The processor arrived today. It is an E4800 C0 stepping, manufactured during the 2nd week of April.

Small arrows embossed on the side of the CPU fan (1) indicate the direction the blades will turn and the direction air will flow. (They are on the side of the fan and are hence not visible here.) For proper cooling, air should be pushed over the fins of the CPU cooler. Since beyond that is a system fan pulling air, this makes for the perfect airflow, straight through from the front to the back of the case.

 

The fan is held in place with two metal attachment frames(3, 4), which seem flimsy but do the job. I will say I found them very fiddly to get into place.

 

Note that there is barely any clearance over the first RAM slot (2). The frames do allow one to budge up the fan slightly so it is not literally touching the RAM, as I judged this a bad idea.

 

This is a screen shot from Bioshock running on my pc. I just upgraded from a 5200 Ultra to a HD 3850 AGP video card. I was running at full details at 1024x768. This is a lot better than before since I couldn't even run the game! I was getting between 15-30 frames depending on the action even though the shots show 8 to 25. This is due to fraps taking some processing power which slows things dow a bit.

The board ships like this, with the socket protector locked in place. Beneath the protector are 1,366 delicate pins.
