La chevêche d'Athéna (Athene noctua) mesure 22 cm de haut pour une envergure comprise entre 54 et 58 cm, et un poids variant entre 180 et 220 g. Elle est surtout active le crépuscule et la nuit mais peut chasser à l’aube et être visible parfois en plein jour. Elle mange des campagnols, mulots, musaraignes, vers de terre, insectes, oiseaux... Elle est en déclin prononcé en Europe, et strictement protégée.
