I have been playing instruments for as long as I can remember. It started with a violin. My sister played the piano.
We entertained guests in our house and I really can't understand why they kept coming, but I guess it was so awful so it was fun in some ways. My sis and I had great fun tho. While she played nicely, I kept making strange sounds and my bow was all over the strings. And we laughed and laughed!
I went on with the viola. It is slightly larger than a violin and has a lower and deeper sound, so it didn't make these high pitched tones.
At the same time I started with piano lessons and the teacher didn't like me because I wasn't so talented as my sis, she was a natural and I mean it. But she didn't kill my joy, I did attend these lessons for several years even after I stopped my squeaking period with the viola.
Years went by, 4 kids and all settled down and I was ready to start thinking about myself again. Now I was ready to try a flute, I checked different flutes and knew I loved the sound of clarinet, so then this was my only wish for Christmas and birthday (they are close).
Christmas came and one gift was placed on my lap and I opened it. My husband had found a used (and ooops, expensive) clarinet and we all were thrilled. "Play" they said, "Squeak" it said....
After lots of rehearsals I never really got the right sound out of it, so I went for help and while I observed the lady in front of me playing her clarinet I saw that her fingertips were round and covered the holes, like it's supposed to...
I have slim fingertips...
I have piano fingers...
No wonder it kept on squeaking!
There is a moral here and I did actually learn something from this experience; The grass isn't always greener on the other side....
🎶 Well, join me in some Johann Sebastian Bach on my piano 🎶

Had to take out my 30 year old Sitar from the attic and clean it for this macro. One of the melody strings is broken.
Sitar, stringed instrument of the lute family that is popular in India,. Typically measuring about 1.2 metres (4 feet) in length, the sitar has a deep pear-shaped gourd body; a long, wide, hollow wooden neck; both front and side tuning pegs; and 20 arched movable frets. Its strings are metal; there are usually five melody strings, one or two drone strings used to accentuate the rhythm or pulse, and as many as 13 sympathetic strings beneath the frets in the neck that are tuned to the notes of the raga (melodic framework of the performance).
In the 1960s, the use of the sitar in Western popular music, with the instrument appearing on tracks by bands such as The Beatles, The Doors, The Rolling Stones and others.
