Jon Stewart & Stephen Colbert Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear Washington D.C. 10-30-2010
The event was held in front of the U.S. Capitol Building on the east end of the National Mall in Washington D.C. and drew approximately 215,000 thousand people. The Rally application for a permit to the National Park Service listed they hoped for an attendance at the combined event of about 25,000 people. News reports claim this rally was a satirical response to Glenn Beck's Restoring Honor rally and Al Sharpton's Reclaim the Dream rally.
Jon Stewart announced the "Rally to Restore Sanity" on the September 16, 2010 of The Daily Show, Stephen Colbert announced the "March to Keep Fear Alive" on the The Colbert Report the same day.
Oprah Winfrey appeared on The Daily Show and gave the attending audience all free airline tickets to the rally. Stephen Colbert gave his audience gusts free Chinatown bus tickets to the rally.

I went to the rally in D.C. today, there was a gigantic crowd, had to be at least 200,000, they whole event was great and the message was one that we should all pay heed too. The man who owns this sign was attacked by a grizzley bear a couple of years ago. He was chewed on a bit, but is fine. It appears he has a sense of humor about his Grizzley encounter. This sign is in the Big Horn Basin of Wyoming
Stephen tried to lead the crowd with the Seminole War Chant which consists doing something called the Tomahawk Chop (holding your arm out straight in front of you with your elbow bent at a 90 degree angle and making a chopping motion) and chanting "ohhh oh ooohhh". He didn't quite have it right, but the crowd sort of took over and then he said "I don't want to tell you how to do your own racist chant."
He noted that at FSU they have the "War Chant" and "Spear It Day" ... so Stephen came up with his own slogan to go along with the racist theme.
I don't understand how these people can look so bored. Don't they know they're in the presence of greatness? This is the No. 1 reason the history museum reopened, people! To give this portrait a permanent home!
Finally, after months of searching (and a short stint across town), Colbert's portrait has a wall of its very own at the American History Museum.
The congressman's Twitter failure was highly publicized on television, especially on comedy shows. Twitter received a great deal of attention on these shows, and was often integrated into the shows.
