"It has to do with a programmer who creates a whole collection of artificial virtual personalities in a virtual world, but he doesn't let them know that they're virtual. So they argue among themselves as to whether there exists a creator, and if so whether they owe him any gratitude for their existence.

Sand Hills Tribute
It’s a place that holds a special spot in the heart of very few, including those that call it home and the relatively small community that is aware of its existence and spends the time to visit it. It’s less of a secret and more of an unknown, a place so far away from civilization and so devoid of people that is captures the attention of zero outsiders. Its landscape is so unique that it is one of the only places remaining on the entire planet that registers anything like it. It’s a place so delicate that the greatest threat to its existence is not the cattle grazing, or the trains, or even the people, but of all things, a native species of tree. As crazy as it may sound, the Nebraska Sand Hills have been described as one of the most important ecosystems in the world, and yet no one knows of its existence.
Grasslands’ contribution to the environment is hard to capture. Much of what makes them important is either hard to see or happens under the surface, unlike a forest whose contribution is easily seen from miles and miles away. People usually refer to pretty places as those that are filled with trees in every direction—left, right, up, down—which is confusing to many others. Trees clutter the scene and hide the very thing you’re hoping to see, leaving a rather underwhelming green blanket over any landscape they dominate. The prettiest of scenes are impossible to look away from. They are vast and full of intrigue, capable of letting the mind wonder as far as the eye can see. They are places where you can look into the sunrise towards tomorrow and back at sunset to yesterday.
In 2022, a study was published in the journal Conservation Science and Practice attempting to identify the last continuous, intact grasslands remaining in the world. Of the 70 qualified grasslands that were identified for the study, only seven remained “relatively intact at large scales,” and number one on the list of all temperate grasslands on the entire planet was the Nebraska Sand Hills. Five of the seven finalists greatest threat to existence was “energy development.” The Sand Hills greatest threat is “woody encroachment.”
Additionally, the Sand Hills also sits atop the largest aquifer in the U.S. and the most important water resource in the country. The deepest part of the High Plains aquifer—much of which is made up of the Ogallala aquifer and spans from South Dakota to Texas—is right over the heart of the Sand Hills. The deepest part of the entire aquifer lies between Ashby and Whitman where the saturated thickness of the ground exceeds 1000 feet, an almost incomprehensible amount of water. Consequently, the water table lies at or near the surface in this part of Nebraska, the evidence being all the little lakes scattered about, giving the Sand Hills its signature look. Despite its documented contribution to the world, time is running out, and in more ways than one.
First off, the Sand Hills are the only major intact grassland without a formal conservation strategy. It’s mostly kept intact by private landowners who have to fend off the eastern redcedar by themselves, the tree species that is the greatest threat to the Sand Hills.
Secondly, and more relevant to us, the trains themselves are not as prevalent. In enough cases, they are so few and far between that BNSF has stored nearly 10 miles of autoracks on the main at Ellsworth in addition to the six or so miles of old grain hoppers on the 2nd main at Anselmo. There is little reason to believe this trend will ever reverse.
All the way back in 2015, at the U.S. Energy Information Administration’s annual conference, Matt Rose described the recent capacity improvements in the PRB as “millions of dollars in investment in what will eventually be stranded assets.” He saw this coming within the next 10 years at the time.
Today, rumors swirl that BNSF has put up the Orin for lease. In 2025, an estimated 4.7% of the total U.S. coal fleet is planned to retire. The two main ones include the Intermountain Power Project in Utah (though its retirement has been blocked by Utah lawmakers), and the J.H. Campbell station in Michigan (its retirement date extended from May to November by the DOE). One of these trains I shot out here in September was on its 177th load from Black Thunder to West Olive, MI, which translates to a minimum of 354 trains disappearing when it retires later this year. Even losing just 10 trains a day means 3,650 disappear over the course of a year, and the losses have been much greater than just 10 a day on all lines. Despite an entire decade head start, there is still no plan for how to replace all the coal traffic lost as the outlook for the railroads continually dwindles every year. Coal electricity generation is expected to fall another 2% for the U.S. next year, and there is absolutely no reason for it to recover, despite what our president says.

MTM announced this week at SDP40 325 and GN coach 1096 were being shipped to Albia Iowa in the coming weeks for repaints.
A massive private donation is seeing that both 325 and 1096 are repainted in Great Northern orange and green.
The 325 wore the simplified orange scheme for the first few years of her existence. seen here:
www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=114373
Both will return to the roundhouse in time for the 2023 operating season, so I've heard.
Being with the "big leagues" I've mostly fallen out of touch with MTM but maintain a few connections.
Fundraisers to repaint it Big Sky Blue (plan A) were deemed not successful, and the museum is giving the option of refund, reallocation, or hold for future 325 cosmetics.
Seen here are 325 & 1096 at Osceola in October 2018, when I made my last run as a volunteer.
Looking forward to seeing the finished product in a few months.
Honestly, with the chaos that is MTM the past year, I didn't think there was a snowball's chance in hell it would happen. But, money talks and the money wanted orange, even though I, along with many others, was rooting for blue.

The area of Hierapolis was exposed to be a place for many settlements for its abundant water sources. It is highly believed that the ancient city was built by the people of Pergamum. The history of Hierapolis before the Hellenistic period is not known exactly but there had been a settlement existence here. It is known that around 1900’s BC Luwis were in the scene of the area. The most civilized city of its time was Cydrara in the area around 500 BC and they had built a holy temple here.
While the fires and their resulting smoke appear under control, welcome clouds take their place in the skies above Lake Shuswap. Painterly reflections take on an art like complexion, while the sky expands to take in a breath of fresh air.
As the reflections come and go with each movement in the water, only one of my many attempts captures their fleeting existence.
It takes a microscopic organism to make us see just how intricately woven our human existence has become. For my husbank and I, it's become a daily struggle now to determine what is essential and non-essential when it comes to completing a task that requires human interaction. Being in the over 60 with a history of respiratory issues group, I have to keep reminding myself (and my husband) that it only takes one interaction.
I feel fortunate to have been brought up by a mother who was/is a very frugal and private person. Shelter in place was a lifestyle we practiced often in our childhood due to frequent household moves or social isolation due to being the preacher's kids.
It's time to start pruning the rasperries and fruit trees, remove debris from garden beds, and soak up some sunshine.

In the serene woodlands of Hacienda Montecristo, near the culturally rich Santa Rosa de Copán, I captured a tender moment between an Azure-crowned Hummingbird, Saucerottia cyanocephala, and her fledgling. This photograph embodies the essence of a mother's care, set against a backdrop where the verdure of Honduras unfolds in harmony with the simplicity of these birds' existence. The adult's vibrant azure crown, a stark contrast to the juvenile's developing plumes, speaks volumes of the life stages that I, as a photographer, am privileged to witness.
Utilizing a shallow depth of field, I sought to crystallize the duo's interaction while allowing the lush environment to softly blur into bokeh, highlighting the birds as the focal point. The diffused lighting of the canopy gently illuminated the iridescence of the mother's feathers, while the careful composition preserved the integrity of their natural behavior. This image is not just a visual record; it is a story of survival and continuity in the avian world, a narrative I strive to share through my lens. ©2022 Adam Rainoff

Another wind sculpted Yorkshire Dales Tree sitting on the edge of a limestone outcrop up by Winskill Stones.
I was on my way back home from Malham late September last Year and as I travelled back over the hill to Langcliffe this scene unfolded, so I quickly stopped the car and ran up to this point capture the setting sun.
There are so many of these small trees seeking out a frugal existence on the limestone pavement. They all have so much character shaped by the prevailing winds!

Struggling for existence is the essences of life depicted here as we witness four people are struggling in the mid stream against the high tide for their smooth sailing. They remain calm and quite as they aware off their responsibility for safe voyage.

YHL, also known early in its existence as the Cape Foulweather Lighthouse, is a lighthouse on the Oregon Coast of the United States. It is located in Lincoln County, near the mouth of the Yaquina River near Newport at Yaquina Head. The tower stands 93 feet (28 m) tall. It is the tallest lighthouse in Oregon & a bright beacon of the night, guiding ships and their supplies along the west coast since the light was first lit on August 20, 1873.

Ancona Cathedral is a Roman Catholic cathedral in Ancona, central Italy, dedicated to Saint Cyriacus. It is the seat of the Archbishop of Ancona. The building is an example of mixed Romanesque-Byzantine and Gothic elements, and stands on the site of the former acropolis of the Greek city, the Guasco hill which overlooks Ancona and its gulf.
Excavations carried on in 2016 proved that an Italic temple, perhaps dedicated to Aphrodite, existed on the site as early as the 3rd century BC. On top of it, in the 6th century AD, a Palaeo-Christian church was built: this had a nave and three aisles with the entrance facing south-east (where the current Chapel of the Crucifix is). Some remains of it still in existence include a mosaic pavement and perimeter walls.
In 995–1015 a new church was built, which kept the original walls. In 1017 the renovated basilica received the relics of Saint Marcellinus of Ancona and Saint Cyriacus. Further enlargement works occurred between the late 12th and the early 13th centuries, with the addition of a transept to obtain a Greek cross plan, and an entrance towards the south-west, resulting in the church now facing the port and the new road entering the city. The transepts were at a higher level than the previous nave, and had apses. The church, previously dedicated to Saint Lawrence, was re-dedicated to Saint Cyriacus the Martyr, the patron saint and (possibly) bishop of Ancona.
In 1883 the basilica underwent a very impressive restoration by Giuseppe Sacconi, future superintendent of the monuments of the Marches and Umbria from 1891 to 1902 and author of the project of the Vittoriano. He restored it to its original austere medieval appearance, eliminating the decorations and overlapping plasters, which over the centuries had altered the original appearance of the church.
During World War I, on 24 May 1915, the basilica was damaged by a bombardment of the Austro-Hungarian fleet. The damage was restored in 1920, but in World War II Anglo-American aerial bombings destroyed the south transept and the Crypt of Tears under it, along with the art objects housed there. Once the transept was rebuilt, the church was officially reopened in 1951. Further damage was caused by an earthquake in 1972, followed by a new restoration and another official opening in 1977.
Under the arches are four reliefs depicting the symbols of the Evangelists. The portal is attributed to Giorgio da Como (c. 1228), and is in Romanesque-Gothic style, built in Conero white stone from Mount Conero and Veronese red marble. It is decorated by a series of columns holding ogival arches with reliefs of saints' busts, animal figures and vegetable motifs. Above the portal is a large oculus with a Romanesque frame between two single mullioned windows.

Flipping the Lens: Women's Perspective on the World of Men
" Most nice guys say they 'can be' a Don Juan anytime, but they choose not to be. Most women wonder if these men are nice because they choose to be, or if they were simply unable to win over the challenges of manhood.
To be a Don Juan is not just a choice for men, but rather an achievement that comes after hardship and growth. Some men may never attain this status in their lifetime, no matter how hard they try. It takes wisdom and courage to become a Don Juan (Redpill) "

Methods for becoming a Don Juan ??
" Embrace the Don Juan mindset, acknowledge the amoral nature of existence, and understand that strength in character will always captivate women's hearts. "

. . . How To . . .
There are 5 brief steps - the science of attraction and the ascent to becoming an ace that high-quality women pursue and admire.
Lv 1. Pure Bluepill
☑️ Completely immersed in fantasy
☑️ Living entirely within an idealistic fantasy
☑️ Unaware of the harsh realities of life and the truth
Lv 2. Acknowledge the Redpill
☑️ Beginning to understand the Redpill, but still holding onto Bluepill habits.
Lv 3. Purplepill
☑️ Grasping Redpill concepts, but struggling to fully adopt them due to lingering personal biases
☑️ Realizing that being a "nice guy" , being nice ALONE won't attract high-quality women without ample resources (attractive appearance, success, reputation, assets, power, or high quality connections)
☑️ Recognized that being a nice guy only works with high-quality women if one has abundant resources (attractive appearance, success, reputation, assets, power, or high quality connections)
Lv 4. Mindset shifted to Redpill
☑️ Firmly believing in the Redpill,
☑️ Well-versed in Reality and Redpill principles
☑️ Acknowledging of hypergamy
☑️ Gaining an understanding of hypergamy and how its impact on quality women's choices for seeking superior men or those with higher status/quality
☑️ Deeply comprehended Redpill but remained vulnerable to relapsing into Bluepill mindset when exposed to Bluepill media (movies, songs, books, media)
Lv 5. Pure Redpill
☑️ Living as a true Redpill.
☑️ Firmly rooted in reality with no possibility of returning to Bluepill mindset
☑️ Fully accepting reality and embracing a truly Redpill lifestyle, leaving no room for regression to Bluepill beliefs.

Limodorum abortivum (Orchidaceae) 116 25
Limodorum abortivum was first described by Swartz from Fontainebleu (France) in 1753 and its name refers to the the small size of the leaves and the manner in which they sheath the stem. Abortivum literally means aborted leaves.
This is a curious orchid that still requires study in order to determine its precise biology. Although widely regarded as a wholly saprophytic plant, there are indications that it may (at least in part) be parasitic. Two factors in particular serve to confuse the issue and these are firstly the fact that the stem has been shown to contain measurable levels of chlorophyll and secondly that the plant depends throughout its existence on mycorrhizal fungus. Limodorum abortivum needs little description as it is highly distinctive and impossible to confuse with any other type of orchid.
This is a widespread species with a distribution from Belgium in the north, North Africa in the south and at least as far as Russia in the east. It does not occur in Britain and reaches the height of it's abundance in the southern Mediterranean where it is predominantly found on calcareous soils and usually associated with pine forest. This close proximity to living pine trees is another link with possible parasitism but as already mentioned, the physiology is not yet fully understood.
