Hilft Metformin bei PCO und IVF? Metformin wird zur Behandlung der Insulinresistenz eingesetzt. Aber auch bei Frauen mit speziellen Störungen des Hormonstoffwechsels ist Metformin oft hilfreich. Insbesondere im Zusammenhang mit dem sogenannten PCO-Syndrom hat dieses Medikament seit einigen Jahren ein neues Einsatzgebiet. Bei Frauen mit einem PCO-Syndrom liegt auch häufig eine Insulinresistenz vor und die Gabe von Metformin kann hier die gestörte Eizellreifung normalisieren.

 

Viele Eizellen = schlechte Qualität?

Die Chancen auf eine Schwangerschaft nach einer künstlichen Befruchtung können bei Vorliegen eines PCO-Syndroms vermindert sein. Oft ist eine Insulinresistenz mit dem PCO-Syndrom vergesellschaftet. Die Überreaktion der Eierstöcke auf die Hormongaben gehen dabei oft mit einer Insulinresistenz einher. Es stellt sich daher die Frage, ob die Gabe von Metformin in diesen Fällen die Chancen verbessern kann.

 

Frauen mit einem solchen PCO-Syndrom reagieren auf Hormongaben eher sehr stark und bilden tendenziell viele Eizellen aus, um deren Qualität es aber nicht immer zum besten bestellt ist. Deswegen wurden bereits häufiger Versuche unternommen, diese negativen Aspekte des PCO im Rahmen einer IVF oder ICSI mit Hilfe von Metformingaben zu behandeln. Dabei verbessert sich jedoch offenbar nicht die Schwangerschaftsrate, sondern es führt lediglich zu einer Verminderung der beim PCO vergleichsweise häufigen Überstimulationssyndrome.
