Cape Otway Lighthouse, Great Ocean Road, Victoria, Australia. At the southern tip of the continent guiding the ships into safe passage to the city of Melbourne ca. 100 kms (62 miles) away. It was established in 1848 on these towering sea cliffs 90 metres above where Bass Straight (between the Australian mainland and the island Australian state of Tasmania) and the Southern Ocean merge (which goes on down to the Antarctica).

The photo also suggests an analogy for safe passage through the turbulent 'waters' of the current pandemic and wishes you hope and light at the end of the tunnel.

And I hope I can find the courage to speak / When there's something that needs being said / And I hope that my words will not tear us apart / But to bring people closer instead / And I hope all this useless killing will stop / I hope that the hatred will slow / I hope there's a calm come over the hand / Of the one's who have anger to show / And I hope that the families displaced by war / Find a country so brave and so bold / To let down their guards and open their arms / To the one's who have nowhere to go (Joe Purdy)

A simple pile of stones seems to be a world-wide phenomenon. Here is a simple example of one on the Kiso Road (hiking trail) in Japan.

Located off Highway 1 on the coast of California. A great location to get way from the very high Air Quality Index plaguing the San Francisco Bay Area last week due to Northern California wildfires. www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=533

I can't remember where I heard it (and who knows if this is even true), but a long time ago I heard that when sailors used to leave for weeks at a time, their wives used to put a figurine ship on the mantle. They felt if they could keep that figurine safe, their husbands would be safe too.

This was a photo I made for Veterans day, in honor of those that have gone overseas, and especially for those that never made it back.

The Point Bonita Lighthouse was built in 1855 to mark the entrance of the San Francisco Bay for Sailors coming from the South. Read more about it here. See location here.

So after I walked through the tunnel shown in my previous picture, I continued like 1/4 mile and this is the view of the deteriorating bridge and lighthouse. I would love to go back and experience the view in a clear summer day. The view must be spectacular. All I saw was fog during my short visit! :(

TGIF!

Go ahead, make your day!

NOTE:

-NO HDR, one photo.

-I processed this photo with LR and I simply used a LR preset called "Focus: Dramatic sky" *FREE*

-It was a very cloudy/foggy day when I took this picture.

- I just installed the newest Adobe Creative Suite 4 Master Collection. Everything looks so different. I am lost! :)

Behold the breathtaking vista of the Venice, Florida Inlet, a crystal-clear, deepwater passage connecting the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway with the majestic Gulf of Mexico. The tranquil scene showcases the entrance to the Venice and Nokomis waterfront communities.

Dear you,

What at first seemed ludicrous, why it naturally feels less so now. A tricky pose to hold, I grant you, but, well, with little other choice, 'twas my only way of passage. Front right paw could do with a stretch but they tell me we will be in Oslo soon. Sweet relief is the prospect!

Fountain pen in mouth no way to write (even for this ol' snow leopard) and the boat she is rickety.

Hold that position,

twitch not,

X

Front and back,

What at first seemed ludicrous...

Imaginary trouble is real after all...

Head up the mountain trail you will find a gate. Go through and you will find safe passage to...more stairs. Go up those stairs to the gatehouse. Enter the gatehouse and you will find... more stairs. go up those stairs and you will find your destination, Hoshijinja(star temple).

Real directions to a real place. I would not classify it as disused but it sure does not get used very often. Due to the amount of large debris on the narrow road up there it was obvious that no vehicles had been there in months. Not my favorite shot but it was good to get out after 5 months off and shake off the ring rust. I forgot about all the creepy crawlies and even suffered a nasty bite on my ankle by some unknown. It has left me with a slight limp and a moderate swelling.

The West Side Lumber Shay engine wound it's way across the High Bridge slowly; this duplicate of the original is more substantial. It seems all made it across, even the gal in the red shirt hanging out of the cab. More substantial than the Lobato testle on the CATS tourist line that sens the engime and helper across separately or the bridge on the DSP&PRR branch to Leavick, south of ForePlay in South Park. Neither the engineer or coalman would cross that bridge with the engine and resulted in some imaginative operations. Here the Shay engine displays its business side, vertical pistons and driven shaft. Actually, the operation from Georgetown to Silver Plume has not lost any patrons. Good thing, the state's insurance would go up.

The scenic Georgetown Loop Railroad, the GerBiL Line (GB&L), backed down to the lower terminal to drop passengers and swap the motive power to the front end. Don't ask why; there is no wye! This is the spot Eddie chose to climb to (even though the road goes beneath the bridge); you choose your own. A lot of pixels were flipped on this spot, I'd say! The golden color on the far mountain initially had me fooled until I realized it was not yellow aspen but taillings from old test bores. It looks like a good time is being had by all but that wide glide better watch out while viewing the camera display; she probably would not bounce off the asphalt below and I'd have to clean my camera and shirt. Here, the Eddie party just arrived down in Georgetown, Colorado and had a successful exercise of getting Eddie's Magic Underwear changed after the radical trek over Guano Pass with him driving while trying collectively to pop ear drums. Dang, and all along, I thought that underwear ought to have some kind of magic and here it really didn't! I think he ate too many gummy bears & M&Ms while driving! If only we all had the necessary talent required to wound his pride!

We were on a quest for the "High Bridge" at Georgetown, Colorado so it was, of course, up to me to point Eddie in the right direction. He can get lost on his own time and with Olivia calling him a "noodle," HE could lose all track of HIS attention. So much for a quiet afternoon discussion and train spotting. We spun around the parking area and found just the spot where we wanted to shoot the "High Bridge." Who'd of thunk it? Eddie originally thought it was impossible to get to it but (whoosh) here we are parked next to the road under the very bridge. What can I expect next for gooness sake?

Edward had his sights set on Como and then up Boreas Pass, expecting aspen. As usual, his mind wandered, well... most of what's there anyway. We ended up at the Como Cemetery and up Boreas Pass before he decide to investigate Guano Pass and Georgetown. No "B" ball players spotted all afternoon. Perhaps you are familiar with THIS Georgetown, Hotel de Paree? Another Colorado narrow gauge railroad and mining town of some importance. We got the best of the season packed onto our camera cards in one - "Flying Eddie Day."

Edwarski learned they will be running the Georgetoon Loop train into November. It's beginning to look like the State Historical Society could finally make some money on something. Next our autumn focus will be on the prairie flats down below.

I wonder if these tiny creatures that stayed around all Summer giving me much pleasure and many telephoto shots, have any idea that they've got a big ol' human friend wishing them safe passage on their long and dangerous migratory journey? Godspeed little dudes. See you next Spring!

If you were around Gendarmenmarkt a few days ago, you saw something quite spectacular. World-renowned chinese artist Ai Weiwei turned the columns of Konzerthaus Berlin into something different.

This is an assembly of 18 photos by press photographer Dimitris Tosidis taken in the course of the multi-day events «Άνθρωποι που φεύγουν, άνθρωποι που έρχονται» ("People who get underway, people who come through") held by the Citizens' Movement of Raches Ikaria from 3 to 8 March 2019 on the occasion of the recent climax of the refugee and "undocumented" migration flows heading from the Greek-Turkish borders to the islands of the Northeastern Aegean Sea.

The events included:

1) Sharing of experiences and impressions from the coverage of the refugee crisis at the Greek borders since 2014 by Dimitris Tosidis.

2) Lecture by Dimos Mavridis, head of the high school of Evdilos, on the critical condition of Ikaria during WWII and the massive exodus of refugees from the island, who ironically followed the same route in the opposite direction as today's refugees: Greece - Turkey - Syria (Aleppo) etc.

3) Testimonies by several surviving Ikarians who had fled the island in 1942-43 about their adventures as refugees in the Middle East and Africa.

4) Sharing of experiences by the Ikarian surf teacher and trained sea rescuer, Isidoros Plytas from the days (and nights) he spent rescuing and assisting modern-day refugees at the shores of Lesvos island, off the Greek-Turikish border in the Aegean.

5) Viewing of the Italian documentary «Comme il Peso dell'Acqua» ("Like the Weight of Water") by Andrea Segre about the migrations across the Mediterranean in the years 2011-14, followed by a discussion with the director who was invited to the events.

6) An exhibition of photos by Dimitris Tosidis and other press photographers who covered the refugee crisis in Greece, under the title «Άνθρωποι και σύνορα / Ζωές και γραμμές» ("People and Borders / Lives and Lines").

7) An exhbition of old documents, historical photos and many dozens of printed pages with testimonies by Ikarian refugees to the Middle East in the WWII period.

Although held in almost wintertime, the events were very succesful. The organizers were happy to see so many Ikarians attend and grasp the message. That last was stated perfectly well by Andrea Segre in the discussion after the end of his documentary, phrased as the following question:

«Who claims the right to deny the right from people to travel?»

«Who forbids them to move and settle to other lands?»

Art installation outside Berlin's Konzerthaus. Chinese artist and activist Ai Weiwei has wrapped the Berlin landmark in 14000 lifejackets in memory of drowned refugees . The lifejackets have been donated by the mayor of the Greek island of Lesbos.

The work coincides with the annual Cinema for Peace gala which is part of the Berlin Film Festival.

On Friday, August 19th, 2022, as I was enduring day 14th of my 4th-Hunger Strike outside the #UNHCR office, I once again decided on going to the #AustralianEmbassy in order to request Asylum and urgent mediation for ending this ongoing Hostage taking and my complete deprivation in Greece.

But I was not even allowed to enter the building, let alone speak with a representative from the Embassy.

About a dozen Police officers arrived at the scene shortly, took me to the Syntagma Police Station and kept me detention there for 2-hours before letting me go.

In #Greece they are aiming to starve me to death and cover the whole thing up.

If you are Australian, please ask your government, your representatives in the Parliament and/or in the Senate of #Australia to act with sympathy, understanding and compassion in responding to this pressing #Humanitarian appeal as urgently as possible.

Tents surrounding the railroad tracks

From what I could tell, there were definitely hundreds of people and vehicles that showed up and it probably went well into the thousands by the starting time. This created an hours-long traffic jam on State Street into the Chicago Loop from 26th Street near the South Loop.
