Vatnsnes peninsula, a wild and uninhabited finger of land on the eastern side of Húnaflói known for its superb views out over the bay towards the needle-sharp peaks of the Strandir coast in the West Fjords.

The happy life does not mean loving what we possess, but possessing what we love. Possession of what we love takes place in an act of cognition, in seeing, in intuition, in contemplation.

This is another shot from our trip to the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State last September. I'm having fun digging through the archives. When I zoomed right into the orginal image, I could see that she was holding a shell, not a cell :)

Kirkjufell mountain and the coastal road near the town of Grundarfjörður, on the north coast of Snæfellsnes peninsula, Iceland.

Kirkjufell (Icelandic: Church Mountain) is a 463 m high mountain. This beautiful landmark is the most photographed mountain in Iceland. Its isolated position jutting out into the sea makes it a focal point for tourists and seamen alike. Surrounded by beaches, Kirkjufell has a lovely walking trail around it as well as a more challenging climb up to the top where bird and fish fossils can be found.

The Robberg Hiking Trail is probably one of the most popular and well known trails in the area of Plettenberg Bay and also one of the most scenic. The route is a circular trail along the Robberg peninsula with two shorter variations available ranging from easy to moderate.

This Adelie Penguin looks very happy to have his own ice island. Taken from a zodiac near Paulet Island, which is a circular island off the north-east end of the Antarctic Peninsula. It is a popular tourist stop because of the large Adelie Penguin colony. This was the fifth penguin 🐧 species that we saw.

I have been away for a few days so will catch up with everyone.

Thank you for your visit and comments. They are very much appreciated.

The 800-year-old lighthouse is the oldest operational lighthouse in the world, build by Knight William Marshal. A coal fire beacon was first used to guide ships.

Wenn man ans Meer kommt

soll man zu schweigen beginnen

bei den letzten Grashalmen

soll man den Faden verlieren

und den Salzschaum

und das scharfe Zischen des Windes einatmen

und ausatmen

und wieder einatmen

Wenn man den Sand sägen hört

und das Schlurfen der kleinen Steine

in langen Wellen

soll man aufhören zu sollen

und nichts mehr wollen wollen nur Meer

Nur Meer

I love the wonderful little fishing village of Arnarstapi because it offers so many opportunities to capture some stunning locations. One of my favourites is this beautiful white house that nestles in the shadow of the volcano of Snaefellsnes. The coastline sea stacks are rugged and full of character. Arnarstapi has a very small fishing harbour and these wonderful snow covered sea stacks create a dramatic scene.

A rocky peninsula, the home of a cormorant rookery, exends into the fog and surf, Point Lobos State Reserve.

This rocky peninsula is a kind of “land’s end” feature at Point Lobos. It extends out into the ocean where the west and north shores meet, and it is often a place to observe big surf. Even on this relatively quiet day the waves were washing over the lower slopes of the feature. If you look closely you can spot scores of cormorants on the center and right sides — this is a cormorant rookery, and most of the birds are juveniles waiting for the next feeding from their parents.

Conditions on this morning were my favorite at this location — drifting fog thick enough to obscure distant subjects but shallow enough to sometimes produce some translucent and slightly directional light. I paused at this spot and remained for some time as the fog increased and decreased. Ironically, after all of that waiting, the first photograph I made turned out to have the most interesting light!
