Though this episode begins in a more traditional non fiction way, with many facts about how many mushrooms perish when the snow falls and temperatures plummet, the episode evolves further with a more empathetic feel. Even a mushroom documentary film maker must show the human side to the mushrooms and how they can suffer. Thus, there is a definite arc to the episode with a thrilling culmination of the collective voices of the mushroom community as they proclaim the following poem:
For days, we witnessed the ominous
“Winter is Coming!"
Well, winter is here, with it’s equal
wonder and terror
We cling to each other
like words in a sentence
without as many spaces.
We are withered, weathered,
and struggling to survive.

This is the fourth part of the story and this has a great deal of aggression from the start. It is the dark chronicle of Zagreus.
It is thought to have been first built circa 1627 as this date is carved on part of the framework. This is the earliest date to be found on any windmill in the British Isles. It should be remembered that such a structure would have had to have frequent repairs made to it, so the mill may predate 1627. It was dendrochronologically dated in 2004 by Dr. Martin Bridge of the Oxford Dendrochronology Laboratory when the oldest pieces in the buck were found to be from trees felled in winter 1595/96 and spring 1597. The 'new' crown tree was made from a tree that felled in spring 1670, while the quarter bars of the trestle were from trees felled between 1824 and 1826, so like most mills, it is a mix of old timbers variously recycled or hanging on from their original use.
For nearly three hundred years grain grown in the two adjoining villages was ground at the mill into flour. In 1874 the mill was bought by Adelbert Wellington Brownlow Cust, 3rd Earl Brownlow who owned the nearby Ashridge Estate. He subsequently left it to a local farmer, who ran a successful milling business from the mill.
In 1902 the mill was seriously damaged during an enormous gale, damaging it beyond the price of economic repair. Around 1922 the derelict ruined mill was bought from the Ashridge Estate by a farmer whose land was close to the mill. In 1937 he donated it to the National Trust. However, it was not until 1963 that a band of volunteers began to carry out renovations at their own expense. The mill appeared in an episode of The Champions titled The Invisible Man which was filmed in 1967.[2] In 1970, after an interlude of 68 years, the mill once again ground corn.

This morning, on 27 February 2013, the Bocca Nuova started erupting again, and this new episode was very similar to a series of miniature paroxysms from the Bocca Nuova we've seen earlier this year, from mid-January until early February - before the New Southeast Crater celebrated its triumphant return on the scene." The scene is a 19- image focus stack composite. It was illuminated by two Nikon SB900 speedlights positioned 90° CL/CR, one-foot above and two-feet away from the subject and fired in Manual mode @ ½ - power through Neewer 24" x 24" soft boxes.
The SB900s were triggered by three PocketWizard Plus X triggers.
Lens: Tokina AT - X M100 AF PRO D (AF 100mm f / 2.8 Macro) with 12mm and 20-mm extension tubes attached.

I've never watched a Star Wars film in its entirety, I'm a poser. I had to google the names of the movies to figure out the caption here.
One of the more questionable decisions I made back when covid was running strong was only chasing the Bessemer & Lake Erie one single time when they had their IC power. Knowing what I know now, I would have spent more time there instead of shooting locally as it was only a 3 hour drive for me to get anywhere on the northern end of their system. For a solid year or two when I could've gone down, they ran daily with Illinois Central SD70s sporting P5s on ore trains past searchlight signals. Ugh.
On this day, the conditions couldn't have been worse for chasing black locomotives. A horrifically dreary September day gave way to severe thunderstorms mid chase, and I was still a lazy little boy who relied on auto settings on his camera. So, combine auto settings with a guy still figuring out how to frame photos and you're in 'blind squirrel finding a nut' territory. Eventually, after chasing the train for a few hours following around fellow geeks I didn't really know well just yet, we ended up at a location I was actually familiar with. Kimbles Viaduct is easily seen from I-79 when using the southbound lanes, and I had seen it many a time on family road trips as a kid and had always wanted a photo of it. My opportunity came that day, as I parked on the road below and ran my way up to interstate level for a respectable shot of the ore loads coming south. The rain cleared up and it got bright enough for my camera to not have a seizure trying to get the settings right, and I managed to keep the photo level and framed. Sadly this is one of maybe three photos from that day I would ever bother showing people, but it does it for me.
I ended up taking a little present home with me that day in the form of an airborne pathogen. I came down with covid a few days later as one of the other guys had it as well without knowing yet.
Was it worth it? Sure.

This template took a while to get looking right, and I finally got it to a point where I'm satisfied with the way it looks. During a recent gastric intestinal, counting the floor tiles, (24 or so) episode, my son put this in the bathroom for me. I have recreated the scene for your enjoyment.

If you have seen the first episode of the Welsh language series 'Y Gwyll' on S4C (or the BBC version titled 'Hinterland' in English) you would most probably recognise this bridge.
The bridge is the Devil's Bridge which in the Welsh language is Pontarfynach which, however, directly translates as Monks Bridge. The story as told on devilsbridgefalls.co.uk:
'… around the IIth Century, the Devil visited Wales as he had never been there before and he had heard that the scenery was breathtaking. He soon came across an old lady who seemed upset. “What’s the matter?” he asked out of curiosity.
“Oh, I’m in such a terrible muddle and I don’t know what to do!. My cow has wandered across the river and I can’t get her back”.
‘Ah!” said the Devil ‘What you need my dear, is a bridge, and I am just the man to build you one. Why don’t you go home, and in the morning there will be a bridge waiting for you. All I ask in return is to keep the first living thing to cross the bridge!”
“Okay then” she said “It’s a bargain. I’ll see you in the morning. Nos da, Goodnight”
That night she wondered about this stranger who would build her a bridge. ‘What a strange request! Why should I cross the bridge to get my cow back if he gets to keep me in exchange? Mind you it is very tempting offer”
The next day she got up and called for her faithful dog. Together they went down to the river. “Well well” she couldn’t believe her eyes. In front of her was the best bridge that she had ever seen! I told you that I would build you a bridge” said the Devil appearing from nowhere.
“Now it’s your turn to keep your side of the bargain”.
I know, you get to keep the first living thing to cross the bridge” and she started to walk towards the bridge. But just when she got to the entrance, she stopped, took out a loaf of bread from her apron pocket and hurled it across the bridge. As quick as a flash and before the Devil could stop it, the dog chased after it. ‘Aaaaaaagh!!!!!” screeched the Devil. “You stupid old woman, I don’t believe it! Your smelly, hairy farm dog has become the first living thing to cross my bridge. It’s no good to me” he screamed and then he vanished.
Well, the Devil was never seen in Wales again as he was so embarrassed at being outwitted by the old lady. High in the mountains near Aberystwyth, there is a village where a very old bridge crosses a deep gorge. Above it are two other bridges built at later dates. But the lowest one….Well, they say that the Devil himself built it!
