A streetscape of 10th Avenue,shot from the Highline park in Manhattan.The linear park is on top of an old,elevated historic freight railway that was called the West Side Line that began operation in the 1934 up until the 1980.The trains on the railway ran through the center of city blocks rather than over the avenues.Meatpacking goods were delivered inside warehouses and factories that were directly connected to the railway.In 1847,before the elevated railway was built freight trains used to run through 10th Avenue,but that caused many accidents between the trains and street traffic so much that the avenue was called"Death Avenue". Freight trains ran through 105 street-level crossings at the time- Wikipedia
