We are experiencing a particularly hot summer this year. No wonder this Elkhorn Fern's outer fronds are dried and discolored.
Elkhorn ferns (also called Staghorn ferns) are ‘epiphyte’, meaning that they grow on tree branches and trunks naturally. They can grow fairly large, although they require at least 10 years to achieve their maximum size.
These plants make two types of fronds. The shield, or sterile fronds, wrap around the tree or rock on which the plant is growing. These shields usually form a basket which collects debris, providing a medium for root growth, and aiding in moisture collection and retention. The fertile, or normal fronds, grow out from the bud, and the spores are borne on these. Some species make fertile fronds much like the antler of a deer. Others are nearly round, or wedge shaped.
Generally quite dark compared to other orb web spiders and can be found close to water where their webs are spun on fencing, buildings and bridges and rarely on vegetation. Close to a river near me where I live a river flows under a road in a tunnel these Orbweb spiders can be found and seen in their webs close to the lights that help to light up the pathway where they have the best of both worlds, warmth from the lights where I have even seen the adults spiders here in February with snow outside and plus their prey such as moths and flies are attracted to the lights also. Its amazing to see their webs so close together and not eating each other, nature can be truly amazing at times.

I joined Chris Dodds and some other great photographers at the Pond at Elephant Head to shoot some bats this past September. It's quite an experience. Despite technical difficulties that seemed to plague me, I still came away with some pictures I'm proud of. This bat was captured by setting your camera to take a picture every 10 seconds. A beam is set up across a small (read small "very" small") pond which triggers the flash as a bat crosses the beam. You end up with a lot of black images and some wonderful keepers. I'll post an example of the other set up which uses a flower the bats love and triggers for both camera and flash.
I had other photos lined up to post ... then this little guy landed on an unopened zinnia blossom. And let me get REAL close! That's our big pink hibiscus blooming in the background. Pachydiplax longipennis in our North Georgia yard on a rainy day.

Old Doors Don't Open just a barrier between an alley and a parking place on the other side, but a charming alternative to concrete, shot in North Carolina.
The male Vermilion Flycatcher has such a distinctive look. Probably has to do with the thick, black eye-line. Like the female is a busy little bee. So much fun to watch. Wish we could see this beauty further North.
In the nineteenth century, Chimica Arenella was built inside the seaside village of Arenella, a large Art Nouveau-style factory where tobacco products were packaged, among other things.
The history of "Chimica Arenella" began in the 10s of the twentieth century, when it was established as a branch of the great German factory Gondelberg.
In 1930 it became the largest European citric acid factory, reaching prominent positions in the world chemical industry, and its plant became a reference point for other factories in the sector.
Today taking a tour inside the area of the former factory is a surreal adventure, it seems to be in a strange country far from modern civilization, instead we are inside the city, even if in a hamlet.

I got an amazing im the other day in my fb from this kind man... saying he admired my fotos and the emotions I give to them and he asked me for a portrait one... so... this is what we came up with after lot of laugh and a damn rabbit!!! While storms and squalls were approaching from the west, this was the view on the other side, all sweetness and light. I'm always drawn to the dramatic, but found it hard to resist this beautiful late afternoon panorama. Not a soul about and clouds flying across, hard to beat really. The other side by Ron Sexsmith is fine.
The other Trouble in Mind band I saw with super fun indie pop songs was En Attendant Ana. I hesitate to post two photos in the same day, mainly because I get the people lead busy lives, but I want to get back to some of my New Mexico photos. It's hard to balance everything considering I am always taking, if anything, too many photos. And, I always thought I was just a concert photographer but then I became really interested in street photography and then nature photography so perhaps I lack focus or else there is just not enough hours in the day.

I was wandering around the Evora garden during lunchtime and I spotted three peacocks resting. As I only have my 35mm lens with me I moved closer towards them. None of them moved. So, I got even closer and got down to their level for this picture.
Evora Public Park was built by the municipality between 1863 and 1867. The grounds where it is located were once part of King Manuel’s royal vegetable garden and S. Francisco Convent.
The garden was conceived by the Italian architect and set designer José Cinatti, who also coordinated its archeological and gardening work. His creation is intimately connected with the Romantic ideal of past gardens and also with the use of this space as a social one, of elite reunion and the classes starting to go up the social ladder.
Evora Public Garden covers an area of about 8.2ac (3.3ha) with a vast concentration of trees, mostly species brought from other places, colourful flowerbeds and small lakes.

The Beachcomber or ‘Stone Me’ and Others
I have over the years come across a few of these stone characters, and not only confined to the East Coast of England where I found the majority. They have been discovered in The States, France and Kent. A bit of a random order I know. Some have come home with me but in the main I have left them in situ. No stones were harmed in the making of these images and the ones who did come home did it willingly.
There has been a development, I have noticed faces looking at me embedded in other materials. I know, a bit left field. But I thought they needed to be identified. I haven’t yet seen any walls with ears but you never know. Is ‘Big Brother’ still watching?
When the noise of the real world gets in the way of inner peace, I gravitate to my camera. Experimenting with various liquid ingredients led to this image. It is comprised of milk, oil, food coloring and drops of liquid detergent,
The other day when I was waiting for hummingbirds to show up, this young squirrel was lounging in a nearby tree, barking at me as if he wanted some attention! So I walked over and stood beneath the limb he was on, about 10 feet over my head and got a few shots of him. He stayed there for about 30 minutes before moving on.
