Yesterday morning was rather exciting because there were several Wood Ducks in the pond. I don't know what got them going, but they were all on the move and speeding around in different directions. It made for quite the challenge, especially because I'm just starting to get outside with the camera again.

Skippy Blends In the squirrel heard me or saw me, they usually freeze until they know where your going, very cautious group, shot in North Carolina.

I know it’s a very old fashioned flower, but I love lilac. Then again, I am somewhat of an old fashioned person, and certainly an old soul, so perhaps it suits me. I love lilacs for their delicate blooms, sweet scent and of course their delightful shades of purple. They are a true harbinger of spring.

The theme for "Looking Close on Friday" for the 26th of May is "shades of purple", and I was immediately put in mind of the lovely lilacs I saw in some of the old fashioned cottage gardens that I sometimes see on my walks. Whilst it is autumn where I live now, I just happen to have a photograph of a beautiful lilac bearing several shades of purple in my photo archive, taken on a lovely spring stroll I took in October last year. Captured against a wonderfully clear azure sky, I thought it most suitable. I hope you like my choice for the theme and that it makes you smile!

Syringa is a genus of twelve currently recognized species of flowering woody plants in the olive family or Oleaceae called lilacs. These lilacs are native to woodland and scrub from south eastern Europe to eastern Asia, and widely and commonly cultivated in temperate areas elsewhere.

For all who know that frace in the titel and always wanted to know how this may look like, exactly like this. If we can visit here the dog of hell (this is the alone standing rock on the left side) this must be hell itself. It was a fantastic sunrise with relaxed minus 16 degrees and so we now also know, what temperatures are necessary for that. The name of the rock on the right side is, by the way, goose wherever this has its place in hell. This is a panoramic photograph made by five upright shots.

Es war ein grandioser Sonnenaufgang bei entspannten minus 16 Grad, womit wir jetzt auch wissen, welche Temperaturen dafür nötig sind. I know there is a shortage of insects, which is very worrying, but this only hit home to me after I returned from a 830 mile journey, and there was hardly an insect on the windscreen or bumper...Years ago had to stop after twenty miles to clean them off...I'll let you draw your own conclusions as to why this is happening.

You all know lupines in my garden already from the photos with the raindrops on their leafs. Off course I don't want to keep the beautiful flowers back from You. I did walk around them quite often already, trying to find a way to give them the right attention. Mostly I didn't had an idea and if I had one, I didn't like the result. Until the setting sun was helping me out a lot.

Ihr alle kennt die Lupinen in meinem Garten bereits von den Bildern mit den Regentropfen auf ihren Blättern. Natürlich möchte ich Euch auch die wunderschönen Blüten nicht vorenhalten. Schon oft bin ich um sie herum gelaufen und habe mir überlegt, wie ich sie wohl am besten in Szene setzen könnte. This historical bridge know as Locust Bridge, also called the Linn County Bridge, the covered bridge is located about 3 miles (4.8 km) west of Laclede. At a length of 151 feet (46 m) with a width of 16 ft 8 in (5.08 m) it is the longest of the four remaining covered bridges in the state of Missouri. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970. In August 1868, a contract was awarded by the Linn County Commissioners to Bishop & Eaton for a bridge across Locust Creek, with the cost not to exceed 5,500 dollars.[5] The structure is a Howe truss, constructed of white pine. Vertical iron rods tightly secure diagonal wooden beams to the bottom and top of the structure.[3] In addition to its utilitarian function, over time the bridge was a hangout for locals with some proclaiming their love for one another and their presence at the bridge with carvings along the bridge's internal walls. As a popular fishing and swimming spot, the bridge was visited by John J. Pershing; his boyhood home and the state park bearing his name are nearby. (Missouri Dept of Nat. Res.)

The water course that used to run under this bridge has migrated about a half mile to the west of this structure. It is a beautiful piece of historical architecture from an era of craftsmanship gone by.

I never know what photos to show from a day spent afield, and I had some sharper shots of ducks and geese at Cardinal Marsh today, but they didn't show the beauty and splendor of the sights as well as these greater white-fronted geese lifting off. If you zoom in, you can also spot a few northern shovelers, mallards and gadwalls in the mix.
