Visit any of the villages or isolated buildings within the Chatsworth estate and you might begin to notice a common theme… they are all painted the same colour. The Devonshire Arms at Pilsley where we stayed was no exception, nor the local Post Office.

It’s taken a little bit of interneting, but I’ve found the background story to the colour. The paint is supplied by Michiel Brouns - a specialist in linseed paint and glazing for buildings of national and historical significance. He is also the founder and owner of Histoglass and Brouns & Co.

When the Chatsworth Estate approached Brouns & Co six summers ago, they faced several challenges.

The seat of the Duke of Devonshire, Chatsworth House – often chosen as Britain’s favourite stately home – sits within 12,000 acres of gardens, parkland and farmland. It is not just the Duke of Devonshire who calls Chatsworth home, within the estate are 150 cottages and other dwellings. Chatsworth Estate wanted to find a linseed paint supplier that could colour-match its signature ‘Chatsworth Blue’ used on buildings across the estate. The blue paint provided by their previous supplier had always lost its colour and turned grey over time, meaning that it had to be regularly reapplied. The paint didn’t just have to be the correct colour, it had to be environmentally friendly and long-lasting too.

Brouns & Co made sure that it was made using the highest possible quality pigments which don’t bleach in sunlight.

Its paint is now used in all maintenance across the estate and the partnership has delivered many benefits according to Malcolm Hulland, Buildings Contracts Manager at Chatsworth Estate. “Brouns & Co linseed paint is tremendously easy to use and very cost effective; it reduces our maintenance cycle, application time in labour and cost in joinery repairs,” he said.

Michiel Brouns, managing director of Brouns & Co, said that linseed paint has a long history and its many benefits are being appreciated again today.

“We always say that linseed oil paint will transform the way you paint. It lasts pretty much forever without needing to be reapplied, and doesn’t flake or peel. It’s environmentally friendly, doesn’t have a strong smell, dries in 24 hours, and is extremely cost-effective. It doesn’t even need primers or undercoats. Plus, it comes in a rich palette of beautiful colours.”

In Sweden, Denmark and many other parts of Europe, there’s a long tradition of painting the interiors and exteriors of buildings with linseed oil paint. Original coats of linseed paint have survived perfectly well on houses which are well over 500 years old.

Michiel Brouns, who is the UK’s leading expert on the use of linseed paint for historic and timber buildings, said: “Linseed oil paint can be applied to any surface, including wood, masonry, plaster and metal. It’s especially popular for exteriors because it’s so durable and strong, and doesn’t need reapplying after a few years.

“Linseed oil paint really does protect against all weathers: once painted, wood won’t rot, iron won’t rust, and plaster won’t crumble. It has fantastic wicking properties, permitting evaporation of moisture instead of trapping it under an impermeable film which you get with a standard petrochemical paint.”

Michiel said that there is a common misconception that linseed paint is expensive.

“Far from it. Not only is a tin of linseed paint fairly inexpensive, especially compared to some of the heritage paint brands in the UK, but it’s a thin paint, so you’ll cover anything from 15 to 22 square metres per litre, depending on the material you’re painting. “We don’t know of any other paint which offers such cost-effective coverage. There’s less waste, because the same tin of paint will paint any surface – and on top of all that, you don’t need to repaint every few years!”

He added: “It has been great to see the benefits of using our paint on the Chatsworth Estate. The time that they don’t have to spend on constant repairs they can put into more productive things – like their own range of furniture made on the estate!”

Bodyfy is bimontly event (april, june, august, october, december) that regroup designers of different background that will present their creations in one location. The general theme is connected to everything that touches the skin (skin, tattoo, makeup , scarification , henna , piercing , jewelry, body part, mesh head and more.) The style is industrial, alternative, grunge or other similar style. Clothes are not allowed at this event.

Jedi Master Evensan, along with Master Secura, have been transported to the planet Felucia in order to stop a Separatist plot to capture the surface for a staging ground.

Myself and my battalion have been tasked with surveillance of the edge of the Republic's landing zone. Master Evensan, though this bores him, has volunteered to join us for the company.

So far all is quiet, but vigilance is required. The Separatists could attack at any moment...

CC - 7131: "General! Droids spotted in sector 4!"

The Jedi's lightsaber blades ignited, with a glow of blue illuminating the platform beneath his feet.

CC - 7131 and his men began firing at the droids, unaware that another squadron of B1 droids had already reached the bottom of the platform the clones were standing on. They began scaling the supports of the platform, unknown to the clone troopers.

The first droids made their way onto the platform, surprising a few troopers, which killed them in the process.

CC - 7131: "Droids on the platform! Squad, tighten formation!"

The clones formed up, taking out the droids on the platform as they did so. One trooper threw thermal detonators into the midst of the droids attacking the platform on foot, creating a blast of flame and metal body parts. With the droids on the ground handled, Master Evansan directed his attention to the droids on the platform, finishing them off with the help of his men.

CC - 7131: "Enemy neutralized, General Evansan."

Evansan: "Indeed, though I sense our battle is not yet over. There is a great darkness approaching, I can feel it in the Force. There are dark times ahead of us all."

CC - 7131: "Whatever it is, sir, we can handle it...together."

Evansan put a hand on his captain's shoulder.

Evansan: "I know we can, Ray. You've never let me down. I'm going to go report our status to Master Secura."

CC - 7131 (Ray): "Very good, sir."

As Evansan began to walk away, Ray's holoprojector beeped, signaling an incoming transmission. Ray took the 'projector off his belt, and turned it on to receive the message. He was surprised to see Chancellor Palpatine appear in hologram form before him.

Palpatine: "Captain Ray. It is finally time. Execute Order 66 immediately. Ever Jedi is a traitor to the Republic, and must die."

Good soldiers follow orders, Ray heard him say in his head.

CC - 7131 (Ray): "Yes, my Lord. It will be done."

And so it was. Captain Ray of the Grand Army of the Republic turned his weapon on Jedi Master Evansan, and pulled the trigger.

Hello there! This is my "application" build to join the Dark Times group. I've been wanting to build a little Order 66 vignette for a while, so this was a perfect opportunity once I heard about this awesome group of builders.

I chose to do Felucia, which I don't think is done too often. I tried to make it very different from other Felucia MOC's. Usually there is a ton of more growth, but I decided to thin it out a bit, as if the Republic recently built their little outpost.

My submission to an official LEGO contest to showcase music, futurism, and celebrations – thus, this creation encompasses all three. The Moon Rocks are a far-out cosmic rock band with a hypersonic sound totally out of this world!

This is based off a concept I tinkered with in 2015-2016 which featured a fictional LEGO rock band comprised of astronauts, known as The Highway Stars. Only unlike my previous build which depicted the spaceman band traveling in a flying rocket convertible car, this particular new concept features the band performing on a lunar base.

The ground begins with dark grey bricks to give the rocky appearance, which then has a simple structure of light grey to mimic the look of a space station, and uses numerous pipes and tubes for design effect. On the stage you can see the five members, each wearing outfits reminiscent of classic Space minifigures. The audience is a mix of various spacemen from different eras – including M-Tron, Blacktron, Space Police, Uitron, and even a bunch of Mars Mission green aliens. I started working on this in March 2022 and quickly finished the whole project by the beginning of April.

The stage was originally intended to be designed to resemble a giant boombox with cassette player, but instead I utilized the back wall to have a huge JumboTron screen! There weren't many engineering obstacles since the actual base is rather straightforward, but instead the major challenges were obtaining enough 1x1 plates of the proper colors to make the mosaics. The planet earth mosaic was difficult to map out in Photoshop due to my limitations with blue pieces, and I had to use pinks and lavenders instead.

Smoke, so often associated with trains starting up or accelerating—behind both steam and diesel—can

also swirl around a brake application. Here, British Columbia Railway (BCR) train 26, a southbound laden with wood chips and other forest products, complains its way down toward Lillooet, BC, Canada, near BCR milepost 172, on June 3, 1987.

Judges’ Comments:

This stunning image is a photo that anyone who has spent time trackside in mountainous territory can relate to and conjures up the sights, sounds, and smells of this straining train. Stunning backlighting highlights the swirls of brake shoe smoke as a train works down a steep and twisting grade. A non-traditional view, this scene conveys the drama and danger of mountain railroading through its capture of brake smoke.
