walking home at dusk

This photo is similar to one of my recent post. The settings are slightly different. The detail of the milky way was better. The sea creature has been harpooned as it swims away. Those were my first thought as I was working on this picture.

Got caught in a rainstorm yesterday, and took shelter for a while in the woods. I think the little (blurry!) insect was doing the same thing.

Things change from time to time but they are always beautiful .

I’ve had a lifelong affinity for roads, streets, avenues—whatever—for walking, running, cycling, driving, anything connected with the idea of a “way.”

Perhaps it’s because my father, who practiced judo (柔道, literally “the gentle way”), named me Kazumichi (一道), meaning “one way.” I’ve always lived with the character 道 before my eyes.

Leaves are quickly changing in the area. Unfortunately, it has been extremely dry for the last few months(5"-6" below normal) and I'm afraid autumn may be more brown than anything. There is some color in the tops of the mountains, but peak will probably be another week. This photo was taken on Pine Mountain near Pineville, Kentucky yesterday.

I had one last lookout tower to cross off the list inside Mount Rainier National Park, Gobbler's Knob. I opted to come from Glacier Vista rather than the boring West Side Road and I was right, the views were constant and amazing. Continuing past the tower to reach the Marine Memorial I came across this scene, it just appears for a moment and then it's gone as you sharply descend from here, but what a moment. Zoom in and check out the log bridge ahead, I've not seen one sag like that. It held though. :-)

A few weeks ago, Tom & I were able to get away for a quick trip to Colorado just in time to catch some of the fall color. It had been some time since we were able to venture out, so we were quite excited. We had a few things on our "to do" list that didn't involve photography, but rest assured we incorporated some photographic adventures along the way.

We tried to "just wing" the trip regarding photography ... hoping to capture the fall colors, which made an early arrival this autumn. One of the areas that we wanted to explore was the San Juan Mountains. This image was simply taken along the road ... to what was roughly "destination TBD". It could not have been a more beautiful day ... nice and cool for us to be refreshed, sunny day that still offered a bit of clouds along the way, and gorgeous scenery such as this the entire way. It was just breathtaking. Just what my soul desperately needed after a summer full of challenges.

While enjoying Colorado, we found the time to meet up with some friends along the way, explore new areas, and go 4-wheeling on some of the roads less traveled (big shout out to Rick Louie Photography for that amazing adventure). Of course, it wouldn't be 2016 without some more challenges along the way in the form of an unexpected Cat 4 hurricane taking sights on south Florida (i.e. my coastal home). After the initial panic mode that ensued, we actually got a bonus side trip to Rocky Mountain NP out of it, just in time for the elk rut season, so I certainly couldn't complain. Life is good.

Thanks so much for stopping by to view. I hope that everyone is having a fantastic weekend. South Florida is actually having a cold front right now ... it's a brisk low 60's outside. LOL Joking aside, it does feel amazing!

Beautiful nights in the wilderness of Alaska. Taken along the Parks highway at a rest stop. The red light in the middle of the line of trees is the setting moon. Right before it set the moon turned a rusty red color. Almost like the blood moon we had a few months ago. Of course to the right of this picture are the Northern lights.
