American Red Squirrel.
Between 10 5/8 and 15 1/4 inches long. The smallest tree squirrel in its range. Rust-red to grayish red above, brightest on sides; white or grayish-white below. In winter black lines separate reddish back from whitish belly. Tail is similar to back color, but is outlined with broad black band edged with white. In summer its coat is duller. In winter has prominent ear tufts.
They are often abundant in any king of forest: natural coniferous forests, pine plantations, mixed or hardwood forests; often around buildings.
They range throughout much of Alaska and Canada; in the U.S. south through the Rocky Mountain states, in the east south to Iowa, north Illinois, north Indiana, north Ohio, north Virginia and through the Alleghenies.

A quick landscape shot from Barassie Beach, Troon, Scotland.
An imperfect handheld shot, with some blown out highlights and a shallower depth of field than I would really like. I haven't picked up my camera in months, I am ashamed to admit, not at least with the intention of photographing something specific - and I am far from being a landscape photographer!
I can't believe that I now live just 1 mile from this view! A sea view being well outside of my price bracket but just 1 mile is close enough to call this home.
The sun was on it's way to setting with some gorgeous crepuscular rays over the Firth of Clyde, the Isle of Arran and the majestic outline of Goatfell. Off to the right was a storm cell and some huge downpour rainbands which I have captured in some other shots to come in the future. It was hard to believe that the two scenes were in the same place - it looked apocalyptic to the right of frame!
I put my back out again crouching for this shot but it has been in a bad way since moving day. More physiotherapy required but despite that and the imperfections in my shot, it feels like a lovely view of my new place in this beautiful world of ours. Enjoy.

This house was built in Popivka village of Zinkivskyi district of Poltavska Region in the second half of 19th Century. This is unique farmer’s dwelling of Poltavshchyna’s second half of 19th Century, with its five rooms, carved konyky on tips of its logs, “washed” linden walls.
This house was the property of Skorupa M.M., who inherited it from her mother. Since first building, the house has never been reconstructed or redesigned, except for the stove (inside the house).
A house from Popivka village of the second half of 19th Century represents a late, well-developed type of a house “in two parts”. There are five rooms therein: a solar, a room, a home, a storeroom and a mudroom. The mudroom has two walk-through doors – a direct path from the main façade of the garden.
This is a log-house made of linden. The walls outside are clayed on processed wood and whitewashed. Inside walls of all the premises have their structure open and “washed”. They washed the walls with water-alkaline solution (thick layer of stove ashes had to be filtered with warm water).
The house is supported by oak-tree piles.
The top longitudinal logs of the house are opened on sides with tips konyky, decorated with traditional carving. These konyky are constructively interconnected with transverse linden lumbers, which support rafters.
Logs of the house, pairs are rafters are fixed with oak-tree nails tyblia.
The house is covered with sheaves of rye straw on pairs. The pairs and rafters are made of linden; the lower logs of the houses are made of oak tree.
Perimeter walk of the house is high, outlined brightly. Small windows have one-leaf shutters in house, in solar they are outlined with red clay.
Floor of the house is made of well-packed clay; the storeroom’s floor is made of oak boards on lumbers. The ceiling is made of round sticks, laid on beams, clayed from the both sides.
The chimney is twiggen longitudinally and clayed from inside and outside.
In front of the entrance, there is an awning on two columns.
This is a linden “wooden” house. Its plan is the one of a well-developed “two halves” dwelling. Having divided the solar, the owner received one more space – a “room”. The log walls outside are clayed and whitewashed. Internal walls in all the premises are “washed”. The lower logs of walls are made of oak. The roof is covered with sheaves of straw.

The White House is a building and National Heritage Site in Rotterdam, Netherlands, built in 1898 in the Art Nouveau style. The building is 43 m (141 ft) tall, with 10 floors. [1] It was also the first high-rise building in Europe. The building is listed as a Rijksmonument.
Construction
The architect Willem Molenbroek designed the 10-storey building, at the time an unprecedented height in Europe. The site at Wijnhaven 3 is just 1 m above sea-level and skeptics claimed that the soft soil of Rotterdam would be unable to adequately support the building, so before construction could properly begin, 1000 piles were driven into the ground to support the building's weight. The building is constructed from iron, steel and concrete, and includes two thick interior walls which increase the building's strength. Unlike many other contemporary buildings of the time, wood was not a significant construction material due to the fear of fire. The building cost 127,900 Dutch guilders.
It was also one of the few buildings in central Rotterdam to survive the German bombing campaigns of World War II.
Not quite a true macro, this image is just over 4cm across.
What you can see are two M8 size A2 stainless steel nuts (suspended on a wire in front of a green background) that are being heated with a blue gas flame.
This was taken with a Helios 44M lens at f/16 on about 25mm of extension tube. The strange orange outline around the right nut is due to it being slightly out of focus; it's the bokeh that is orange. The heat and force of the blowtorch on my wobbly set up made focussing difficult, resulting in a slightly burnt finger and a small fire.

Saw this at the bottom of my parents pond. I pulled it up and left it to dry on a rock, then of course, forgot about it. Noelle finds it later while checking out the pond and holds it up and we're all amazed. Good thing I had my camera!

Gori Fortress (Georgian: გორის ციხე) is a medieval citadel in Georgia, situated above the city of Gori on a rocky hill.
Standing on the hilltop, the fortress's outlines follow the natural relief, hence the irregular shape. The inner fortifications occupy the entire plateau, from which the walls descend towards the road along the western slope. Originally, the walls reached the river below and the water had to be diverted through a tunnel, but the river has retreated since.
The fortress first appears in records from the 13th century, but archaeological evidence shows that the area had already been fortified in the final centuries BCE. The fortress was of major strategic importance, given its dominant position guarding a regional trade route, and accommodated a large garrison. In the 16th century the Ottomans captured it to overawe Tbilisi. In 1598 the Georgians, led by their king Simon I, besieged it for nine months to no avail; in 1599 they feigned relieving the siege for Lent and then launched a surprise night attack to regain control over the citadel. The fortress continued to change hands between the Georgians and the Persians in the 17th century.
The citadel acquired its present-day form under the Georgian kings Rostom of Kartli in the 1630s and Erekle II in 1774. Following its completion, King Rostom asked the Italian missionary Cristophoro Castelli, who lived in Gori, to draw the fortress. His stunning illustration from approximately 1642 is a valuable historical document. After the Russian annexation of Georgia in 1801, the fortress was garrisoned by a Russian grenadier battalion, but its importance gradually declined and the fortifications went defunct. The city plan of 1824 shows the citadel, the city on the hill slopes and a moat encircling both. The British Encyclopædia Metropolitana reported in 1845:
At the foot of a chain of low sandstone hills stands the Town and Fortress of Gori, (perhaps the Gursenna of Strabo,) the next place in magnitude and importance to Tiflis. The Castle, an oblong, 200 paces in length, placed sixteen fathoms above the level of the Liakhvi, running at the foot of the hill on which it stands, is now abandoned, a Chapel in its South-Eastern angle being the only part in use.
Gori Fortress was significantly damaged by an earthquake in 1920. The best preserved structure is Tskhra-kara ("the Nine-gated"), facing to the west and adjoined by supplementary walls on the south and east.
The outline of Kerlingarfjöll, a mountain range south of Hofjökull glacier, with peaks such as Snækollur (1488m) and the Loðmundur (1420m). It's a colorful area with a lot of rhyolite. The mountain owes its name to a 25 m high, dark hyaloclastic collumn called Kerling which means 'old woman'. She's standing there, often in the middle of the snow. Stiffened, headstrong...
Surrounded by warm mud pools and steam springs, she never complains. However, from time to time, when icy northern winds move into the valley, poignant, high-pitched woeful sounds can be heard....
They say her voice goes right to the bone.
