Islam teaches that we should worship only God, the ONE, the eternal, everlasting God of Abraham Issac, Moses, Noah, and yes Jesus and Mohammed. The main difference is that we do not associate partners with God in any means, not even Mohammed for he was merely a human being sent to make a final guidance.
In our books, the trials and triumphs of the early Muslims as individual men and women are well-portrayed. Their various paths to Islam sometimes direct, sometimes long and tortuous, their devotion to the noble Prophet, their hope in God and in the life to come, their endeavours in peace and in times of hardship and struggle all serve to cast them in a heroic mould. This is one of my favourite buildings in Islamic Cairo - the Sabil-Kuttab of Qaitbey, dating from the 15th century. The ground floor served as a public fountain and the first floor as a Qur'anic school. The marble-inlay decoration on its western facade is of the highest quality. Part of the building now houses a library devoted to Islamic civilisation.
Cairo's equivalent of the Moscow Kremlin, the Citadel was home to the city's rulers for some 700 years. Built by Saladin in 1176, the fortified complex is divided into three vast enclosures, containing mosques, museums, battlements and residential buildings, dating from the 12th to the 19th centuries. This photograph shows the main mihrab (prayer niche) in the sanctuary of the early 16th century Mosque of Suleiman Pasha; the first Ottoman mosque to be built in Egypt.
M-IFW Islamic Fashion Show featuring Show C – Contemporary Showcase featuring "ASILA" by Salikin. A loose interpretation of kurung means "to confine and encase" the body. With the introduction of Islam to the Malay community, the Malay concept of Kurung is generally regarded as a loose-flowing, long and comfortable garment that modestly covers the entire body. "Asila" or "The Original" presents my interpretations of Classic Baju Kurung with usage of our very own Songket and Tenuns.
