roads".

Beautiful day for a walk through the woods.

this row of trees is always a spectacular start to Fall

HCS & HTMT!!

Canada Maple, has opposite deciduous leaves, with deep veins, from three to five-lobed and up to 13 cm long; the lobes, slightly incised, are separated by obtuse angles. Dark green in colour, in autumn they take on shades of brilliant gradations from golden yellow to orange, up to crimson and scarlet; the most spectacular moult occurs in the northern part of the range, where there is the right alternation of sunny days and cold nights.

Some excellent things have happened too, but I'm happy to move on from the dispute with our landlord and the worst period of insomnia of my life. Both isssues aren't completely resolved but moving in the right direction. On the other hand, I lost 32 pounds. The latest blood tests show my blood sugar and cholesterol have returned to normal from not so good in October 2021. On Monday my doctor called me a "rock star" In the diabetes category. I haven't felt much interest in walking until this week. My sleep and energy are gradually, hopefully improving. The sunshine and slightly above freezing temperatures don't hurt.

My favourite months are March, May, and August - March because of the fast growth of daylight, the inevitable thaw, the mud, no looking back, and all of spring ahead.

You can now come along on all my hikes with me! Every week I take to the trails and come back with a lot of footage. You can find me here (or on the trails!) www.youtube.com/channel/UCP7tyb8jDXxXWrla7y_FhfA

This elegant home is in Guelph's Exhibition Park neighbourhood. The light and colours caught my attention. Suddenly I realize I attended a meeting in this very same house almost a decade later. However, we entered from the back so I didn't recognize it as the same house until now. Funny how threads cross.

I'm sorting old photos and posting some interesting ones. This image was uploaded to Flickr on Dec. 25, 2021.

(This photo was taken just a few weeks ago, and now this tree is almost completely bare of its leaves. We’re expecting snow tomorrow... Happy Halloween, everyone!)

In the morning light, the leaves of the sugar maple are robust with color. Some of the tree is still green on one side, but I managed to get this photo by leaning out our bedroom window.

The weather here has been incredible this week... sunshine, blue skies and temperatures in the mid-80''s(F), very unusual for October but oh-so-perfect to be outdoors enjoying the autumn medley of color. I collected some leaves on my walk last night and these were my favorites.

Just going out on a limb here, so to speak, and identifying this as Acer saccharum (sugar maple).

Autumn in the graveyard - HCS!

one of the Maples on the driveway is still going strong - HFF!

This giant old maple produces great color every Autumn. This tree has survived old age and storm damage, both resulting in large parts dying and being pruned away . Some of these branches have been gathered and stacked at the base of the tree for firewood. Word has it that the upcoming Winter will be cold.
