It was a bright sunny day and the light was too strong for the shot. Not what I wanted, but a decent shot! Better luck next time.

Another shot from last year's birding season. This Montagu's Harrier used to loiter around the lake bed hunting for insects - usually the large short horned grasshoppers which were found in plenty. Here she hunted one, consumed the insect and rested for a minute before taking off.

This year Montagu's are hard to find somehow. Though Pallid Harriers seem to be thriving and are easy to sight along with Western Marsh Harriers.

The royal cenotaph of kings and queens of Bikaner, Rajasthan India, build near a serene lake.

Older cenotaphs are made up of red sandstone whereas the newer ones are made of white marble. Male members’ cenotaphs have a memorial slab, females’ have foot-prints and the minors’ are a simple structure without a canopy.

Death may not distinguish between the lives but these memorials make all the difference.

She interrupted her meal - some large insect which can be seen at her feet - to give me this piercing look. I was close and taking photographs. But given her reaction, I switched off the car and slid back to my seat with the camera. She relaxed and continued her meal uninterrupted again.

Banasura Sagar Dam, which impounds the Karamanathodu tributary of the Kabini River, is part of the Indian Banasurasagar Project consisting of a dam and a canal project. In the dam's reservoir there are a set of islands that were formed when the reservoir submerged the surrounding areas. The islands with the Banasura hills in the background provide a spectacular view. It is the largest earth dam in India and the second largest of its kind in Asia. The dam is made up of massive stacks of stones and boulders.

Jal Mahal (meaning "Water Palace") is a palace located in the middle of the Man Sagar Lake in Jaipur city, the capital of the state of Rajasthan, India. The palace and the lake around it were renovated and enlarged in the 18th century by Maharaja Jai Singh II of Amber.

Built to be a pleasure palace for the royal family in 1799, Jal Mahal Palace is an extremely romantic place with its red sandstone intricate architecture casting beautiful reflections in the calm waters of the Man Sagar Lake, full of hyacinths. Surrounded by Nahargarh Hills, Jal Mahal is known for its majestic architecture and sophisticated design. It was once used for the royal duck shooting parties. It has also been home to one of the prime ministers of Jaipur estate. Set opposite the cenotaphs of the royal family, the first four floors of Jal Mahal is under water and only the top floor is above the water level. The lake eco system is a favorite home of a number of migratory and resident birds.

Man Sagar Lake is an artificial lake just to the north of Jaipur city. Where the Jal Mahal sits in the middle and apparently is five stories high, which must mean in this photo there is quite a bit of it submerged.
