The colours of the infographic are chosen to fit with the show's themes of science -- the white and black of the title match the show's logo and convey a sense of professionalism, while the bold colours of the graph both match the DNA strand in the logo's H as well as fit the "straight-forward science" feel. The colours of both graphs also correspond to characters: Sarah is black both because of her darker, grittier attitude but also because she is the orphan "in the black" described by the title; Cosima is blue because the colour relates to technology and she is the scientist; Alison is green for her soccer-mom, crafty personality; red denotes Helena's more violent nature.
I changed the font of the sub-title to convey a more fun, handwritten feel to the infographic, just as the show manages a light-hearted humor despite its many dark and serious themes. This also fits due to the show's tendency to focus on handwritten codes and notes in the margins of reports and books to showcase important information.

Each character (fish hook, beach ball, boat) is an icon created in order to represent various areas of the economy surrounding the Great Lakes: Employment, Tourism and Imports & Exports. This information graphic is meant to inform children and families living near the Great Lakes, about what takes part in our economy, and why the Great Lakes are so important.
