Istra river and colors of autumn.

Istra is a river in the Moscow region of Russia, a left tributary of the Moscow River. Together with the reservoir formed on the river, it is part of the water supply system of the city of Moscow. In the middle of the 17th century, the Moscow Patriarch Nikon was named Jordan.

The first mention of the Istra River dates back to 1461 and is contained in the spiritual letter of the Grand Duke Vasily Vasilyevich.

The length is 113 km, the area of the basin, which includes about 190 watercourses with a total length of 885 km, is 2050 km². The width of the river in the lower reaches is 17-30 meters, the depth is 1.0-1.5 meters, the speed of the current is 0.1-0.3 m / s, the bottom is sandy. Ichthyofauna is represented by such fish species as roach, bleak, dace, minnow, ruff, perch, bream; chub, gudgeon, char, ide, asp are found in catches below the Istra hydroelectric complex. The river is popular with hikers and water tourists. On the river is the city of Istra, as well as numerous settlements, sanatoriums and rest houses.

The Resurrection New Jerusalem Monastery is located on the river.

In 1885, the artist Isaac Levitan came to Istra for sketches and was struck by the beauty of these places.

Thanks to all who take the time to visit and comment on my photo stream....it's greatly appreciated. Also for all of the invitations to join or post my photos into groups!

Taken from a moving bus. Patagonia, Argentina.

Travelling in Kyrgyzstan often involved long road journeys, but some of the scenery was wonderful, This was between Tash Rabat and Naryn.

The Elizabethtown Industrial Railroad is a 1.5 mile spur branching off the Amtrak main at Conewago, operated using a chop-nose GP9u in CTR colors. There is only so much scenery you can find on a short, straight, and flat stretch of track, so despite staying not far from the area, I've put the railroad on a backburner while waiting for a day with favorable weather conditions. Last weekend's very-late winter snowstorm finally made that happen with temps just below freezing making for a sticky snow-caused winter wonderland. Some of the low-hanging trees fall victim to CTR 1650 as it pulls a tank car of byproduct environmental waste to the NS interchange. The load originated from Crystal Clean, the railroad's only customer seeing service about twice a month.

It was -16º with a wind-chill of -27º this morning but I wouldn't have it any other way!!

Taken with my cell phone. Lesson learned - MUST walk with a real camera at ALL times

This Divie Viaduct was designed by Joseph Mitchell to carry the Inverness and Perth Junction Ralway across the deep valley of the River Divie. It opened on 9 September 1863 and remains in useas a public trail known as the Dava way.

The Dava Way is a 38-kilometre long-distance path that mostly follows the route of the former Highland Railway between Grantown and Forres. The railway line, built as a route between Inverness and Perth, opened in 1863 and closed in 1965. The route was reopened as a long distance path in 2005. It is listed as one of Scotland's Great Trails by NatureScot, and links directly to two further Great Trails: the Moray Coast Trail and the Speyside Way. It is currently the shortest of the Great Trails, but can be combined with sections of the Moray Coast Trail and Speyside Way to form a 153-kilometre circular route known as the Moray Way.
