This is the Paulding Quarry in far-northwestern Ohio. The quarry opened in 1949 and the rocks are used to make cement on-site. The target unit is the Middle Devonian Dundee Limestone.
The upper part of the quarry wall seen here consists of interbedded fossiliferous limestones and shales of the Middle Devonian Silica Formation. The fossils are typical mid-Paleozoic marine invertebrates such as brachiopods, bryozoans, corals, crinoids, and trilobites. Below the Silica is the Dundee Limestone, which lacks interbedded shales.

Uploaded these images at work, as Ann and I still have no power. As I sad previously, it could have been a lot worse for us! These folks lost a lot more than power. I took these photos as we drove to Ohio yesterday to visit Ann's father in a nursing home that had just limited power from generators.

New leaves emerge on a young Umbrella Magnolia (Magnolia tripetala). The leaves on this tree are incredibly long, clustered at the end of each branch. If you look carefully, you can see the shadow of a large spider hiding on the backside of the upright leaf on the right. Pickett's Mill State Historic Site, Paulding County, Georgia.
