London promenades
Chelsea SW3
Most 19th century houses have a spot of garden at the back which one cannot see from the street. The elevation round the back is an example of architectural serindipity, usually adhoc additions of bathrooms and loos and those ubiquitous downpipes all over the place.

Physic Garden SW3
the "Handkerchief tree" or "the Dove Tree", or "Ghost Tree", Davidia Involucrata flowers in May or June - here in the Physic garden with its milder microclimate due to the presence of teh Thames River it flowers a few weeks earlier, in April.
The huge, white bracts hang like handkerchiefs (or flutter like Doves) from the branches.
Thirty-seven seeds were originally sent back from China in 1869, but only one grew.
A further expedition was made to collect more seed which turned out to be from a different variety. The difference being in the colour of the buds and the under-surface of the leaves
