I have undertaken task #9 of the 100 iPhoneography Missions Look for odd combinations of elements.
Iron and carbon come together to make a useful writing implement which, unlike so many pens, can be made to work quite easily :)
And what a charming book this is: The Pencil by Henry Petroski.
Yes, I photographed a wedding at 9 months pregnant (36.5 weeks)! Here's a cute picture my husband grabbed of me holding all my gear as we headed over to do family portraits after the couple's ceremony. Yes, I am a trooper!!!

This was the 07-08 LNER service Leeds to Aberdeen.
The power car got into serious difficulties in the Berwick area and lost all power soon after. The rear power car was left to do all the work pushing the train to Edinburgh.
The set was terminated at Edinburgh and then was taken the short journey to Craigentinny depot soon after I took this .
All LNER drivers have received an operational update regarding the minor differences with this former WR power car on temporary hire to the company.
9/11 Flag Memorial taken in Echo Lake Park, NJ

On Wednesday, I visited the 9/11 Memorial. Being there felt so sad, so weird, so unable to be put into words. It's so hard to describe the feeling as you stand in front of the waterfalls in the tower footprints. Standing in front of them for the first time took my breath away and gave me goosebumps.
I watched many of those who lost someone make a rubbing of that person's name on a strip of paper using crayons. I think for many, this is so very important. It's the first *thing* that they've been able to hold and take with them, and sort of connect them to what happened that day. It's an entire lifetime of memories of that person etched in letters. Something that they can keep forever.

we have lived in this house for more than 5 years and only today did i slow down enough for a short soak in the tub, complete with candles and a jelly jar of wine. a cool breeze was floating in the windows and the crescent moon was showing itself through the trees. it will soon be the weekend.....
operation put your stuff away is going well.... for day one. i am grateful!

i talked with kevin (stranger #9) for so long that i could write a book about him. kevin is originally from connecticut but has been all over the world. he has lived in new york, baltimore, california, thailand, and germany. he is back in baltimore (fells point) staying in a friend's row house for free.
kevin is a sculptor but has never considered that his career. he sculpts human figures using a variety of materials including animal skulls. he finishes each sculpture with bronze. kevin has sold some of his art work but usually gives them to friends or trades them for things that he needs.
kevin spent most of his adult years working at harbors, and later he worked at a facility for juvenile delinquents. his first wife was a well known artist in california and she was a spokesperson for the national organization for women. he didn't speak of any other relationships but did tell me that he has two sons. his first son is a teacher at an art school in baltimore and his youngest is a hippie in brooklyn.
i developed a closer relationship with kevin than my previous strangers. he invited me in his home to see his sculptures and we sat out on the stoop looking at pictures of his trips to thailand. it was wonderful listening to his stories. i hope to meet him again:)
