Antes de sair de casa, qual eh a primeira coisa que voce pensa? "To levando o celular, carteira, identidade, cartao de credito, oculos de sol e... a chave". Nao aqui. Aqui a ultima preocupacao eh a chave. Tambem fica dificil de perder o dedo, que vem a calhar de vez em quando.

Tudo que voce tem que fazer eh apertar aquele botao ali e ai uma luz vermelha pisca. Voce coloca o indicador direito e espera um pouquinho: um bip-bip seguido de uma luz azul deixa a macaneta aberta por 5 segundos. (Eh bem rapido mesmo). Se nao conseguir ser rapido, eh so colocar o dedo de novo.

Quando ta frio tende a dar problemas, porque meio que perde a sensibilidade. O Ed, claro, me contou o segredo de dar um sopro com bafo quente e ai sim colocar o dedo. Eh tiro e queda.

Close up of the cam, the material stop and the shearing blade. In use, with cam in retracted position, the material to be cut is slid through the two aligned slots and bumps against the stop which sets length within 0.001 inch. Retracting the cam lever doesn't bring the moving blade back up so this is aided by a spring.

My thought was to make a new cam from tool steel that wasn't already heat treated and tap some holes in it to mount a chain sprocket. Rich said why bother and instead suggested drilling an off center hole in a sprocket that had a collar the same diameter as the cam. So I did and here it is! It won't last the test of time but it's an elegant way to get proof of concept. I restrained a length of chain with another spring and wrapped the free end over the sprocket. The plan is to pull the chain down with a spring return pull-type air cylinder. Stroke length is less than 3 inches which is well within the range of off the shelf components.

The entire brewing process is automated with valves like this, remotely controlled.
