Another treasure from the distant past - this majestic dome towers directly over the prayer "mihrab."
Seen in a shop just off Brick Lane. Not quite V-tech.

One of Cairo's most imposing mosques is that of Sultan Hassan. It was built between 1356 and 1393. This photograph shows the beautiful sanctuary liwan (arcade) of the mosque, inlaid with coloured marbles and decorated with a band of Kufic script. In the centre is the mihrab, the niche indicating the direction of Mecca. To the right of it is the minbar (the pulpit).
The twin minarets of the Mosque of Al-Muayyad (early 15th century). They were built on top of the Bab Zwayla, one of the main gateways to Islamic Cairo. It dates from the Fatimid era (969 to 1171).

"Asila" or "The Original" presents my interpretations of Classic Baju Kurung with usage of our very own Songket and Tenuns.

Her idea is worked around her new prints of fabrics that are uniquely pink jambu and then these fabrics are styled for this Islamic show. The prints are based on jungle flowers and plants printed on chiffon, cdc, satin, voile, etc. Colors are bold and stricking suitable for the end of the year season. These garments designed for the Islamic show is an extension of her ready to wear collection to show the versatility of our hand-drawn fabrics and the beauty of the Malaysian batik craft.

To showcase an excellently comfortable style for a wearer, the fashion concept of “Active Attire” exclusive collections has both bright, floral embroidered prints as well as trendy designs with various combinations of colors. There are not only attractive and in line with current fashion trends but it is neither sexy nor clinging to a wearer’s body. A wearer has alternatives to wear a jumpsuit style with long sleeve jacket as it does not reveal the wearer’s shape. On the other hand, the wearer is able to wear sleeveless inner wear during ladies pool season in a closed swimming pool.

Istanbul is not the only city with a Blue Mosque: Cairo has one too! The Mosque of Aqsunqur, dating from 1347, is also known as the Blue Mosque because of its interior decoration: mainly blue tiles from Iznik in Turkey, which were added when the mosque was refurbished in the 1650s by Ibrahim Agha. This photograph shows the chamber in which Ibrahim Agha is buried.
