The original new synagogue was builtin 1886 in what was then the pre-dominantly Jewish part of Berlin. and was Germany's largest synagogue at the time. It was destroyed in WW2 but re-built once the wall came down in 1989.

This is a custom master bedroom unit.

Dimensions are aprox. 9' 6" wide by 7' 4" high by 18"- 19 1/2" deep.

Materials - Maple with glazed white lacquer finish.

It's one of my favourite buildings in Newcastle upon Tyne. This is Emerson Chambers, which was built in 1903. This is, in my opinion, how buildings should still be constructed.

A thunderstorm cell quickly rolls through the canyon in the afternoon, dropping torrents of rain and throwing lightning.

My technique for catching lightning was brute force: with as long an exposure as I could manage, I set the camera’s builtin intervalometer to take 50 photos back to back, sometimes reframing between runs. I caught three lightning bolts that afternoon, including the one shown here.

Of course this shot is actually very easy to get, once you have in

your hand a bulb with liquid inside. To fill the bulb you need to

drill a small hole in the thread base of the bulb until yo cross the

glass inside there. After that you just will need a needle and a

liquid to use.

I stuck an accessory brightline viewfinder on this camera and it makes a huge difference in framing compared to the builtin viewfinder.

I'm also realizing the f/2 Retina-Xenon lens on this camera is really only ever sharp right in the center unless stopped way down. I wonder if that's just how they are or if something is shimmed wrong or something. I can only find a couple of exposures I've made with this camera that have sharp corners.

Since I still don't have a fancy flash like the Canon 580ex II, I used a small mirror hand held against the builtin flash to bounce the light vertically off the top ceiling.

The results of that photoshoot were AMAZING!

Sometimes small ideas can save you tons of money, eh?

This was taken with my OM-1 Mark II camera. This was hand-held at .6 seconds and no filter (the camera has a builtin live ND filter. It makes it so nice to just bring a camera - no filters, tripod, remote, etc. This. camera has a super in-body stabilization - I've tried shutters. at up to 1 3/4 seconds maintaining sharpness!

This is lit with a Nikon SB900 in a small (9x13 soft box) on a light stand to camera right, raised to the height that the dancers were reaching. Triggered via the CLS system and the builtin flash on the D700, but no contribution from that flash.

The Silver City Comet commenced operations between Broken Hill and Parkes on the 27th of September 1937. It was the first fully air-conditioned disel powered train in the British Empire. It was donated to the Sulphide Street Railway & Historical Museum by New South Wales State Rail Authority in 1989 after completing 52 years of service. Power van DP 101 was the first of five builtin gthe New South Wales raukway workshoips at Eveleigh in 1937. Richie Bros. of Auburn, New South Wales, built twelve air-conditioned passenger cars of which three are preserved at the museum.

As built in 1937, the power van was fitted with two Harland and Wolf, 8-cylinder disel engines of 24 kW at 1200 revs. Power was transmitted through a Voith Sinclair turbo transmission, step-up gearbox, and final drive on the inner axle of each bogie, giving a top speed of 130kph. Two National diesel generato sets provided for auxiliary power, train lighting, and an electric kitchen.

The power vans were refitted in the early 1950s with four GM -110 diesel engines of 186 kW, giving a total of 744 kW for traction. These were arranged in two bank of two, driving a GM torque converter through a step-up gearbox and original final drive. Auxiliary power i supplied by tow standard Waygood GM generator sets of 50 kW at 120 volts.

The Silver City Comet was relocated to the Sulphide Street Railway & Historical Museum on the 6th and 7th of October 1990. Gary and Steven Radford continued their valuable support to the museum by completing the enormous task of moving the Comet from New South Wales Railways in Crystal Street to the musuem where many local volunteers prepared it for its final resting place.

The Sulphide Street Railway & Historical Museum:

The Sulphide Street Railway Station was erected in 1905 by the Silverton Tramway Company as its passenger terminus. The company operated a 56km narrow-gauge railway between Broken Hill and Cockburn, South Australia, via Silverton.

From 1888 until closure in 1970, the railway carried 13 million passengers and 43 million tonnes of ore concentrate, and was the most successful and richest private railway in Australia. As it was privately owned, the term railway could not be used legally and hence it was registered as a tramway.

The building was erected using stone from the Block 10 Mine. Most of the original internal detailing survives, including pressed metal ceilings, marble mantle pieces, and tile floors.

Broken Hill was linked with Sydney by rail in 1927 but, until the standard gauge link with South Australia was completed in 1969, passengers had to cross from Crystal Street to this station to continue their journey westwards. This building has been used as a railway museum since 1981.

Chromos Tower's top floors are almost reaching the low clouds. Almost, they're at less than 60 meters (less than 200 ft), only, not really that high up. The tower was constructed in 1989, it was originally the main headquarters of Chromos chemical corporation, after which it was named.

stored inside my storm-damaged, built in (used to be a window, with a backyard view - about 40 years ago!) is my largest Laguna, but you will have to wait to see a good photograph of it (and the best slab a friend had already cut off the face - unfortunately!)

When I saw this trailer loaded with all sorts of items I imagined someone was going on an elaborate campout. There was a VW bug, some motorcycles, a wagon wheel and a huge barbeque grill, among other things. It turns out this was one of four vehicles, plus additional trailers when a man's friends helped him move from one part of California to another. When I asked if they minded if I took photos, they simply laughed. Here, one man is working on fixing a tie-down.

I gathered too many droplet shots when in a recent time I was very motivated experimenting with this type of highspeed photography.

I don't want to drop this same kind of photos to my stream from time to time, so I decided to throw all out at once.

This was about 7.20 this morning. In clear, dry weather this is often the prettiest part of the day (in my opinion).

This is looking across the river (Water of Leith). Almost all the buildings are modern.

In the middle there is a gable end - that was originally a bonded warehouse, now used for offices and shops.

There is a small builtin to the right of the trees, which was the terminal/waiting room for the ferry to Aberdeen. It is now a pub with a huge selection of whisky, called Teuchters, which is an old slang word for people from the north. (not complimentary). The business is owned by 2 men from Aberdeen, so it's meant as a joke.
