From our fall ride a week ago.
In 1885 Bohemian immigrants founded Saint John Nepomucene Catholic Church, named for the patron saint of Czechoslovakia. The settlers, most of whom emigrated from Prague, named their community Praga. This Gothic Revival church was built as a frame structure in 1890; the steeple and bell were added in 1893. In 1926 the church was clad in fieldstone. The altar and some statues date from 1894. Since its founding, Saint John Church has been served by neighboring priests.

Finally managed to get into this part of the red zone to get a few shots of the Catholic cathedral. This damage was done mainly in the 6.3 quake on Feb 22nd... more damage has apparently occured in the latest 6.3 as well but this was shot a few days before that happened.
The two front towers have collapsed and gone and that front wall on the left is held up by a bit of kiwi inginuity - shipping containers and hay bales.
To the right of the shot out of frame there is a carpark full of blocks and stone from the collapsed cathedral each layed out seperately and numbered - there being saved to possibly rebuild in the exact way once the quakes finally stop.... if they ever do... (they are doing the same to the Anglican cathedral in Christchurch's Center
The latest Quake has damaged it a lot more and it might now be never rebuilt, on this ground anyway....
Just as an interesting fact. The still standing tower at the back had a statue of the virgin mary facing inwards in the front window, during the feb 22nd quake the statue turned an exact 180degrees to face outwards - looking through the window - without falling over or being damaged.
The road im standing on - Barbadoes St - has been identified as having a Fault Line directly underneath - previously unknown. There are now 3 Major active faults under Christchurch.....

St. Mary's Catholic Church - Our Lady of Czestochowa, Queen of Poland (1936) in Wilno, Ontario, Canada.
Wilno is the first and oldest Polish settlement in Canada. The original settlers in this area, circa 1858, were from the Kaszuby region Kashubian from the then Prussian area of Poland. They constitute an integral part of what has been called the Kashubian diaspora.
One of the reasons they chose this area to settle was because of the landscape which reminded them of their original homes.
This church comprises the oldest Polish Parish in Canada, founded in 1875.
The present day church was built in 1936, after the first church, known as St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, built in 1875, was destroyed by fire.
It is part of the Diocese of Pembroke, under the Pastoral Care of the Oblate Fathers, and holds regular services ministered in English and Polish.

Misión San José del Cabo is a twin spire Jesuit mission church founded in 1730 and built in 1840 on the corners of Hidalgo and Zaragoza streets in San Jose del Cabo Mexico. San José del Cabo is a colonial town with the flavor and colors of Old México located in southern Baja California Sur state twenty miles northeast of Cabo San Lucas. San Jose was the southernmost of the Jesuit missions established during the colonial period in the Baja Californias. Print Size 13x19 inches.
Santi Bartolomeo e Gaetano is a Renaissance style, Roman Catholic church in central Bologna; it is located near the Two Towers, adjacent to the Strada Maggiore.
A church at the site dedicated to St Bartholemew had existed since the 5th century; it was likely built atop an even older church and housed Benedictine monks till the 16th century. The church was designed by Giovanni Battista Falcetti with elaboration by Agostino Barelli, and owes the awkward facade due to its construction in 1517 at the site of a palace begun by Andrea da Formigine, commissioned by a member of the Gozzadini. The project, which is seen in the single-story portico along the exterior, was interrupted after the death of the patron, soon after completion of what became the side portico.

Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception
This famous church and landmark in northeast Washington, D.C. is adjacent to the campus of Catholic University.
When construction began on the present Cologne Cathedral in 1248 with foundation stone, the site had already been occupied by several previous structures. The earliest may have been for grain storage, and possibly was succeeded by a Roman temple built by Mercurius Augustus. From the 4th century on, however, the site was occupied by Christian buildings, including a square edifice known as the "oldest cathedral" that was commissioned by Maternus, the first bishop of Cologne. A free-standing baptistery dating back to the 7th century was located at the east end of the present cathedral but was demolished in the 9th century to build the second cathedral. During excavations of the present cathedral, graves were discovered in the location of the oldest portion of the building; including that of a boy that was richly adorned with grave goods and another of a woman, popularly thought to be Wisigard. Both graves are thought to be from the 6th century. Only ruins of the baptistery and the octagonal baptismal font remain today.[citation needed] The second church, called the "Old Cathedral", was completed in 818. It was destroyed by fire on 30 April 1248, during demolition work to prepare for a new cathedral. Myths state that Kris Kringle [Santa Claus] would take the naughty kids to the cathedral were he would punish them severely. He would drop them off of the South Tower if they resisted. You can even visit that South Tower today when visiting Cologne, Germany.

This is the church where I was married. I was in the Army then, over 44 years ago. Both my wife and I were Catholic, so the Army gave permission to have our wedding in her church. It is still a pretty little church, 44 years later.
Im not a belever, but i can make pictures of it.
It´s just a building like most other.
Man made with walls,windows and a roof. But with a much cooler decoration and paintings. Stuffed with fools gold.
But i´m just a man on a mission to make a good photo, not to tell you what to beleve in.
The church is Háteigskirka and is located in ReykjavÃk Iceland.
