One of the adorable little leaf-cutter bees that I gave a home to last summer. I live in Maryland but these were ordered from a breeder.

We scrambled around the lake to a small campsite to eat lunch far from the noisy crowd. There was a cold wind blowing but no rain. Would have been good to have a rain (we had raincoats along) because everything was very, very dry.
We traveled around Mason Lake to a peaceful campsite where we had lunch. A few dozen people were around the bend on the other side of the lake noisily enjoying themselves. Thankfully, we didn't hear them very much in this spot.

Delighted that a few Osmia bicornis Red Mason bees have begun to emerge from the bee hotel in my garden (see photo in first comment). ID confirmed as a male Red Mason Bee on the Insects/Invertebrates Ireland FB page. The males emerge before the females apparently.
My Dad made the bee hotel & as he had several already he gave it to me when I was over visiting them in Hereford last Summer. Several of the tubes were sealed with mud. Coming back on the car ferry I suddenly panicked & thought "what if I'm introducing a new species to Ireland"? Thankfully Red Mason bees are already here, phew! HWW & HBBBT!

I am hopeless. I have done nothing all day... so much for all of the projects I had in my mind (where they generally stay...forever). I went back to the abandoned stone house and took more pictures.... and I found these mason jars... and they followed me home....
Someone really needs to save me from myself...
Mason jars are a wonderful thing. You can fill them with treasures... like seashells, or buttons, or clothespins (yes, they are treasures, too) and then add them to the thousand other mason jars filled with treasures.... *sigh*

Wonderful to come home after a day at work to see all the Mason Bees out in the sunshine buzzing around and exploring the bee hotels!
Mason Greenwood is 18 and there was an article about him in today's Times.
That shouldn't come as a surprise as there was an article about him in yesterday's Times, too. And the day before, and the day before that ... and ...

We hiked up Mason Creek yesterday. The creek was often full of new tree fall and debris. But I found this sweet little spot.

On the crest of Borovitsky Hill, at the south end of Sobornaya Ploshad (Cathedral Square), stands the Cathedral of the Annunciation.
The first church was built on this spot as early as 1397 by order of Grand Duke Vassily I. The present building dates from 1484, when Ivan III (the Great), the great Muscovite empire-builder, ordered a new cathedral on the site. It was completed in 1489 by Krivtsov and Mishkin, masons from Pskov, who blended Greek and Russian styles in their design.
