The adult male African paradise flycatcher is about 17 cm long, but the very long tail streamers double this. It has a black head, neck and underparts, and chestnut wings and tail. There is a prominent white wingbar. The female has a browner tint to the underparts and lacks the wingbar and tail streamers. Young birds are similar to the female but duller.

Thank you guys for all the comments and favs, it's time to catch your photostreams.

For my Styled Chic No. 1, I took this totally hip and modern room shot from Crate & Barrel. This hip and modern design is inspired by color and sophistication. This wedding suite contains an Invitation, belly band and RSVP card. I love working with different color palettes. I took the cream, black and purple tones as my palette. There are so many combination’s that can come from from this including the silver from the wall, but I wanted something a little different. I also took the pattern from the pillow and incorporated it on the belly band. Perfect!

I created a custom monogram to layer on the belly band to really give some punch and brand the couple. I used an ivory cream linen card stock to add some richness and flat printed them. These could just as well be letterpressed! I would pair these with gorgeous ivory cream envelopes and a custom rubber stamp. *wink

The Designer

Matthew Dent, a professional graphic designer, had seen the competition advertised in one of the national newspapers and he threw himself wholeheartedly into the project. As an artist his inspiration comes from many sources and he explored a number of options before finally developing his ideas for an heraldic set. The result is a set of coins firmly rooted in the heraldic traditions of the British coinage yet beautifully contemporary.

In seeking to spread a single design across six denominations, Matthew Dent conceived an idea that has never been realised before on the British coinage. To have the £1 as the unifying coin only emerged towards the end of the design process. Matthew Dent has commented that 'the addition of the £1 coin design to the set was as a way of defining the whole series. A key coin uniting the designs'. Against all the odds, a young artist has won a public competition and devised a stunningly original series that stands as an imaginative and clever solution.

'I felt that the solution to the Royal Mint's brief lay in a united design - united in terms of theme, execution and coverage over the surface of the coins. I wondered about a theme of birds or plants, but also considered buildings and coastal scenery. The issue with this for me lay in their distribution; how to represent the whole of the United Kingdom over six coins. The idea of a landscape appealed to me; perhaps using well-known landscapes from different areas around the United Kingdom which could stretch off the edge of one coin onto another. This seemed like a good solution but I also wanted to look at other options and themes.

I thought the six coins could make up a shield by arranging the coins both horizontally, as with the landscape idea, as well as vertically, in a sort of jigsaw style. I liked the idea and symbolism of using the Royal Arms, where individually the coins could focus on specific elements and when placed together they reveal the complete Royal Arms.

I found the idea that members of the public could interact with the coins the most exciting aspect of this concept. It's easy to imagine the coins pushed around a school classroom table or fumbled around with on a bar - being pieced together as a jigsaw and just having fun with them.'

Toronto Artists are turning electrical boxes into things of beauty!

Outside the Box Toronto is an art program as part of the StreetArtToronto Initiative that empowers street artists to have their work legally displayed on property in the City of Toronto.

The city of Toronto is trying to make its streets more beautiful by asking artists to think inside the box.

The city is commissioning local artists to re-imagine the dull grey traffic signal boxes that control lights at intersections and transform them into hand-painted works of art.

The Outside the Box program provides an opportunity for local artists to create works of art on traffic signal boxes across Toronto. Since 2013, over 350 boxes have been hand-painted by local artists, or wrapped featuring designs by local graphic artists, and transformed into extraordinary works of art. Artists and graphic designers applying to this program are encouraged to consider the context of the local area and the city as a whole. Art calls for hand-painted boxes, and graphic designs for wrapped boxes, are issued separately."

The artist fee paid is $650 honorarium (including HST) for each completed traffic signal box.

Thanks for visiting, I will do a series of these boxes soon.

Our JJ works as a graphic designer for a local creative design company and the company have just bought a drone so they can add an extra angle for companies. The company asked JJ to take the drone home with him last weekend so that he could get used to flying it, so after checking rules and regulations he gave it a go!

This aerial photo is from the Friday evening, when he had a practice outside the office. This area is of particular interest to me as it's where I grew up. I have added notes to the photo I can show you where JJ's office is and my childhood home, which is across the road - quite a coincidence that he should end up working in that location! Also, see notes to show the Still and West and Spice Island Inn pub restaurants.

Portsmouth Point, or "Spice Island", is part of Old Portsmouth in Portsmouth, Hampshire, on the southern coast of England. The name Spice Island comes from the area's seedy reputation, as it was known as the "Spice of Life". Men were easily found and press-ganged into Nelson's navy from Portsmouth Point due to its hostelries and for being where prostitutes plied their trade. The area forms the eastern side of the narrow entrance to Portsmouth Harbour, facing Gosport on the western side.(From Wikipedia)

Born in San Francisco, CA to a father who was a flamenco guitarist in Barcelona, Spain, and an artist mother who's known for her paintings of the Redwood Forests. She studied art at St. Martin's Academy in London and interned briefly at the Tate Modern Gallery. Her art aesthetic is very modern and with punches of bright color. She favors the masterpieces of Van Gogh, Salvador Dali, and Andy Warhol. Currently, she works as a graphic designer for an advertising company in San Francisco. Her art can be seen occasionally at Infinite Galleries and local galleries in the Bay Area.

A wonderfully talented graphic designer and I worked on a project together creating an album cover for The Portland Cello Project, and the final product looks pretty sweet!

On a different note, I'm stoked to be leaving tomorrow to go on a week long photo camping trip to Port Townsend! I'll be assisting most of the time, but hopefully I will be able to sneak in a couple conceptual photos while I'm there! Here's a video of the trip they went on last year.

I am officially a graphic designer for Goldman Sachs, through the UK company Williams Lea Tag! As of this week, I'm currently working in New York's Financial District, across the street from the World Trade Center and within view of the Statue of Liberty! This is a major milestone in my professional career, following a previous year of hardship and uncertainty. Although I've been consistently employed as a graphic artist since early 2010 when I migrated from Pennsylvania, the majority of my jobs have been small businesses, short-term gigs, and freelance assignments with little growth potential.

In early 2017, my position at a small office in Brooklyn ended as the company's sales declined, and during the rest of this year I worked sporadically as a freelancer. While gradually working on my stop-motion animation LEGO Alice in Wonderland video over the summer, I wasn't able to find a new permanent role as a graphic designer, and had many doubts. Up until last month, I gave serious consideration into moving back to Pennsylvania and starting a photography business rather than constantly sending my resume out in this competitive market. It wasn't until late September that Williams Lea Tag considered to move forward with my application, where I passed several rounds of interviews and assessment tests to ultimately become accepted for this role at Goldman Sachs.

Now that I work in a major Fortune 500 financial institution, this opens up a lot of doors for the future and completely alters the course of my career potential.
