Can you find beauty in pain? If you have no choice, but to be in pain. Is there something you can be grateful for? Is there beauty, even in darkness? If there’s a dark cloud over you, can we still be grateful for this moment; with all its darkness and the unknown.
You’re already on medications and taking active steps to better your physical health. If there’s going to be a dark cloud over you every day, we can start to embrace it. Instead of shunning it away or looking at it as something to be ashamed of. When you start mapping out your mood throughout the day, you’ll realize that you’re not sad all day. It’s up, down, and levels off. If we’re going to have a dark cloud over us each day, we’ll observe it and make it our friend. We won’t speak badly of it, it just is. We don’t have to be extremely happy and giddy people, at all points of time. This is how we are right now, and we’re ok with that.
Now, Barbie girl over there looks incredibly happy right? Right. So when you look over there at her life, and then you look at yours. You start feeling bad for yourself, like you’re the victim and get angry at that dark cloud, again. Which comes, every day; when it wants to. We can embrace it and make it our friend, or get angry at it again because we want to be just like Barbie girl and have what she has. She always looks so happy and has lots of friends. We start getting upset at ourselves and jealous of her, because we think we want what she has. Not knowing, that Barbie is not always that happy and also feels lonely. Even with all the people around her. The dark cloud hovers over her head too, she just treats it differently. So when you look over there, and everyones “happy,”“super excited,” and “having the time of their life.” Know that they experience similar emotions, as you.
Each of us are built differently, so one person may overcome their dark cloud quicker than another. Some may not even feel a dark cloud. But for us, it’s ok to be the way we are. We’re already doing our best. With the meds, breathing exercises, stretching, special diet, and Communication therapy. It’s ok if people don’t understand why we are, the way we are. We don’t have to force ourselves on others. The right people will circle around you and like you despite your dark cloud. You’ll find a group, where each of you can start talking about some of the reasons you feel the dark cloud appears. You’ll start to realize some similarities among your group, and learn that; sadness, pain, hurt, and anger are emotions like any other.
We celebrate optimism, happiness, health, excitement, and laughter; and look down on the other emotions, calling them bad and evil. But in reality, if you’re human; you will experience all these emotions. When you look at someone else’s highlight reel (ie. social media) and are sitting under a dark cloud, it’s easy to start feeling jealous of the other person and sorry for yourself.
I’d take long breaks from social media and stick to your work, watch a movie, listen to some music, play an instrument, play your favorite sport, quickly check your e-mails, read a book, take a nice walk, listen to the birds, call a friend, pet your dog/cat/snake. Sit with a warm cup of tea and look at the trees. Enjoy a beautiful sunset. Being grateful for everything you have and the life you’ve been given, which may be different than Barbies. But that’s ok, you don’t have to be Barbie and Barbie doesn’t have to be you. You may not fully understand eachother, but we can try. You both can live in this world, in peace.

This man forced us to hold his bird. We reluctantly did and then promptly employed the trusty Purell...
My desk set. I mod podged coordinating paper onto a bottle of Purell and an empty soup can (to use as a pencil holder) and embellished appropriately.
All the necessary stuff...Purell, switchboard, baby pics, flowers...browsing through the Red Cross website as I've got to give blood in a week.
